The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011)

Dragging out what should be a quick ending.

I like twilight. i wouldn't say i LOVE it, but i found the books to be amusing, warm and a good time waster. The movies seem to be more about capitalising on funds rather than delivering a decent plot.

i've never been a fan of Kristin Stewart (insipid droning teenager that she is in all of the movieS) but she actually appears to present somewhat of a decent acting skill in this movie, whereas cold, boring edward (who in the books was a heart-throb) is just as terribly pathetic as he was in the previous movies. The man that has stolen the show, taylor lautner, since he took his shirt off in the second movie was pushed into the background a little bit in this movie, which i think was the worst thing they could have done. but, in the same token, they had to do as its a love story between edward and bella, not bella and jacob. I'm just a little disappointed by the way they've dragged this on. but i was disappointed by the books towards the end too.

We took our whole office at the penrith professionals and there were mixed reviews. The oldies hated it, the middle agers (who knew the basic plot line of the movie) found it a nice romance but fairly boring and the young girls loved it for the sheer fact it was twilight.

I wouldn't see it again, thats for sure.

The Pillars of the Earth (2010)

not as good as the book

Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett is my favorite novel of all time. It is a rich textured story that spans generations; a classic tale of the sins of the father. It is epic in every sense and to my horror someone dared to make a mini series. Credit for the sheer audacity to assume a tale of this scale could be tackled and I truly believe a mini series was the best format but alas they still managed to edit the essence right out of it and changed the whole tone in the process. For those who truly love the book the fact they changed the character of Albert from a pathetic mean bully to someone whom you are meant to feel sorry for, is just wrong! The grotesque hideous face of William's mother is portrayed as a mere birthmark; I mean really the women was meant to frighten children and warlords alike. Overall, I knew buying the DVD set that I would most likely be disappointed but I kind of hoped but all I can say is I hope Mr Follett made some serious money because they did not do him justice!

Green Lantern (2011)

last Friday night my husband and i went to the movies to see green lantern. i must say Ryan Reynolds does look rather good in tight green skin! it was a typical super hero movie with the reluctant hero and the super Bad Dude who was once a good guy but it was entertaining. my husband is more the DC and Marvel man and he still thought it was good, though for die-hard comic book fans apparently Ryan plays Hal Jordan a bit too light hearted; the character was more serious in previous renditions.

it was in my opinion still a bit dark in places for younger kids, and my ten year old will be waiting a couple of years yet before he gets to see it. all in all, an enjoyable night out and the verdict is split if Blake Lively was any good. I would say average at best but with a super thin figure. Enjoy.

Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011)

I took the kids to Kung Fu Panda 2 during the holidays and they loved it. We are not fans of 3D but I would have to say the water droplets looked amazing! the kids loved the storyline and both of them found it easy to follow and funny (one is 5, and the other is 9). Both of them came out of the movie and raved, and surprisingly i found it (almost) as enjoyable as they did!

Quote of the movie would have to be from Mantis; "I never had daddy issues but thats probably because mum ate his head off before I was born"...Well I thought it was funny!!

SPOILERS BELOW.

Well it's over, Harry Potter beat the bad guy, won the girl and then inflicted a horrible name on his second son; Albus Severus Potter. I mean as respectful and meaningful as it was, yuk!! I am a fan, loved the books, loved the movies and I was happy enough with the finale. What a wonderful part of history to have been a part of, the story bought kids back to reading and was the inspiration of some purely marvelous characters; I love Severus Snape, played by Alan Rickman (always a sucker for a bad boy with a good heart)!! Cars 2 The sequel to Pixar's success movie about one car's journey to achieve his dreams follows the same premise; however it's Mater turn in the fast lane, this time. When Lightning McQueen brings his best friend along to a world cup racing championship, based in Tokyo, Mater finds himself caught up in serious matters concerning spy cars and terrorism on an international level. What turns out to be a series of potentially deadly situations throws Mater into a fast-paced world of secrecy, gadgets, guns, disguises and heroics. It's James Bond meets the original Cars, in this film packed with racing, romance and rendezvous. A fun flick for the whole family to enjoy!
