One of my favourite episodes of the entire series. What a back story. It doesn't excuse the heinous things Neegan has done but it was great to understand how he became the monster that led the saviours. So well done. Stunning performance from Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I cried. I really hope Neegan's character development continues towards redemption, but with this show you never know who is gonna end up dead!

I really enjoyed this but it could be because I've read the book so I'm enjoying seeing elements of Clarice's backstory that there wasn't time for the films to explore. However, I do agree with one of the other review that say the show is too centralised on the protagonist. There are some other really interesting characters in this show and it would be great for them and the subplots to be more fleshed out.

Warning: Spoilers
I never saw this film when it came out. I just watched it for the first time. It is really unsettling how similar it is to our current pandemic. Even down to the dangers of conspiracy theorists and anti vaxxers. It was obviously really well researched when it was made as expressions such as "R number" and "social distancing" which have only recently become things most of us are aware of. The whole bat thing is actually creepily prophetic.

Enjoyable crap

The show has deteriorated significantly over the years but you know what I don't care! I'm committed now, I cling to the fact that it's vaguely Lynchian (or was at the beginning). I'm 28, but what can I say the teenage girl I was still loves this crap.
Mixed feelings

While I am glad that the show is addressing the issues of police brutality, systemic racism and intersections of oppression, I fear that it is also harmful. The narrative suggests that it is a indeed a "few rotten apples" within the police rather than the institution itself that is the driving force of police brutality (particularly against BIPOC). I mean maybe I shouldn't watch a police show when I believe in defunding rather than reforming, but I am interested in how fiction relates to reality (and how our view of reality is influenced by fiction).

The chaos of active addiction
7 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The portrayal of active addiction/alcoholism in this show is so great. The denial that life is fabulous and glamorous with the reality of being totally chaotic and life threatening, underpinned by repressed childhood trauma. While I enjoyed the conspiracy storyline in and of itself, I felt that as a metaphor for addiction it worked really well. Honestly I was so moved when she had her chip at the end. It works if you work it.

Ok so if this was a separate show I'd have enjoyed it more - I am normally pretty juvenile and enjoy toilet humour. However, the first season was so brilliant, an amalgamation of A Life Less Ordinary and The Good Place. What the fork happened here?

Breathtaking

An absolutely incredible film. Visually stunning and the most wonderful, delicate love story. It is has mastered the art of showing and not telling. The theme of surveillance is executed exquisitely through plot, framing and script. It is a privilege to see femininity being celebrated in its most pure and authentic form: without the shackles of the male gaze. The acting is impeccable, cinematography and costume flawless, brilliant use of sound/music. I was utterly moved. Truly one of the best films I've ever seen.

If you like the original and aren't conservative / republican trash you'll enjoy this. It's highly watchable, dramatic and campy first response (what else would you expect from Murphy and Falchuk?) I'm sure that there are all sorts of inaccuracies regarding procedure but it's enjoyable. If you can't handle a diverse cast and rate a show badly because of it that says a lot more about you than the show.

Thought provoking

This show is really gripping and thought provoking. Some fantastic performances from the lead cast members and extremely thought provoking. Many people have complained about the ending but I think it is painfully truthful regarding the current political and racial climate in the US justice system; as for unanswered questions, I like it when a show does not spell everything out for the audience and leaves us thinking about things because that is what life is like. It's refreshing to not have the nuances of the plot patronisingly spelled out to the viewer. Furthermore, the show is really effective at shining a light on both the prejudices against African Americans and society's dismissal or addicts. It is a truly heartbreaking story that left me frustrated, angry and tearful, feelings that are so often evoked from the court cases and news stories of today.

This show is hilarious! I'm sure it's not for everyone but in my view it's a real loss for those who don't get it. All the characters remind me of people you come across in London, as do the crap Flats rented at horribly high prices, and the awkward and quirky humour is brilliant.
