Aswang (1994)
A Combination Film
This movie caught my eye on the shelf with it's impressive sounding reviews printed on the front. Words such as, "original", "gory", and, "shocking". As the movie plays on, these things turn out to be at least slightly true. Parts of the movie seem to be mildly reminiscent of, "Rosemary's Baby", "Friday the 13th", "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", and Lucio Fulci's "House by the Cemetery". Even if sometimes only in directing style. Plus much like Coscarelli's "Phantasm", things get just a little stranger continuously as it unfolds. I did have a good idea of what was coming next a lot of the time. HOWEVER, the minor details in between my kind of knowing what was going to happen made it worth waiting to see exactly how it would turn out. The special effects were good enough for a bizarre little tale of horror on film. People complain too much about that kind of thing in most instances. There is an in between area on the excellent to awful spectrum that this film fits into nicely in that department. Go ahead and check it out if you like to see something just that tiny un-explainably bit different than everything else. At least you already know it HAS to be better than "House of the Dead", right?
House of the Dead (2003)
Yawn
This movie i not worth seeing. At all. As a horror fan who has seen a ton of films, I can often find SOMETHING of value to like about a movie. Especially a zombie film. This piece of cinema however is just bad through and through.
Switchblade Sisters (1975)
Check it out- Tarantino Recommended
70's style soundtrack. 70's style gangs. 70's style hotties. Power struggles. Gun war in the streets. Chick gang knife fights. Comic style directing. Whips, chains, hideouts. Roller rinks and revenge. Did I mention 70's style hotties? Need I say more?
Death Game (1977)
I didn't know
Way back when I was renting videos for free I picked this one up. OOPS The things I wanted to mention outside the summary already given were these. 1: Someone who had a lot to do with making this movie had a strange and sick fascination for food, it was gross and unecessary. 2: There is some kind of a soundtrack in the background of the film that seems to be there the entire time and by the way I felt for days after viewing this trash I figure they had something subliminal going on in the track. Either that or it was just traumatisingly bad or both. Many times throughout the movie you can tell the writer and director did not have much experience or talent. And don't even ask about the acting.
