Elizabeth I (2005)
Long Live The Queen Miren!
I don't ever feel compelled to tell what films are about, and I have my own reasons that are very important to my audience having their own experience. Minus the expectations we hope. Helen Miren gave a magnificent performance of a lifetime in this film. Thats according to me, but who cares. She was outstanding in this role, believable, real, and she embodied this queen with heart and soul. I was prompted to buy the DVD and watch again. Even on my computer this film is good. There were things I had forgotten, and scenes I don't remember seeing. I was in awe the second time around. I love this film. I know thats not new about me, but I happen to choose my films wisely. Jeremy Iorns is just good in my book, and the young Essex was wonderful. There was a lot of true to life acting in this film in my observation of people, and studying the psychology of the human condition.
Watch this with time to relax, and enjoy it.
Cast Away (2000)
A Journey To Think On
I recently re-visited this film and watched it in detail to really watch this character's journey.
I found something new to enjoy each time. Hats off the William Broyles Jr. for doing the research that made a big difference in how the character of Chuck Nolan took shape, and the events in his life that changed it. Of course I love Robert Zemeckis directing. There are some moments not to miss in this film, so pay attention to what is being played out.
This is a journey that can take place in our lives without going where Chuck did for his.
I love this film. It is definitely a portrait of the human experience and a bottom line to take with you. What is the bottom line? Can you find one of your own?
A Good Year (2006)
Prepare A Light Meal To Have With it. Cheers!
This is a film that takes you on a journey peeking through, opening doors and windows of beauty, private hearts, thoughts, and lives. It captured my heart in the first act. The unfolding splendor in relationships and the heartbeat of France is engaging. Depending on who you are, you will love this film. I wish I had seen it on the larger screen. This is the kind of film that reminds us that everyone has a story worth telling, and that even if is "a day in a life" kind of story we all have one. One day of beauty, happiness, memories, and moments in our life that we want to share and to tell the world how happy we were on this day. It is worth the experience of a worldly heart living the truth of what is, and in the moment. Relax and enjoy!
Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007)
A must see for people who enjoy good film making
This is one of the first times I was compelled to see a film the first night out. I normally wait a while. I was excited about seeing this film as I enjoyed the first one with Cate Blanchet. My excitement was rewarded with excellent, beautiful cinematography, music, and superb acting. Kudos to Fiona Wier for her insightful casting in this film. The costumes are the most breathtaking I've seen in a long time.
I enjoyed the journey. I did find in the end that there maybe room for yet another part to this magnificent story of such a great Queen Mother. I hope yet that there is such an upcoming conclusion. Hat's off to good story telling, and not forgetting our humanness.
The Libertine (2004)
Depp is magnificent, the film is brilliant, and you don't want to miss a moment.
Johnny Depp has convinced me completely that he is a master at his craft. He loves this craft. He is a brilliant genius at bringing forward the characters he portrays. Depp's performance in "Libertine" is hands down a giant. I loved every moment. I have not stopped talking about this film. The true English language lives in this film. In this day and age where you wonder if your ever going to hear anything but slang and bad use of the English language it was very refreshing to watch every inch of this wonderfully delightful example of good movie making. The raw truth of what it was like then. I would love to see Depp in another long hair film after Captain Jack, another very funny character. Speaking of funny, "Libertine" for those folks who are really paying attention has some very funny moments if your listening to whats being said. If you do not like period films forget it, unless you like everything that Johnny Depp does. This film will win you over.
The Egyptian (1954)
This film is for those who can appreciate the small things that make the difference and show up in this film
I was on my way out one morning when I was checking something on the T.V. and came across this film. I don't ever remember seeing this or hearing of it. What a fun and interesting one to watch. Well, my meeting was pushed back, because I couldn't get out of this film. It had some real interesting things in it that marked it's time in history, and some fun things that they don't have people do in today's film because it's not pretty. Well, there was a lot of realism in it. The acting was good for a 1954 film. Subtle and genuine actions on the part of the characters that had me watching what they were going to do next. That is why I ended up watching it. I don't know why they don't show it more often. I would rather watch this than some films they play more than necessary. For history buffs, people who like period films, and those that are in the film appreciation groups will like this one. "The Egyptian" has a variety of flavors dealing with a lot of things to look at in human nature that has not changed since it's time. What does that say about us? Those that don't like movies that take their time to unfold and tell a good story....are not into film.
I haven't had the time to rent it if it is available, but if I get a chance to see it again, I would probably vote it a 10.
Superman Returns (2006)
I Love This Film
Okay, those who know me, know that I choose well for my own viewing pleasure, and I have only seen maybe two films I did not like that I went to see on my own. This one is on my top ten list. While I am very happy there was a dedication to Christopher Reeves and his wife at the end, this superman was a knock out for me. Something about this superman Brandon Routh, and the entire film was different in a good way. Not all remakes or sequels are that good. This was really a film made about a character we all know about, but with a different energy, and more along the lines of spirit. The spirit of who we all are. I felt really good after seeing this film, and I knew that when the DVD came out I would buy it. Nice job to all the people involved with making this film. It was a lot of work. The casting was great. Thanks for taking Superman's life to the next level. Brandon was born to play this role. Lets not typecast him though folks. He's got some good stuff in there to use.
The Invisible (2007)
A surprisingly good film, about an important topic
I am a film advocate, and no matter what anyone thinks this is an important film, a well done film, and the acting is better than I have seen in a long time from such young people. I am a hard pleaser, and predictor of endings. However, I never expected to be on the edge of my seat as I was with this film. I am glad that this film was done. It set my wheels spinning about the subject matter because it needs to be addressed. I love the title. Justin Chatwin is on his way to being a well known and well loved actor if he gets the right scripts, also if used in films that work for him. Same goes for his co-star Margarita Levieva. Wow, I forgot she was acting for a moment. I haven't had that experience since I saw "Libertine" watching Samantha Morton. Marcia Gay Harden, of course I love her in anything. She is just plain good, and this film is no exception. She is the epitome of the kind of parent this subject matter implies. My advice is to see this movie without any expectations, likes/dislikes, or beliefs of any kind. Just go with an open mind to observe what is taking place, and for heaven sake don't watch this film with your mind, watch it with your heart. Open it, and simply breath and meditate with your eyes open. If you do that, you'll understand. If not, well, it's okay. You'll miss a good story and you will miss an important point to be made in all the main characters. Look to see if you are, or have been one of these people. I won't tell you the story, I want you to see it. Don't wait for DVD. My hat is off to the writer, director and producer.
Bobby (2006)
This film is a must see..especially if one thinks that anything matters more than the heart of loving
When the film was over....you could hear a pin drop. The people that started to leave the theater were silent as if in Church. A dry eye there was not. As I watched the energy of the people in the theater I fought back my own out pouring of tears as I knew I would be a bloody mess if I really let it out. This movie is worth seeing no matter who you are, where you were born, what beliefs you have about anything or anyone. This is a film about being human. This film is about bringing peace, love, and a oneness inside that is a Soul experience in recognition of who we truly are. If you see this film, really see this film and take it in....you most definitely will be touched. If you are not touched by this incredibly done historic film...May God be with you.
My compliments to Emilio Estevez for such a very well done legacy. Not only was it an excellent use of great talent, it was well written. That doesn't even begin to describe what I saw. Not one necessary detail was overlooked. Having met Emilio years ago, I am not surprised at the amount of heartfelt energy that went into this film. It tells much of who he is as a person and as a film maker. I wish Emilio every blessing with this film and more. See you at the Oscars!
Spiritual Warriors (2007)
An engaging spiritual journey with memorable scenes
Spiritual Warriors is captivating, exciting, engaging, inspiring, and moving. It is a film that you will want to follow all the way through, and will not want to visit the lieu. One must see everything at least the first time through so you can receive the full impact of what this film offers. I found it thought provoking, and it left me feeling good all night after seeing it the first time. After the third screening I realized that each time I saw it was a different experience. Yet, it was always exciting. The sound, cinematography, special effects, costumes, acting are the best. It's real. I recommend it as many times as you can see it. I took guests that are still talking about it, and ready to see it again. It's got the big BUZZZZ. Ten Thumbs Up!!
The Last Samurai (2003)
Samurai Oscar
This film for me was a personal experience of my own spiritual journey as I watched it. I found it engaging on a lot of levels for me personally. While not everyone will have my experience, they at least would find it entertaining and moving. My encounter showed me empathy, some laughter, strength, goodness, power, and empowerment. It showed me the human condition, and integrity without the ego. Kudos to Tom Cruise, Edward Zwick and John Logan. I saw things in this film I have not seen done before and it is one of Tom's best dramatic performances. Thank you for this film. Thank you to everyone who worked on it because it was beautiful! See you at the Oscars wining.
