The Original Kings of Comedy (2000)
Where is Def Jam?
My only comment this time will have to be, that even though these stand up comedians are of a very high standard I've heard much better in episodes of Def Comedy Jam. The only other thing that bothered me was Cedric's performance because most of it was copied from an episode of Def Jam in which he was the host. rating: 6/10
Four Rooms (1995)
Simply a great film that is destined to be under-rated
This film is so diverse and comic at the same time that it makes it a great movie to watch especially for all the Tarantino and Rodriguez fans such as myself. Tim Roth is an amazing actor and his character: the always polite and funny and sometimes psychotic bellhop he plays is brilliant. Of course you must also admire the fantastic cast such as Madonna, Banderas, Bruce Willis, Tarantino, etc as a true masterpiece.
What is the most intriguing fact is the comments i've heard of this film as being a waste of time and a total disaster, can't truly be justified when you admire the coming together most of all of two demented, twisted but very imaginative minds such as the ones of Tarantino and Rodriguez in such an epic described as "the man from hollywood" and "the misbehavers".
This film is a beauty of directing, screen play and acting and shouldn't be judged only on superficial simplicity as it is more complex than you think if you really wanna get the full gist of it.
The 51st State (2001)
Certain twists present in this movie, made it worth the while - Spoilers below
In this film there are 3 main characters that is: Elmo Mc Elroy (Samuel L.Jackson), Felix De Souza (robert Carlyle) and Dakota Philips of Dawn (emily Mortimer). Here u must admire the stylish usage of names for the main characters. In this film Elmo Mc Elroy is a brilliant and revolutionary chemist, whilst Felix is a fixer a guy that arranges meetings and Dakota is a hired gun hired to first kill the above to characters and then protect them.
It has great twists an turns and the best twist is left for last when Elmo Mc Elroy explains to everyone what his formula 51 really was - a placebo which in layman's terms is a fake. The director's ideology for this film was superb. It is a well known fact that a placebo is the one true cure for alot of psychological illnesses because the brain imagines the drug to be something that no drug can become. In this context his drug was supposed to 51 times stronger, better than any other addictive drug around and due to his method of persuasion everyone made it out to be like that.
The real great drawback in this film was the acting of meatloaf a sort of mafia boss called the 'Lizard' that was after Mc Elroy's brain for the drug's secret formula. His own acting is supposed to rhetoric which is very irritating in itself and he actually plays a ridiculous part. I can't understand this current trend of using well known singers in certain films they usually just ruin the overall good plot.
Overall Samuel L.Jackson is always a cool and straight to the point actor in all of his films, whilst Robert Carlyle famous for fully monty and trainspotting, always acts as a smart little impulsive bastard but he always brings alot of spice to the film. The inexperienced emily mortimer proved to be a very good and cool, persuasive woman in this plot.
The film has brilliant camera angles, very fine screen shots and a very good plot pity though that the Lizard's part was played by someone like Meatloaf and not Joe pantoliano.
Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003)
Johnny depp's acting brightens the film!!
This film was an unforseen sequel of desperado and it was a clever plot set out by the director. It is action packed with loads of twists that will keep the average movie lover happy but alot of people in the cinema didn't like it cause they found it too gory and complicated. The only draw back of this film was that two guys that initially died in desperado were used in this sequel and given different identities.
I personally liked this film alot as it has it all - great cast, good acting, loads of action, thriller and some good jokes. Johnny depp is an amazing actor and i am looking foward to see more of his work as i can't get enough of them.
Dog Day Afternoon (1975)
Very realistic film (spoiler)
Al pacino and John Cazale acted out a bank robbery where everything went badly and the film was very realistic even though i knew that it was a true story, the only problem the film had was Leon the bf of al pacino that sort of gave a sick twist to the film cause the robbery was being done so that he could have his sex change!! Nice acting by two great actors good plot but leon ruined the masterpiece (SPOILER)
