Come True (2020)
Watch only half of it if you want to enjoy it
Not worth watching because of the ending.
While it starts very nice with strange things and strange characters, it looses a lot of its energy and mystery very fast.
I don't understand why everything is a love story and why randomly they have sex. It's like a checklist for the movie.
They made a great "monster" and build it up and it was almost like a great ending and they messed it up in the end.
They came very close to making a great cult movie but they had to implement the hollywood checklist: young naked girl, sex with stranger, "conspiracy", no action for a long time, they totally deviate from the subject, super bad ending.
In conclusion, don't watch the ending, stop watching the movie in the halfway, you will like it more.
I am upset because it was a good project and it ended up a cheap teenager scary movie with horible ending.
Battle of the Damned (2013)
Old action heroes are the best
This a B movie with a lot of flavor, they seem have a budget of about a week vacation but they use it to it's maximum.
People will say this is a bad movie but it's a bad good movie, the kind that the old action heroes would do.
The zombies are dangerous, they are many, the drama is kept to as low as possible but the main character doesn't do drama, he just does the killing.
Good movie to relax when you have a lot of free time because it has that 90's tv magic feeling when you had some food, some free time and you just switched some channels and somehow you stayed on this movie.
It has some good humor and doesn't take itself seriously, Dolph really makes a bad movie be watchable.
Just enjoy it, the main actor is from a long gone era, it wasn't the best era but it was fun
Here Alone (2016)
I am legend/omega man with a woman lead? More like drama no zombies
First of all, i gave this movie a 1 because it could have been great. They had a lot of elements going for them but they somehow switched all the attention from the great story and survival to something i will explain a bit later.
Setting:
It's mostly woods, some house but it does that very very bad habit of show 2 parallel movies: they start with the woman alone in the woods and then show their life before the epidemic.
This throws up the entire action and only serves as padding to make the movie longer.
Main character:
There are some great moments but by the half of the movie you will be dissapointed. She does some good things but also some mistakes and in the end you will end up loving her husband for him teaching her and dying for her. She should have been like the men in I am legend/ Omega man(the 3 movies) but she is just sexualised, made weak, made sentimental and ultimately not what we want to see(or at least me, people will still like the movie)
Genre:
The movie does show nudity(making the main character seem weaker in my opinion), the kind of nudity that people with a fetish would like. There are also 2 more characters, a man and her step daughter. The daughter wants to have sex with her step dad and will try to(imagine what) do this and do that.I really don't like the idea of sexual tension between a man, a woman and a girl living together in a zombie apocalipse. The zombies are rarely seen or explained. This is not how the movie is marketed, she should have been a female bear grylls with a lot more immpresive camp.
Plot:
there is no plot, there is just drama, the ending is predictable from a movie after the 2000s.
Conclusion:
Really skip this one because it is not what you expect and it could have been better with some editing and a few extra scenes. I am too harsh on the movie but they marketed as something it's not even close. All the things done in the movie are mostly stupid in a zombie survival situation and wouldn't help.
Lost in Space (2018)
Lost in Space, the spanish drama
It almost seems like a spanish housewive drama during most of the episodes, it's mostly drama, a few alien creatures and a lot of problem solving.
Format:
It has that extremly bad format where you see the present and they show stuff from the past to understand some things. So that means you will see the interesting planet and the robot but then suddenly you see the familiy doing some american drama at home. Breaks the immersion and sometime just makes you skip the whole thing.
It also has in the begining 2 "survivor groups" so they split the action between the Robinsons and the uninteresting other group. All these things just pad the run time and offer no real quality movie moments.
And it will always do this, interupt the Robinsons for some weird moment the other people have.
Plot:
This is the weakest part of the series, they always keep in some stupid but very dangerous situation wich require time to solve and resources. They will constantly battle life or death scenarios BUT we all know they won't die. The keep loosing resources but we know it doesn't matter. The robot and his ship are the most important things in the series but they totally ignore the amazing AI robot and his ship.
Characters:
The Robinsons are pretty good as a family but too bad they waste all the time trying to save each other. They also waste a lot of time doing drama and having flashbacks.
The robot AI and his ship: never explored, never explained, just a few hints in the final episode wich is not enough.
The totaly drama queen dr "Smith" who should have been killed from the first time we saw her because she is nothing but trouble and destroys everything that is good about the series. She really ruined the series for me, she didn't add anything. It's like those movies where they have the perfect life and then problem after problem after problem until you stop watching.
They also do a lot of teenager drama and some love but luckly those are not too often.
Alien planet: just our planet with big trees, mountains, antartica, plains in a small location. They have a few cgi creatures, a few bugs and some plants. They really should have worked on a memorable setting.
End notes:
They do incredibly silly things and just end up solving problems they create. We know they can't die, we know the robot is amazing(mostly because we imagine he is) we know that they will only kill secondary characters. They do a very poor job of creating something, they just do clasic bad drama with some minor twists. Can't recommand the series to anyone, everything is average at it's best. Plot holes, plot armor, plot science, plot last minute.
Total Recall (2012)
Total Recall 2012 or how you can pretend it's not a bad remake with decent cgi
First of all, this is the kind of remake that only uses the original as "a fanbase" while trying to be original and very "hollywood" but failling to capture the essence.
Setting:
This is just some nonsense SF world dystopia with a heavy political accent of freedom and democracy.
The whole world is destroyed and only England and Australia remain wich is strange. The rest of the "entire" world was destroyed by chemical attack, nuclear, war, SF magic weapons and it's inconsistent because it's not explained and no military tech is shown. Making everything seem very small scale, like the police forces of a bit city fighting with a whole country that does not have any military.
The war:
They seem to only need a basic gas mask to survive in the "dead zone" and they have the technology to drill through the entire Earth to make a huge capsule to travel. To be honest, i am sure they can reclaim the entire Earth with their technology and androids, they can dominate the entire world without too much hassle. No one uses futuristic weapons or technology except for some holographic display, the androids and some cars.
The world building aspect of the movie is poorly done since it shows more things that are in our timeline and some cgi future shots that only make things worse.
The androids:
These are the the main focus of the movie, the whole plot is made around them. How strong are they? they seem a little better than curent androids since they punch like men, they are pushed like they have 90kg and have shown no real A.I abilties, not even robot intelligence, they are basicly oversized drones. They look futuristic but use the SAME smg weapon that is used by ALL police special forces(paid by the company to use it as publicity?). Armor is useless in the movie since all bullets seem to pierce all armor, even the androids loose their plot armor after a few encounters. There are 2 types of androids, the white and the black. The black are even more stupid and weaker than the whites. They seem to have no special tech, weapons or abilities. If we compare them to the original terminators they are ultra light modern cookie cutter androids that are more fragile than a refrigerator. They don't give off that dread or fear that the terminator had and it's been so long since terminators were shown on screen.
The plot:
It's Total Recall with some cameo scenes from the original( eye candy humor) but it fails to offer any improvement since all the actors are dumbed down. They just don't look or feel real. The are slaves to the plot, having plot armor and 1 objective in the movie, even the main character. They have shown considerable restraint with less love/sex/intimate moments than i expected but in the end they don't build the characters and the movie can be edited to be about 10 minutes long. Very bad
Repo men inspiration?
It feels more like this movie than total recall sometimes. The ending is almost stolen from it in my opinion. I really don't like when a movie borrows so much from other movies that is no longer original, it's a remake of more movies that are good. If you like movies, if you love movies and watch a lot of them....this will seem like a waste of time, wich it was for me.
Equilibrium?
It borows some aspects from it too since the population is under the boot of the police and they don't have an army. But i want it to compare the police forces from here to the ones in Equilibrium. The police in Equilrium really cause fear, really have training, they have deadly special enforcement units(clerics), have better guns and they are the type that civilians would piss their pants if they got stoped by them. There are more similar things but i won't mention them, know just that the police(military since they use the police to invade) is very underwhelming.
Bad parts:
It just uses a clipboard and crosses out the clasic hollywood scenes:
Strong lead actor who is unsecure but then saves the known world
Interesting story that is reduced to stupidity plot holes, plot armor and no good acting or well written characters.
Car chase scene.
Stromtrooper chase and battles.
Plot twisting that make you twitchy and almost vomit a little bit.
Very pretentious, it's it's biggest sin, it takes itself too seriously and using it's budged on a few scenes.
Very political
You see the high tech, low tech, modern world mashup wich breaks the immersion like a brick through a glass window
Conclusion:
I give it a 1 because it showed potential and just wasted it on nothing. This is the kind of movie that you will never rewatch and makes you watch better movies. I almost feel bad for writing a bad review but these kind of movies need to stop. Remakes or sequals are good but not when they are done like this.
The movie is full of things like: plot armor, paper real armor, guns with 500% clip size, guns shooting or being used like lasers, same "assets" used over and over like costumes/guns/helmets, plot armor fight scenes, main bad guy who should be in an office or at least wearing panzer armor, very cgi fight scenes.
If you love movies and want a good sci fi you should really skip this movie because you will hate it if you see it
Barbershop (2002)
Life lesson, pride and principles
I give this movie a 10, it may not be very artistic or profound but it has a lot of "magic" in it. By magic i want to it's a movie about the life of people and their symbol. During the movie the barber shop transforms from an ugly place in a bad neighbourhood to a family. It's full of stories and hope, the chance for a clean life. In a way i want to own that barber shop and i think everyone wants that barber shop. It's about something we all lost and need back. We could live without a lot of things if we don't know their value but this movie actually reminds us of a few of them. And it has a lot of lost concepts nowadays in a movie. It has a low budget and great dialogue with great people in it. They are not glamorous they have a message to share and no stereotypical dialogue(like in iron man, avengers, spiderman etc) So if you watch this movie, don't quit, don't stop, don't do something else. It's a life lesson that needs to be seen. I would say this is a more diverse Raisin in the sun with a bigger family and the business is a clean one.
Yentl (1983)
Best musical/motivation
There are at least a couple of movies of each genre which make that genre shine like a sun.Yentl is one of them, sounds like a musical but it's actually a motivational movie for....women?No, it's for all, the best lines in the movie are in the beginning when Yentl says she wants to know the mysteries of the universe, of life and not be a house wife. It's about learning the important things in life and to follow a dream against all odds. It's not a happy movie, it has some things i don't like...some weirdness with homosexual thoughts but it's a movie that all should see and to learn to enjoy the study of life/in life. Overall, very nice story, it's not about a girl who wants to be a boy, it's about a woman who wants to be a human, an intelligent human.
Hak kuen (2006)
One of the best movies
I give it a 10.It's a movie full of soul.It starts pretty funny, gets into serious talking. But the ending and the characters make everything possible. It's about life, it's about priorities, it's about the human soul.If the soul is too damaged it will never survive happier times, it will crumble under it's own weight.Gives perspective on life....most people won't understand or appreciate it. The actors are playing a serious and simple act, they don't have fancy words or eccentric habits. The scenes are pretty simple and focus on the characters. I would not miss this movie if i like to see the unseen. The main characters are like children, they are in a pure form of existence, they are mortals, they are human.
