Pacific Rim (2013)
6/10
Action wise good but Story wise weak!
13 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
What's Good: A magnanimous face off between Robots and Aliens done on a grand scale technical is almost a visual treat!

What's Bad: The story loses its appeal by busying itself in focusing on fights!

Watch or Not?: Garnished with only a hint of imagination, Guillermo del Torro fails to evoke the same fascination that he did with Hell Boy. Pacific Rim coming across as an adequate spectacle of Transformers battling Godzilla, the story is lost amidst focusing too hard on the blaze. Packed with high intensity, the film's catastrophe feel will satiate the childish mirth of a fanboy teenager. Don't expect a story, expect calamity!

Pacific Rim Review: Script Analysis

Pacific Rim has been made on visionary scale in terms of detailing and technicalities, but the story suffers a major blow. Beginning off well with a voice over about the Kaiju War, the story lacks rarity in it. The Kaiju which seem distant kins of Godzilla, is pasted on a gargantuan canvas. Story wise, it is not emotionally wicked. The backstory that validated the commanding officer's paternal affinity with Mako lacked the dramatic punch. Mostly, the theory postulated by Dr Newton about the Kaiju brains being clones, is concluded abruptly, leaving it half baked. There were unnecessary deviations from the plot. With Newton going in search of Kaiju brain to a black market dealer Hannibal Chau is lame as it wraps up into nothing. It is disappointing to see such intelligent concepts wrapping up into nothing! The eye popping expectations are met mostly, but the film's plot is so slim that it loses its ground without flaunting its action prowess!

Nice Biopic...Watch it for Farhan Akhtar!
12 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Review: Script Analysis The film is an intelligently disguised story of a man whom history cannot faze out easily. Milkha Singh's life story has the right ingredients for a clever biopic which Prasoon Joshi and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra have executed with delectable imagination. At no point does the film scatter in terms of story or intention, steering close to the relevant facts. Mehra rightfully reuses his Rang De Basanti style of narration which works to enhance the film's tempo by absorbing your attention into it even more.

The story's melodrama is restricted, keeping the dramatic bits plain. It is painful to see the Partition sequences of the story which have been carried out remarkably. In a particular sequence, where the young Milkha Singh slips on a puddle of blood after his entire 'pind' has been wiped off is the most fearsome portrayal of wretchedness! The story's tainted scenes weave the haunting air fantastically and yet the cherishable moments maintain the story's sheen. A couple of scenes are beyond the dimensions of cinematic marvel and ooze innocence wrapped in simplistic story telling!

From the glee of getting his first India blazer to when he loses the qualifying match in Melbourne to when he breaks down crying the pent up tears of years , the story's terrain is smartly packed with judicious amounts of highs and lows, making the film's recipe flawless.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag Review: Star Performances Farhan Akhtar has immersed in himself the soul of Milkha Singh. Giving the best work of his career, he is resplendent as Milkha Singh. He brings out Milkha's vulnerability with charm and his passion with force. There is comfortable and effortless energy Farhan infuses in his role which makes me sure no one could have played it better than him. The actor will impress you with the work he has done in his physique. He has drawn a believable, grounded and exemplary picture of a man whose story people are less fluent with. With this unblemished portrayal, Farhan will astound you!

Sonam Kapoor has a lovely tinge in her little role in her limited screen time, she will flatter you enough that you actually feel bad that Milkha and Biro eventually part ways!

Divya Dutta plays Farhan's older sister spotlessly well. A pillar of support and maternal love, she plays helplessness with command. A victim of domestic violence and marital rape, she paints the hues of her character commendably.

Pavan Malhotra shines through every scene with a first rate work and amazes you with his easy confidence.

Watch it for Farhan Akhtar!

GOOD movie..& lovely performance by Dhanush ..but the background music is not good.
28 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
What's Good: A charming first half, lovely performance by Dhanush, the prevailing innocence in the story's milieu will have you absorbed.

What's Bad: Yet again, the second half goes absolutely haywire and butchers the high the film's first half attains. The back ground music is not good.

Raanjhanaa Review: Star Performances

Dhanush has in him the Superstar persona. He performs with clever and quenching mirth. With unmatched energy, the man does stand out solidly. Though his diction fails, the innocence in his work and the naivety he gets in Kunder is laudable.

Sonam Kapoor is pretty but renders no marrow to her role, leaving it insipid and hollow! Her flat expressions in the film's most climatic moments do some crucial and irreparable damage!

Abhay Deol in his few minutes managed to do the most impressive job. His tantalizing dimples are indeed magical and as an actor he is indeed fascinating!

Swara Bhaskar and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub are mesmeric in the supporting roles and often exhaust Sonam and Dhanush's act.

twisting enough!
25 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Script Analysis: The screenplay, by Shiraz Ahmad, is all fluff. It's a revenge story with a twist in almost every ten minutes. Everyone knows what the other person is planning. There's a lot of backstabbing, cheating and lies going around. It may be enough to get you interested, but it gets tiring after a while. Logic, of course, has no place in this filmmaker's world. If casino owners were as stupid as Rajesh Khattar, who exchanges Ranvir's "fake" currency for real ones without checking a single note, the world would be a richer place indeed. And that's just the start. Armaan's intro is some gibberish about how he's an honest thief but he doesn't seem to have any qualms about cheating when he gets a chance. Ranvir steals the Shroud of Turin with such ease as if it were the Stone Age and CCTVs or other hi-tech security measures weren't invented till then.

Most of Kiran Kotrial's dialogues are like an unimpressive 2nd grader's examination sheet; mostly one line questions and similar answers with no substance. "Dara rahi ho ya challenge kar rahi ho?", "Flirt kar rahe ho ya tareef?" etc.

The Last Word: if u like thriller movies then u must watch! after Don2 this goes to be gud thriller movies...

not good!
18 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Script Analysis: The movie script has been shamelessly lifted from the gritty and fantastic 1997 neo-noir film L.A. Confidential by Curtis Hanson. While there's no shred of respect for the book or the movie, writer Ghalib Asad Bhopali has instead used it to make the movie bear no semblance to sanity or logic. A crooked cop is understandable –and heck, even the new 'it' thing – but we have a policeman snorting cocaine, losing lakhs by betting on cricket matches, and you're supposed to root for him. You also have other policemen in his team who don't think twice before touching bullet shells on the crime scene with their bare hands. The hero calmly wakes up at the heroine's house after a night of substance abuse; how he got her address is our mystery to solve. Or even how he can serenade into Shetty's fortress and steal a packet of cocaine from his moll's bag. Or why two-bit roadside ruffians seem to be dealing coke. Or why they had a script for this film.

Abhijeet's wisecracks are accompanied by a "Dum pe lakdi" song and music, but his bland comebacks are not a lakdi on anything. The dialogues might make you laugh, but that's definitely not what the writer intended.

Star Performances: There's a Dabangg wannabe, there's a Salman Khan wannabe, and then there's Sachiin Joshi. Sachiin doesn't really have the charm or charisma, and when he tries to look nonchalant, he just looks cocky and arrogant. Considering the traits his character displays in the movie, he might give it a rest for some time. Gihani Khan mostly displays the twins while mouthing some uninteresting dialogues as Rani. Vimala Raman does well as the journalist-turned-nurse-turned-social activist Jia. The poor thing looks like she has to dance with a brick when Sachiin tries to shake a leg with her. Prashant Narayanan is wasted in his role as Inspector Prashant and delivers his dialogues without pausing for breath.

Prakash Raj sleepwalks his way through this movie (and is probably the only salvaging factor) but his character, traits and persona as Shetty are exactly the same as his roles in Wanted and Singham. Aditya Pancholi is alright as Durrani. Mahesh Manjrekar is good as Gaitonde.

Direction, Music & Editing: Ankush Bhatt does a bad job. A garbled script, jerky characters and a disappointing lead actor don't add up to any points for the director. Anand Raj Anand and Amjad Nadeem's music is alright. The item songs attack you out of the blue and are not even much to look at. The cinematography is alright. The editing is sloppy.

The Last Word: Mumbai Mirror is a terrible mistake. If you want to laugh at the utter nonsense going on on-screen, you might as well sit through it.

Dil Dariya (1988–1989)

gud story!
30 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This serial was based in Punjab. It was a story of a Sikh and Hindu family who are neighbours and best of friends. The strife in relationships occur within this loving atmosphere because of the prevailing tensions in Punjab. The serial was directed by perhaps one of the best directors in our film industry, Mr. Lekh Tandon.

from $RK:''It was a major learning experience for me. The serial was highly emotional and required a lot of crying and heartfelt emotional acting. It became quite an exercise for me to relate to absolutely basic Indian emotions coming from a rather westernized school of acting. Mr. Tandon, or Lekhji, as I call him, really helped me a lot to just get over the inhibitions and relate to a louder set of emotions and overall acting style which was required for the role.''

Dabangg 2 (2012)
2/10
not as EXpected!
21 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
What's Good: The return of Chulbul Pandey-Rajjo-Makkhi; the comedy; some songs; the direction & cinematography.

What's Bad: The convenient story; the forced father-son & Mahie-Arbaaz trajectories; the whole feel like a wannabe clone of Dabangg; the irritating product placements.

Loo break: Not Really.

Watch or Not?: Watch it for Chulbul back in his game and if you're a fan of Salman.

Can improved: the role of Prakash Raj is too small..we need him big like in 'Singham'!

Remember when all Salman Khan movies started looking the same? This is just another chip off the old block. It's heart-warming to see that the extra reel from Dabangg was put to some good use.

Our dear corrupt-but-good cop Chulbul Pandey (Salman Khan) has shifted base to Kanpur with wife Rajjo (Sonakshi Sinha), step-father Prajapati (Vinod Khanna) and brother Makkhi (Arbaaz Khan). Pandeyji even has some of his loyal constables transferred with him. As Kanpur begins to feel the heat of Chulbul's awesomeness, so does local-don-and-aspiring politician Thakur Bachcha (Prakash Raj). Bachcha and his spoilt, troublesome brothers are a menace to the town.

When Bachcha's brother Gainda (Deepak Dobriyal) oversteps by threatening Prajapati and tries to abduct a girl from her wedding, Chubul Pandey breaks his neck. Caught up in the preparations for the elections, Bachcha denounces his brother and continues campaigning. There Chulbul bonds with his father and revels in the news of being a daddy soon. Even his dim-witted brother takes an interest in taking up a job.

But it doesn't take long for Bachcha to remember his brother.

Weak Script Analysis: If you're looking for something new in Dabangg 2, you will be disappointed. Dileep Shukla's script and screenplay is very similar to Dabangg; while this is amusing in some parts, it looks lazy in others. The jokes, action, dialogues seem like fall-outs from the old script. With Chulbul's mother out of the picture, his bonding with his father and brother stick out like a sore thumb. Makkhi missing his wife also seems half-baked. Even Bachcha's late revenge is something the writer alone can explain.
