Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Fantastic, sublime, stunning, thrilling: a masterpiece!
Unbelievable. Amazing.
Throughout my life I, as a true fan of comics and Japanese sagas of Toho / Kaijus, have waited for such a film. Forget about the meager dialogues and the presence of teenage wonder prodigies because that was in the background. The film, to our joy, totally privileged the monsters and the battles between them. Surprisingly, in the case of a Hollywood production, this time there was no concern just to sell trinkets with the franchise.
Finally, the monsters dominated the screen from start to finish, highlighting the King of Monsters.
Forget the critics, the movie was made for the real fans of Toho's monsters. In the end, you realize that you will look forward to the month of May 2020, when Godzilla x Kong will come.
SPOILER ahead:
At the end of the show, I lay prostrate, motionless, with no reaction in the movie chair. Tears streamed down my face.
In the scene where the monsters pay reverence to their King, I wanted to be able to get up from the chair and also to kneel before Godzilla.
A true masterpiece of fiction.
I wish a long life to Warner / Legendary MonsterVerse.
And of course, long life to the King!
Iguana (1988)
Based on a book...
I get the impression that this movie is based on a book: Alberto Vázquez-Figueroa's novel "La Iguana", released on 1982.
Here in Brazil it was released on 1989, with the title "O Iguana".
Read this book when I was in school, at the suggestion of a teacher. A very good and interesting book.
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Thor-ture
Jokes and jokes and more jokes. From the first to the last minute.
This movie is a comedy, a mix of Monty Python and Deadpool/Guardians of the Galaxy. And none of this matches Thor's universe (at least in the comic book universe).
I do not understand why so many people liked it so much. Surtur and Hella...they were ridiculed and demoralized, so the question is: why? All the characters looked like Tony Stark clones, in the matter of excessive and unnecessary humor.
A giant waste of time and oppotunities, indeed.
Note 2 was motivated only by the soundtrack (Led Zeppelin, of course). Otherwise I would score 1.
