Take the older teens, but not the kids.
22 September 2018
"Assassination Nation" is one of the most bizarre and violent teen movies you will ever see. Its also brilliant. When I first saw the trailer it looked like it had some good ideas, But that it had no sense of what to do with those ideas. Seriously the trailer is a complete mess and somewhat incoherent. But I saw the high scores from critics and audiences alike (on another site, not IMDB) and even though the film does feel a little chaotic at times, it does have focus and all the chaotic is part of the story and makes absolute sense when viewing the film. It is kind of like "Mean Girls" meets "Natural Born Killers" with a little "Heathers" and "Kids" thrown in to the mix. It also reminded me a little bit of "Pump Up the Volume" a forgotten teen masterpiece. It certainly isn't for everyone and should probably be Rated NC-17 considering its target audience. Seriously if a parent took a child under the age of 13 to see it, it would be child abuse in my opinion. And I thought "Fahrenheit 11/9" was going to be the most controversial and political film I was going to see this week. Lolz. What was I thinking?

So many reviewers have obviously not seen the film and just came here to bash Michael Moore.

First off, its so obvious that many of the reviewers haven't even seen the film. One called it liberal propaganda. The movie spends just as much time attacking democrats - including Barack Obama, as it does Donald Trump and the Republican party. The reviewer that said it was "DNC Studios Biasedly Presents..." Again, couldn't have possibly seen it. 11/6 or 11/9. To that reviewer, the date is not in reference to upcoming elections, or even the election date of 2016. Its a reference to the date they called the election in favor of Trump (because it was like 2:30am when the election was called in his favor, the date was 11/9) And he is comparing Trump being elected as being an event as devastating for this country as the attack on 9/11 for those who did not get the title, hope that helps. Now for the actual film. This film does start off being about the 2016 election and quickly shifts focus to the Water crisis in Flint, Michigan, the school shooting in Parkland, FL, The West Virginia Teachers strike and several other recent events that are relevant and responsible for the state this country is in. Its not all about Trump, Michael Moore knew better than to do that. This film is important, urgent and needs to be viewed by every American citizen, but since so many have already drank the Kool-Aid it would probably have no affect on them. But anyone with a brain it could spark some serious, important discussions that we need to be having.

Not what I expected at all in the best way possible.

I am a huge fan of documentaries and a huge Jason Mraz fan and expected this to be a "for the fans only" kind of movie. With musical performances highlighting music from his new album. Of course its got that too, but more importantly its an excellent documentary about music and arts education programs and that's what it really is more than a Jason Mraz promo film. What a surprising bonus that was. I believe I MAY have heard one expletive in a song lyric, but other than that its a wholesome family event. Its also the first film in quite a long time that I wanted to go and tell everyone I've ever met that they need to go see it immediately. Unfortunately it was a one-time only event in theaters. I do hope to see it show up on Blu-ray, DVD or for sale digitally because people need to see this movie. It at least needs to be made available on a streaming site like Hulu or Netflix. I was also very pleased to learn that all money from tickets sales tonight is going to arts education programs. Very inspiring and I think it could inspire a very young person interested in pursuing an artistic career path. But its a great film for anyone. Especially music lovers and lovers of uplifting documentaries.
