Movie spin off based on the long running sci/horror series, with an anthology of four strange stories delving into the supernatural and unknown, There is a prologue at the beginning of the movie featuring dan aykroyd and albert brooks in which a driver(brooks) picks up a hitchiker(aykroyd) which ends with the line... you wanna see somethin scary?!!, story one directed by john landis is ok considering the stigma with what happened to vic morrow and the two vietmanese child actors on set...A story about a racist war veteran(morrow) who decends into a time warp and gets a taste of his own medicine.,an extra scene was filmed in a narrow gully with prop water in the former indian dunes movie ranch in california were a helicopter is persuing morrow trying to save 2 vietmanese children during a sequence in the vietnam war tragically the helicopter was hovering only 25 feet above and lost control after the rotas became laminated from the explosive effects and the aircraft plumetted on top of all 3 off the actors, landis for me was accountable for the tragedy he was breaking california law for children working in the middle of the night and paid the parents under the table as the scene was shot around 2am in the morning, landis and others involved were acquitted and compensation was paid to the actors especially the childrens patents, but a bad call by landis and everyone working on the safety of the scene. Story 2 directed by steven spielberg is just boring and weird about the strange forgoings of a old man (scatman corruthers in an elderly care home, this is easily spielbergs worst work ever , story 3 directed by joe dante is pretentious but has some great visual effects, which echoes the burbs (1989 in some ways.
Story 4 starring the excellent john lithgow, about a man affraid of flying having a mental breakdown on a flight or is he? Directed by george miller (mad max series) is the best in the anthology and saves a pretty routine watch up until the latter , this nod to the good old series is ok , its watchable and entertaining at times but i think there is many more memorable episodes in the series compared to these, but still a good homage never the less 6/10.
