Good Boy (II) (2022)

Entertaning but ruined by clichés
4 November 2023
This small thriller tells the story of Sigrid, who meets this mysterious and charming guy on Tinder, only to discover that his dog is a real human being using a costume. Even with her instinct telling her to run away, she starts a relation with this guy.

Despite starting very strong at building the mystery and intrigue, by the third act you will see the same clichés of every thriller and horror movie that really ruin the atmosphere and logic. Once you see this, you can really anticipate how will end, and it ends very stupid.

The good thing is that is a very short movie so I would still recommend it to watch it at least one time.

Boring
24 September 2023
A family moves to a new house, only for the father to be haunted by some strange presences. I gave a chance to this film because of the other reviews that were very positive, sadly the film was extremely generic with very bad effects. It doesnt have a horror or suspense atmospher, on the contrary, you will find yourself not intrigued at all.

It has some nice twist at the end but the problem is that you need to spend 90 mins of nothing to get there.

The soundtrack is good and the acting is okay. I would only recommend this film just for the ending, if you feel curious. Still very dissapointing.

Causality (2021)

Intriguing and entertaining
4 January 2022
"Causalidad" is a low budget thriller from Argentina about a woman who is kidnapped after being drugged in a bar. Even if the story doesn't bring anything new to the genre, the film works with good acting and a superb script, plus it was filmed in one sequence without cuts.

It is recommended for those viewers that enjoy a smart story despite a low budget production.

Rizhoma Hotel (2018)

Basic instincts
3 April 2020
This small drama/thriller argentine TV series gives us a new tale in each episode that happens in a diferent room of the Rizhoma Hotel. It is well made despite the low budget and the acting is excellent, the soundtrack works creating a mystery and tense atmosphere. In each episode will see carachters losing control on extreme situations, showing their most basics instincts and the feeling of self survillance. It might not add nothing new to the genre but it is certainly entertaining.

Tense
26 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Joaquin Furriel gives a solid performance as a disturbed artist who becomes paranoid after his son's birth. The film has a very intriguing atmosphere, with some twists you probably won't expect. A refreshing mystery thriller with some Polanskys vibes.

A story we all know
26 May 2019
An actress remembers her glory days while she meets a mysterious fan couple that accidentely stops by on her house. The first half of the movie gives a very intriguing premise with solid performances, as a drama works perfectly, as a comedy fails with very forced and unnefective jokes. The problem of the movie is that once you start solving the puzzle, the story feels very stupid and ridiculous (specially the twist) to force a predictable ending. I give it a 5 because of its very strong acting that made the movie watchable.

Pretencious mess
23 March 2019
Jordan Peele's Get out gave us something fresh to the horror thriller fans with a very tense and intriguing story. I was expecting something as good as that but what I saw was a pretencious story that intends to be deep but in the end is just a mess with almost no explaination. There are no moments of tension, and the suspense scenes are full of cliches, also the atmosphere is mixed with jokes ruining the scares if there's any. Death scenes with a catchy music in the background like we've seen in hundred of films. Certainly marketing did it again. "It's a trap!"

Nothing new
29 December 2018
A regular film with good acting and production but there are no moments of tension, no suspense like recent films with similar plot (A quiet place). The story has a lot of holes and you get no answers, besides I spected something more sinister and visceral but this is just another popcorn horror movie for every audience.

Portrait of one of the faces of labor exploitation in Argentina
30 September 2018
Although Argentina has a long road in the recognition of human rights, it still has a pending debt with respect to labor rights, with working under the table being one of the most relevant problems that has worsened seriously in recent years. The film tells the story of Hermógenes, a low-class, illiterate butcher born in a town in the interior of Argentina who moves with his partner to Buenos Aires to progress. There he will be exploited in a cruel and dehumanized way by his "boss" with whom he will maintain a close relationship to slavery. The performances are excellent causing a great indignation in the viewer, and although there are no great scenarios or a photographed work, we find a film that works with its objective that is to show the exploitation suffered by people of low educational training while movintg to large urban centers. 8/10

Better Watch Out (II) (2016)

Cheap pretencious
3 June 2018
A film that pretendes to be clever but fails on execution. It starts with every horror movie cliché (its intended) so you don't see the twist coming, which is a smart one. The problem is that the execution is boring, its not disturbing, not sinister, it could have more impact if it had an obscure atmosphere but it is al mixed with stupid jokes, like a PG-13 movie. Kinda entertaining but not as impressive as the critics say. (I recommend The visit, that's a funny one)

I'm Gilda (2016)
10/10
Perfect tribute to one of the icons of Argentine music
21 September 2016
For those who do not know, Gilda was a renowned singer of "Cumbia" - which is a popular rhythm in Argentina - who at the peak of her career suffered a terrible accident that ended her life, but even after her death, she is still revered, recognized and remembered by all hearts of Argentine people. The film tells what was her musical career, from its beginnings to its peak, with scenes from her childhood to help understand their motivations. The performances are excellent, Natalia Oreiro who personifies Gilda, performs this role with commitment which is evident in every gesture she makes, and the tone of her voice in the songs, which was typical of the singer. The film is emotional, it is difficult not to be moved so that the protagonist lives, even that never appealed to low blows, the making of the film is as exquisite as effective. For those who know Gilda, this will be the best tribute that could have been done, but those who do not know her, yet can enjoy a superbly performed drama, at the height of any Hollywood biopic.

El Deseo (2004)

The desire, the masterpiece that was lost
31 July 2012
2004, after the stunning success of "Resistiré", Telefe producer opts for a story that goes far beyond its predecessor, the Argentine prime-time is invaded by spectacular show so rich in details that will surprise you , a work of art from the first chapter extremely careful in every way, without letting any way. The story, super intriguing, a small, quiet town where life comes on smoothly, however, hides a dark secret behind this screen, a secret that connects each of the many characters in the story. Loaded with sensuality, adult story, serious, in a short time uses comedy, to give a very dark character throughout the show. Also a story ready to put no limit to the reality, (like its predecessor "Resistiré" which showed the depths of the human being as well as sexual and ambiguous desires) goes into the perverse pleasures of man without fear to bring out the diversity in sexuality. As for the cast, is a luxury the quality of actors involved, impeccable performances, as well as unique style of each character. Most impressive is the direction of photography, and design of each stage and presentation titles, the whole aesthetic of the program is comparable to that of a movie. Special mention deserves the soundtrack, so carefully sought, fits well with every scene and every moment of history, that would be happy just to hear the program and yet I would be satisfied. Despite all the good in this production, the Argentine public (as open minded as to enjoy other such controversial programs as "Resistiré", "Tiempo final", "Disputas", "Sangre fría" among others) did not know appreciate the magnitude of this story and the care that was performed allowing only 60 chapters, a lower figure when considering the 230 episodes of "Resistiré". To those who want to enjoy an excellent TV show, I recommend "The Desire", you will not regret it.

Manuelita (1999)
10/10
Emotional movie, perfect for all family members
26 April 2012
Manuelita is a proof of animated Disney movies aren't the only good ones, with such a sweet story about a little turtle who wants to fly and travel the world, this film will surprise you with the lovely songs, characters, scenarios, and an atmosphere of tenderness that leaves a pleasant sensation. In every way, this is a recommended movie for all audiences and the little ones love it. Is admirable quality of the animation, as well as that of the characters denoting that have been the result of hard work as each of them have very specific characteristics that make them special. Another point to highlight is the story, where a small turtle becomes a model in Paris, and will have to go through tough situations but after all this will leave a teaching in the audience. Maybe it's something very different from what kids are used to seeing, but still that's what makes it so special to this film, because it shows an adult world from a vision adapted for children. Also as a guarantee, this is a film of Garcia Ferre which is like Walt Disney in South America, so do not hesitate. A film of great quality that you can not miss, give it a chance, u will not regret!

Awesome movie
23 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This an excellent Argentinian movie, for those who think that good movies is just on the united states this a really good example of that's not correct. The movie has everything, beautiful actors, awesome songs, comedy, romance, dramatic scenes. Its some parody bout religion n church, if u r such a believer or homophobic this wont be nice at all, but if u are not Im sure its going to be really nice. Watch it! I forgot, when you watch this movie you wont realise that this is not a Hollywood movie. Some people said that the movie had bad acting but thats not true at all. Well, what else can I say? Try to find it on DVD, make pop corn, n have a great time watching this movie!
