Tarantino film wannabe but failed miserably
15 August 2022
The movie got carried away with blood and gore, from "this gonna be good" to "yeah, whatever you say ...", 30 minutes in, you still don't know what the plot is, the westerners looking actors can't act, and you don't connect with any of the characters. Really bad movie, couldn't finish it.

Watch it like I did, then decide yourself

"cheaper Bourne copy" in the news had me hesitate a bit, but it turned out to be a surprisingly good action movie, fast paced and nicely choreographed. Chris Evans is great in bad guy's role. He should have been the Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Anyway, watch it with an open mind.

Asian stereotype and girl stereotypes
10 May 2022
We have seen all these stereotypes in films, in TV shows way too often and it's really really getting old, then with women's M cycle thrown in as educational (?) materials, I can imagine the male audience squirming in their seats, it's really a overall bad movie experience.

Could have been better edited

The war story/scenes are great, but the PROLONGED drug use scenes make you want to scream at the main characters "Just kill yourselves already", it should have been balanced with the road of struggle to rehab/recovery, in the end only the gross drug use makes up the impression of the whole movie.

If you were at the premier ...

(like Tom Cruise and other big stars) at the end of movie, do you APPLAUD 1) to fake your understanding of the story/plot? OR 2) to fake your understanding of the story/plot?

My Spy (2020)

surprisingly good

The funny dialogs, overall great acting and poking fun of Hollywood hero blowing things up while walking away saves this baby sitting story from becoming just another cliché movie. I wasn't expecting much, but ended up laughing and smiling. It's a good breakaway from too many dark, gore and sex in other movies and TV shows. Recommended.

With great beginning and setup, but by mid way, the show lost focus
5 December 2020
The show started introducing random characters and branch stories past episode 4, the main characters' screen time also reduced, felt like the writers invented stories as shooting were going on, a shame really.

So many shows, glad I picked this one
15 May 2020
Just started Season 4 and it's even better than the already great previous seasons, if Game of Throne still leaves a bad taste in your mouth, start with this more down to earth epic (no zombies, no dragon lady, no dragons), the acting is great you would grow to like the character, especially Beocca etc. You will not be disappointed.

Midway (2019)
10/10
what a great solid movie
10 November 2019
Agree with other reviewer, this is the best war movie in a long time, it went through three historical events, attack on pearl harbor, doolittle Tokyo air raid and battle of midway linked together with a human story of a dive bomber pilot, and what a great history/story telling it was. The beginning of the massive Enterprise aircraft carrier, shaking the theater with the Dolby sound has the feel of Star War IV Battle cruiser opening scene, and a tight story line and pace ensues. The CGI is the best, you don't see AT-6 Texan painted as Zero fighters, you don't see modern warships disguised as battle-hardened WW2 ones, from this point forward I predict we will see more movies with period-correct war machines. The movie has moments that make you sigh (dud torpedo that hit but didn't explode, bombs missed after pilot braved through clouds of flaks) and cheer (bulls-eyed on the giant Sun on the deck, and chain explosion of the littered ammos because of tactic confusions), this is Hollywood at its best in rare moments, no over lingering love story, no cliche stereotyped GIs, what you have are characters in a war trying to survive, trying to outsmart the other side, and trying but dying ... you can read about those three events before or after the movie, but for me, I enjoyed a great movie, finished till the credit ends and walked out feeling great, grateful and blessed as an American.

Dunkirk (2017)

Really, it's not that great
1 January 2018
IMDB rating has always been accurate, 7+ is worth watching, 8+ is outstanding, but this 8.2 is overly inflated, a 6.5 is close to reality. Granted, there's no glory in "Evacuation and Retreat", but the writers can always show individual heroics, survival struggle and war terror, they tried and failed in any of them, like most reviewers here, I was wondering did the critics get to watch a different film? Almost TWENTY years ago, Saving Private Ryan showed us how merciless the war can be, cliche aside, there were heroism, realism and shock. Twelve years ago, History channel's Dogfights showed us CGI has improved so much that period correct machines, correctly painted fighters can be simulated in realistic dogfights, and numerous movies showed epic, expansive landscape with soldiers, but this 2017 movie has none of that. The story is bland, acting is so-so and viewers are UNDERwhelmed. If you do watch it and you will agree.

One sentence and the drama would end

"Carl shot it and it's not even a real gun", that will save us the tedious drama. Rented online, couldn't even finish it, save your time.

Wish I can forward this movie
26 March 2017
anything above 7 in IMDb is generally worth the time, 7.5 normally is outstanding, this movie has a promising start but somehow manages to become boring and I was detaching myself at half way. Is it because I didn't read the book? is it because I was expecting a Harry Potter type story telling? Anyway, if you REALLY have time to kill, see it but you will hate me for not stopping you.
