Lake Mungo (2008)

Excellent movie, HIGHLY recommend!
15 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I have seen a lot of movies in the horror genre and have to say this is by far my favorite 'ghost' story ever....

Alice is a 16 year old girl who drowns at a dam while picnicking with her family. The film goes through the loss and recovery of her body through news clips and interviews with family and friends. Some time is spent on the grief process which adds to the 'feel' of the movie and then it throws you into the haunting. I don't want to give to much away because it is really worth watching but there are chilling twists that really make you think. Pay close attention to ending credits.

Very good movie, I will definitely be adding it to my personal collection.

When is the torture going to end????
15 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't even bother with a review for 'New Moon' I think it was summarized well with a reviewer saying they wanted to throw their eyeballs at it. This one I HAVE to leave a review...

After 3, count them 3 movies made so far and a 4th and 5th on the way, I have to ask "When will the torture end"? The visual of the movies are getting better, I no longer feel like I am sitting in a fog machine BUT please for the love of all that is HOLY, send Kristin and Robert to acting classes before we go on to any other movies. A box of clear tape needs to be put in Kristin's trailer to tape her gaping mouth shut. I am so tired of every time I see her she has this retarded open mouth stare and I feel like I should give her a tissue to wipe up the drool. The plaster like makeup they put on Robert must make his face so hard that he can't form any other expression but a scowl. Using the two of them as the face of 'Twilight' was a HUGE mistake because they have completely ruined this series. Thank you to whoever brought in Dakota because she is the ONLY reason this movie has anything to offer.

With that said (just a few peeves I have been carrying for a while) here's a note to whoever is in charge of scenery....the snow scene at the end looks like a decorated stage and not the top of a mountain. It is very apparent and extremely irritating, and honestly an insult that you would like us to believe they are any where but in front of a green screen or a stage. A note to the director....STOP rushing important scenes that are outlined and told in detail in the book. You are missing the point of the story and rushing it makes the viewer feel unsatisfied. And don't forget to send your lead actors to summer school before they finish destroying this franchise.

Now that the first 3 are out of the way and destroyed, I plan to see what kind of disaster they come up with for 'Breaking Dawn'. Should be interesting since it is the longest book of the series with many characters and is covered over a great distance of time. I'm hoping in about 5 to 10 years for remakes to see if someone else can do better with this series that had so much potential to start with. So far it has been nothing but a great disappointment and a let down of the high hopes I had for it.

Twilight (I) (2008)

How could this of happened?????
15 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I have read all the books out of curiosity from all the hype. 'Twilight' I picked up at the bookstore only because there was a HUGE promo a month before the movie came out and they had TONS of paperbacks available that even women my age were grabbing up. I couldn't fathom what could possibly be so special about this book that teenage girls and older women were acting like nutcases over at the bookstore for. So needless to say I bought the paperback because I'm an avid reader and assumed it was the new Holy Grail of literature I hadn't heard about. I went into it with NO former knowledge of the Twilight world and honestly I no idea what to expect. The book was excellent...but this is not a book review so I will move on to the movie...

The movie is HORRIBLE and a great DISAPPOINTMENT! Every excellent feature, scene, emotion, and character quality in the book was stripped from this movie (as they usually are but this takes it to a whole new level)and it left the entire movie, characters and story, hollow. Honestly while watching it at the theater (yes I went)I was embarrassed for the actors and the author. I'm not sure how with a story/book so popular and so high profile this could be the final adaptation of the book. With all the tricks of the trade available for today's movie making how could this low budget, should of gone straight to video, movie been set loose on the public? I had to come home and reread the book just to wipe the horrible memory of the movie from my mind.

Another example of taking a great book and ruining it by turning it into a movie. I will never watch it again.

Funny once your past the first 1/2 hour.....
15 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This wasn't a horrible movie, I HATE comedies but it wasn't my turn to pick a movie this time. I was completely bored the first half an hour or so but then was forced to pay attention from lack of anything else to do. I'm glad I did, Ken Jeoung as usual is so outlandish he's hysterical and the one liners are set perfectly.

The whole "plot" of the movie is set around a guy who cannot get his girlfriend "train to Orlando" during sex, so he seeks the help of friends, lesbians, porn stars, and even his family to give him pointers on what to do. Afraid of losing said girlfriend, guy tries the advice with funny outcomes.

Eugene Byrd is hilarious as the best friend and the other spare characters all give enough of a performance to make this movie a good laugh. I was pleasantly surprised and would say it is worth the suffering of the slow beginning and if nothing else the scene with Jenna Jameson at the gas station is classic!

The Open Road (2009)

Worth the time....
15 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was an excellent movie with a great cast and good script. I only saw the preview on another movie I rented and had not heard of it before then. After watching it I'm surprised it didn't do better.

Justin Timberlake is a baseball player thats lost his passion and isn't playing so well. His mother is in the hospital needing heart surgery but refuses to sign a waiver for surgery without first having his estranged father there. This is where the fun starts. He flies to Ohio with his friend played by Kate Mara to meet up with and talk his father into coming down to Houston for the surgery. And the real laughs begin from there...

Jeff Bridges did an amazing job with his character and it just sent this movie a top spot on my movie list. Very good film, very funny but still carried a heartwarming story well. A definite must-see and should really be given more attention.

I must be missing something......Contains Spoilers!!!
14 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I must really be missing something after reading some of the other reviews. I thought this was a complete was of what should of been an enjoyable movie experience.

To sum it up there is a professor who studies the paranormal and just happens to get a new student in class that happens to be a clairvoyant, how convenient, that she can use in here new research project. From that point on it just gets predictable. Professor and student start sexual relationship, student turns out to be a fake who sets up paranormal activity in house being researched, when project is set to be shut down student shows back up and swears he didn't fake all activities and just to prove it runs upstairs where ghosts just happen to appear at the right time to try to tie up the lose ends of this horrible story. A few obvious twists here, add some there and you end up with a very bad film. Not recommended for the avid Barker fan, very disappointing.

Kill Theory (2009)
7/10
Not as bad as I expected.......*May contain Spoilers*
14 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I was pleasantly surprised with "Kill Theory". Obviously I read the reviews before watching and I had some doubts because I don't really care for your everyday teen slasher films. This one was better than your average slasher.

The beginning I feel was a little rushed but I understand they wanted to get the killers story quickly covered before moving onto bigger things. Unfortunately if you did not pay close attention to the first 10 min. then you completely missed the entire point of the end of the movie, which by the way was a GREAT twist that I did not see coming...very well planned out. I always enjoy movies that star Agnes Bruckner and wish that there were more of them, her character is likable. The other characters were well formed and relatable with your typical good guy, bad guy of the group being obvious to the viewer. Some creative death scenes, even though some are not so believable. I don't know of many situations that you can be shot in the stomach of all areas and still be able to knock someone to the ground, sit on them and strangle them for several minutes. But it is a movie and I get the gore effect. Script was good and actors did a good job of portraying the story.

Overall a good movie that I will watch again in the future, I would recommend it. :)

Not even sure this counts as Horror......May contain Spoilers!!!
13 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I have to start out by saying that if you rented this DVD, take it back immediately and DO NOT subject yourself to this travesty! I do not know how you can take something that was so good and just needed a little modern updating and destroy it so thoroughly. Either way that is exactly what has been done with this movie.

First off why was Robert Englund not in this movie? No one can replace him as Freddy and he is still an excellent actor (ex. "2001 Maniacs", "Hatchet" but please exclude "Zombie Strippers" from the list). This "new" Freddy is just laughable. Every time he spoke a line I cringed, not from fear mind you but from the raspy whine of a voice he used. Compared to the other actors he seemed rather short (height wise) to me and not so threatening. This remake should of been assigned to Wes Craven again or offered at least to Rob Zombie who has become very good at remaking the Halloween movies.

To sum it up and to voice my other complaints the movie and storyline was rushed, the characters were hollow and unrelatable and honestly I was rooting for them to die just so I wouldn't have to suffer the pain of this experience any longer. The only fresh face I saw and was happy to see her in a horror movie but saddened it had to be this disaster was Connie Britton. Even Kellan Lutz who I think is making his way through Hollywood nicely couldn't help this movie. So PLEASE for the love of all thats holy, if you are a serious horror movie genre fan and a fan of the originals like myself DO NOT subject yourself to this, I am still having my own nightmares about it.

Road Kill (2010)
3/10
Horrendous....
11 October 2010
I try to give every movie the benefit of the doubt....

This one is horrendous and was painful to watch. I had to force myself to watch it to the end and that was only because the actor looked good without a shirt. I'm not going to give a summary of great detail because it has already been done in the other reviews but I will honestly say it was extremely confusing with scenes that didn't even make sense or relate to the "story" to me. I liked Nina's character but thats about it. I will never recommend or both thinking about it again, it was that disappointing and is that forgettable!

If you are looking for a movie to play in the background while doing other things then this is it, but if you want a scary movie that is actually interesting, move on to something else.
