Murder in Mahim (2024)
Authentic LGBTQ Representation Shines in Groundbreaking Series
In a groundbreaking series that fearlessly tackles the critical issue of LGBTQ rights, the powerful performances of Vijay Raj and Ashutosh Rana shine through, elevating the narrative to new heights. This series stands out for its authentic portrayal of the LGBTQ community, steering clear of the stereotypical depictions often seen in other shows, such as "Made in Heaven," where gay characters are invariably associated with the upper echelons of society. The series delves deep into the struggles and triumphs of the LGBTQ community, shedding light on the challenges they face in a society that often fails to understand and accept them. Through the lens of its well-crafted characters, the show explores the complexities of identity, love, and the fight for equal rights. While the series excels in its storytelling and acting, the ending could have been more gripping. Nevertheless, this minor drawback does not detract from the series' overall significance and the vital message it conveys. In conclusion, this series is a must-watch for its bold and authentic representation of the LGBTQ community, made all the more compelling by the outstanding performances of Vijay Raj and Ashutosh Rana.
The Hunt for Veerappan (2023)
Gripping and captivating! Well done Netflix
Veerappan was India's Pablo Escobar. He challenged the state and honestly, in his prime was more powerful than state.
The Netflix series has done a great job to depict this story with full honesty without taking sides and exposed the brutality of Veerappan's techniques especially when it comes to killing police officers and STF.
It's a must watch to understand this dark chapter of South India's most wanted fugitive and appreciate the brave efforts of STF officers. The shows ends on a balanced note and leaves the viewer to decide whether the failure of our society to take care of the most poorest of its citizen are the reason for someone to become Veerappan.
Gulmohar (2023)
Watch it for Manoj Bajpayee and Sharmila Tagore
Powerhouse of actors, this movie must be watched to see what strong acting can do to a simple storyline. The movie touches through all the generations, boomers, millennials and GenZ. It also cuts across different strata of society and showcases their lives and emotions in a very relatable manner.
There's the new generation looking to get off their fledging startup, same sex relationship and pressure to fit in and a father who is struggling to understand his kids and his own identity being an adopted kid.
Spoiler Alert!
Do watch the encounter between Manoj Bajpayee and his biological father at a dhaba. It's the most intense and heart wrenching scene you will see after a lot of time.
Farzi (2023)
Watch it for last two episodes
The series is slow to start but Shahid's acting and Setupathi's intensity will blow you off in the last two episodes. I didn't like the cast at the start but they flourish as the series progresses and you will find it worth your time.
All the actors have been put in great performances but special mention goes to Firoz aka Bhuvan Arora for his Performance.
Raj & DK have put up another stunner; trust me it's a great weekend binge if you're ready to tolerate the buildup of the first 3-4 episodes.
And I'm quite stoked about the future seasons as Raj & DK will merge Family Man with this series. Watch out for Chelam sir!
Raat Akeli Hai (2020)
But for Nawaz, it's a forgettable movie!
The movie is so long and tedious that you lose the thrill of a thriller. Performances are stellar but plot, storyline and bad editing leaves you wanting for more. Net net, a better attempt by Netflix to stage a comeback compared to other series this year but not a must watch!
Lootcase (2020)
Hilarious comedy based on common man
It's non-preachy, hilarious and simple story backed by stellar performances by Kunal, Ranvir and the amazing Vijay Raaz (I decided to watch the movie after watching his hilarious nat geo comic lines in the trailer).
It's not really a thriller but the movie keeps you invested and laughing during all the moments.
It's a great watch, especially on a weekend after a tiring long week
