A collection of 'just short of'
24 October 2021
What could've been a cult horror collection ultimately is a let down. About three out of the ten tales are really worth watching. The other seven, not so much. Production value is quite weak, the stories aren't that interesting and aren't interwoven in the slightest. In the end, it's a boring portrayal of how not to do an anthology movie. Just watch Trick 'r Treat every year if you want to watch a good anthology film. You can't go wrong there.

The worst installment of the conjuring franchise
11 October 2019
First of all, let me state that the connection to the conjuring franchise is hardly visible, even with a microscope. It is so loosely connected that if you blink at the moment the connection is explained you might miss it. It's a shame the ever expanding conjuring universe is being diminished to an ordinary cash grab, when once it was a such a gem in a failing, hardly original industry. The movie itself, when viewed independently of aforementioned rant, is poor in it's own way. The movie is, quite frankly, just not scary. The pacing is off in so many scenes it's just painful to watch. The intention of long following shots is to induce tension, but it ultimately creates boredom. The decision making of the main characters, the jump scares, even the 'presence' itself are laughably bad. While watching the movie unfold, it feels like viewing a movie you've already seen ten, perhaps hundred times before because of it's unoriginality. The plot isn't any good while the direction is poorly executed. I'm at a loss trying to come up with reasons for James Wan to produce a movie like this, other than cashing in on some easy money. I hope in the future Wan will take up direction and story writing for one of the upcoming conjuring universe movies, but I'm afraid that's never going to happen.

Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Season 8, Episode 6

The Night King marched to prevent season 8, he unfortunately failed.
20 May 2019
I'm not even going to try to explain the disappointment I'm feeling right now. I have never felt so empty after finishing a series, let alone the best series I have ever watched (or thought to be watching) in my life. Eight years we have all spent on this show. Two years of waiting on how it would end. How you can utterly let down your entire fan base in one season after creating one of the best shows television has ever seen is beyond me.

I will try to forget the horrors season eight has given me and hopefully I will be able to pretend in some years the series ended when the Night King and his army crossed the wall.

Nothing original here
29 January 2017
This might be the worst horror movie I've ever come across and I've seen my fair share of bad horror flicks. There is nothing here you haven't seen before and is done far worse then anything I've ever seen before. The acting is horrendous, the decision making of the characters is ridiculous and feels really out of this world stupendous. There are some really cheesy, decades old horror clichés here which are totally misplaced. The dialogue is ridiculous and David, the main protagonist, is really the most dumbass, idiotic character there is. Seriously, save your time and your money, because this movie is really not worth it. I gave it 2 stars because the location they filmed it in was pretty neat, but that's all there is to it.

Sinister 2 (2015)

Disappointed with the sequel
14 January 2016
Let me first state that I really liked the original. Sure the original had some really easy jump scares, but I loved the super8 films, the plot and Ethan Hawkes acting.

The second one was, in my opinion, really unnecessary to begin with. The ending of the original was satisfying enough to not need a sequel. The scares in sinister 2 where way to few, way to easy (jump scares) and way to far apart. There was hardly any creepy atmosphere and the plot was nowhere to be found. Bughuul was nowhere as mysterious and scary as he was in the first movie which made it really disappointing.

The super8 films in sinister 2 where decent and pretty original though and sometimes hard to watch. But without any backstory to the families being murdered or any connection with them whatsoever, it made it hard to even care and put it in perspective with the story.

All in all, sinister 2 just tries to make money of it's original, but falls short in every way. I'd say just stick with the original and don't even bother with this one unless you really, really love the first one and want to see everything that has anything to do with it.

I liked it a lot
4 December 2015
First, let me mention that it being an animation movie doesn't necessarily mean that it is a children's movie. It's got some scary pieces and may not be suitable for everyone.

That being said, in my humble opinion, this movie is really great! Sure, it's story isn't really original and might be a bit cheesy, but it is really well done. The characters are lovable and do evolve during the story and teach us some very meaningful life lessons in a very playful manner.

The visuals are by far the best I've ever seen in any animated movie. Sometimes it was hard to tell if it was real world footage or animated. The art of animation has come a long way since the first Toy Story. The score was very jolly and uplifting and at moments very touching when it needed to be. The voice acting was excellent as expected. The movie has some similarities with the Lion King and Brother Bear and in the end, really touched me.

It definitely isn't Pixar's best, neither is it it's worst. Coming after Inside Out, which set the bar extremely high, it leaves people disappointed for obvious reasons. Try to look at this as a movie apart, without comparing it to other Pixar movies which are incomparable. Go see it in the cinema with an open mind and enjoy the fun, emotional and visual feast of The Good Dinosaur.

Utter crap
2 August 2015
I've seen my fair share of low budget horror movies and horror movies in general and a lot of the recent ones are really bad. But Charlie's Farm must be one of the worst I've ever seen.

If i had to sum up everything that was bad about this movie, the 1000 word maximum wouldn't be enough, so I'll just keep it short.

The movie is extremely boring, it takes about an hour of mindless wondering and some of the worst dialogue I've ever heard in a film before something even remotely exciting happens.

The characters are so dumb and so shallow that it isn't even fun to watch anymore. Low budget slashers tend to have generic and just plain lazy character decisions, but I haven't seen it as bad as this in a while. They have no back story, no depth and are constantly doing the opposite of believable.

The 'crazy bad guy' is really just the same as in every horror movie ever done and he first has to get his teddy bear back before he starts killing them and hunting them down?! What on earth was that?

I could go on and on with examples of why this movie is just utter crap, but I'll spare everyone the trouble. Please don't go see this movie, you will definitely be disappointed. The only good things about this movie were the great scenery and locations and there were some pretty cool kills in it. But other then that, it's not worth the watch. Just stay away from it.

So much potential, but ultimately very boring
20 March 2015
I had this one on my watchlist for quite some time now and decided to give it a spin this evening. It started of pretty good and I was hooked, but after 30 minutes or so the movie just kept dragging on and became very boring. I noticed that I wasn't closely paying attention because of this and was eager to turn it off. After a minute or 60, it became interesting again for a few minutes but then went back to it's dragging self.

The movie has some similarities to the Blair Witch Project, but doesn't even come close. A lot of the found footage material was so badly shot and 'damaged' that it wasn't even fun to watch anymore because you hardly could see anything.

The acting was decent at best and at some points not even convincing. The characters were dull and had very little backstory.

Without giving anything away, the big revelation is a big letdown and nothing is really explained about the 'how' and 'why', which makes it very frustrating.

Don't be fooled by the 5,5 rating which is pretty good for a horror movie on IMDb these days, it's definitely not worth wasting an hour and a half on. If you haven't seen the Blair Witch Project, you should definitely view that in favor of The Last Broadcast.

What a beautiful, emotional and funny ride
17 March 2015
This movie is absolutely amazing. I loved the first HTTYD and wasn't really eager to see the second instalment. As of late, most of the sequels in the animation genre were in no way able to live up to their predecessor, but HTTYD 2 totally surpassed it.

I felt such a strong connection to Hiccup and Toothless and their bond was really well told. All of the characters were more in dept and multilayered than in the previous HTTYD.

The story was believable and I liked how Hiccup was searching for what he was meant to be. It was far from predictable and kept you on the edge of your seat. The animation itself was gorgeous. The dragons were very original considering there are dozens or maybe hundred of different dragons in this film. The environment was absolutely beautiful and convincing.

The soundtrack was magnificent, both thrilling and emotional. Without spoiling anything I must say that the soundtrack is a great contributing factor in making me cry at a certain point in the movie.

When you are a fan of the first HTTYD definitely go see this one. When you want to be entertained, moved, touched and amazed, this is the animation movie to see. I would recommend this to anyone.

Jessabelle (2014)

Better than expected
8 January 2015
I found out about this movie through IMDb and decided to give it a spin. It had a lot more than I was initially expecting. It has got a couple of clichés that we have seen before, but besides that the movie definitely creeped me out. The house and it's setting give of a chilly vibe and works as a set. The movie creates a creepy atmosphere and doesn't rely on jump scares. The lead gives of a decent to good performance and is convincing in her role. Jessabelle is not really predictable, but when the ending explains how everything fits together there is a part of you that did know deep inside this was how it was gonna turn out. It doesn't disappoint in the end and it's surely is a movie that's worth the watch. Be sure to watch it alone in the dark so the atmosphere can creep you out at it's fullest.

Not a satisfying finale to the series
5 January 2015
Although being better than REC 3, REC 4 Apocalypse still is a big letdown. Of course, a major part in this being a letdown is the fact that it's not shot with a hand-held camera which made the first two instalments so great. What's the point in calling it a REC movie when the hand-held camera is missing? Next to that this movie just felt like some kind of action movie. It doesn't have the creepy atmosphere that the first and second movies had. There is a lot of action going on, with a lot of gore, but the creepiness is nowhere to be found. There were a couple of promising scenes that could have been scary, but failed to do so because they weren't executed right. The plot and dialogue in REC 4 is pretty shallow and highly predictable. What made the first movie so great is that it was different, something new. It gave a good mysterious background about what the virus was, but they didn't do anything with it in the third and fourth movie, not even continue it. There are a couple of good things about this movie and one of them is Manuela Velasco. Her acting is good and she gives a convincing performance. The second thing are the zombies. They look amazing, just like in the first two movies which is a big plus. I was really stoked for this movie and after the bad reviews on REC 3 I hoped they would go back to their success formula, but they didn't. It just didn't deliver and it couldn't live up to the high expectations/standards REC 1 & 2 had created. It was good on some ends, but it just had to many flaws.

Frozen (I) (2013)

Exceeded my high expectations
5 March 2014
I was expecting a lot from this new Disney flick, but it exceeded my expectations. Let's begin at the animation itself. Wow, just wow, it looked absolutely gorgeous. The style is very much like that of Tangled. They look so realistic and beautiful.

Apart from the amazing graphics there were some great songs. Of course there are songs, this is a musical. I see people complaining about the amount of songs and i must say there are a lot. But is that a bad thing in this case? The voices were very nice to listen to, the lyrics were very cleverly put together and the music was really nice. Disney really outdid themselves this time with the musical songs.

Humour, yes there was a lot of great humour. It was not over the top, nor was there too much. There were funny parts in the entire movie, suitable for adults and children. I even think some of the humour was to far fetched for children and only really understandable for adults which made it fun for all ages.

The plot was different from most of the Disney movies i've ever watched. It wasn't just a princess story, it was so much more. The characters were very well made and believable and also very likable. Olaf the snowman and Glen the reindeer were very fun and really added something to the story other than being just filler.

All in all, I enjoyed this movie very much and rate it very high on my 'best Disney movies' list. Disney really showed everyone what they are still capable of and that they continue to create really great animation films. I can't wait what they come up with for their next feature film. Frozen was one of those movies you can watch over and over and never get bored off.

Huge letdown
27 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I can honestly say I was really pumped for this movie after viewing the trailer. The trailer, however, makes it look like something it just isn't. Portrayed as a horror title about the devil, but merely comes of as a boring, stretched and far from scary flick.

The pace of the movie was just very slow. It felt like I was waiting for some climax that eventually didn't even come. Sure, slow pace can be beneficial for a movie, but there has to be some sort of development, either in the story or characters which is believable. The character played by Laura Caro was so ridiculous in here decision making it was just laughable. She saw things, heard things and even experienced things but never even thought about confronting her kids with them or even talk about them with her husband. I actually never understood why the policeman was in this movie, trying to get information about the couple if they didn't even do anything whit him in the end. Slap on some random nudity and a few gory scenes and you've got this movie.

At the end I didn't even care about anything happening to the main characters, they just felt really dull and so did the two children.

I was expecting a horror movie, with an interesting story, a scary atmosphere or at least some kinds of scares. Sadly, I was really disappointed. Don't led the trailer or the hype mislead you, it's not worth one and a half hour of your time.

Words cannot describe my disappointment
2 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I have seen all the previous Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies and I must say I had pretty high expectations for this one. I liked the original movie most like many other people do, but I thought the sequels were pretty decent as well. This movie however is just a steaming pile of crap. When we meet the four (later on five) teens we instantly know that four of them are just collateral. The characters are really superficial. Even more so than in your normal teen slasher movie which this Texas Chainsaw movie turned out to be.

I just can't stand how ridiculously stupid all of the characters were. Let me point out some examples: When a crazy chainsaw killer is on the loose you don't walk into it's lair as a policeman following a blood trail which is so huge and long that it looks like someone dragged a dying mammoth across the perimeter. Whenever this said policeman is going after this killer you don't ask him to give you 'visual' on his phone and make him call out everything he sees when he's supposed to be quiet. You don't stand there in the police office looking at the screen like you're viewing some kind of movie. You order him to stop and send 10 cars of backup to the house, heavily armed. When the crazy chainsaw killer murders all of your friends, but he appears to be your cousin who you don't even know, you are not going to befriend him. It's so lame they tried to make this into some kind of family reunion love story. It just doesn't make any sense.

And these are only some of the ridiculous examples I could come up with. There are so many plot holes and idiotic character decisions that made this film unwatchable. I normally don't demand much from a horror movie, but this is just laughable.

This movie is just an extremely ridiculous, on cheesy jump scares relying gore fest with horribly written characters and no significant plot at all. This movie is just a teen slasher, profiting from a very popular and highly appreciated name. I wouldn't recommend watching this movie, not even when you are a huge Texas Chainsaw fan. You will definitely be disappointed by this pathetic so-called movie.

Disturbing to say the least
11 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I was directed here after viewing the The Poughkeepsie Tapes since this was kind of similar to it. I must say, the last 22 minutes were absolutely disturbing.

I found that the director made pretty clear that the online (chat) world is not always what you think it is. People can make them self out to be whoever they want without anyone ever knowing. It kept me on edge thinking that something similar has happened in real life as well and the director did a pretty good job portraying it as something real.

Rachel Quinn did a good job playing the pretty, popular and naive girl Megan who found herself chatting with a pedophile killer. I must say her acting came really close to realism. Amber Perkins on the contrary wasn't very believable in my opinion until the point she got abducted. Her screams and cries for help gave me the chills until the very end.

Making this a found footage film added to it's value in different ways. It really felt like you were watching some crazy molester and killer whose identity remained unknown until the end. Keeping him unknown makes you feel like everyone could be him, from your average Joe you see walking on the street each day to some kind of hermit who everyone expects to be some kind of maniac. They way the killer talks while chatting with Megan and the calm he keeps while he does such horrible things is beyond me.

The pictures of Megan that were shown and the last 22 minutes of the movie were totally disturbing. It was sickening and engrossing but probably pretty close to reality. It makes us viewers find out there are really people this sick on this planet and you don't have to live in the middle of nowhere to get caught up with someone like that.

To me it delivered what it was supposed to do and freaked me out just thinking about something like this happening in real life.

Overall i would give this one a 3.5 out of 5.

Why?!
20 August 2012
I'm really disappointed with what they did to the REC franchise. I really loved the first installment of the series which was one of the most scary horror movies i've seen in quite some time. The second movie of the series was quite good as well. There was a pretty good story and i fell in love with the shaky camera. When i saw they were going to create a third (and even a fourth) movie i was thrilled. I just finished watching it and i can't recommend this to anyone. The storyline of the first two movies is completely gone. There is no progression at all and it just feels like a stand alone horror movie. It doesn't contain any scares and you aren't startled watching it, it looks more like an action horror comedy which is over exaggerated on so many levels. And then the shaky cam, one of the things the REC series was so famous for, is gone as well. The first 20 minutes does contain the shaky cam but after that it's just filmed as any regular movie. People who loved the original two films should stay away from this one. I guess you could just skip to the fourth movie since there is no story telling here. You will be disappointed!

Evil Dead II (1987)
4/10
Definitely not as good as the first one.
15 May 2012
I must say that I liked the first Evil Dead. It was original, fun to watch and had some really inventive parts in it. The second part of the franchise was just a cheap sequel/remake of the first one which just couldn't beat is predecessor in any way. A lot of the second movie looked like it was ripped out of the first movie and refurbished. Some of the scenes were almost exactly the same and made me feel like I was looking at the first one again.

There is hardly any story to be found in this one. 'The book of the dead is found again and by listening to the tape recorder, the Evil is released on earth and tries to murder everyone brutally.' Where have we heard that one before right? All of the actors are very bad and I was really annoyed about how naive they were. The movie was predictable in many ways and even tough a lot of horrors have naive main characters this one was just ridiculous. They were running all over the place and there was no plan whatsoever. There was some hysterical shouting overall, but little emotion was showed by any of the main characters.

There are only a few things I can praise this movie for: At first there are the great props, costumes and make-up. They look really great and make the movie watchable. People who have watched the first Evil Dead will know what i'm talking about. Second there is great camera work in this one, comparable to the first movie. It's very recognizable and gives an aery touch to the movie.

If you've seen the first Evil Dead and are looking for a lot of the same then i suppose you should check this one out. Other then that i'd recommend you to stay away from it. I can see how people who liked the first one will like this one as well, but for me it just didn't bring anything new to the table. Overall, i was really disappointed by Evil Dead II and am definitely not thinking about seeing the third installment.

Not Bad, Not Bad.
27 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
At first, i wasn't sure what to expect. After seeing the first movie i was hoping that this one would bring some more tension instead of the spare moments that we had in the first Paranormal Activity.

Despite more cameras and different angles i had a feeling that it didn't create as much tension as a hand held camera. It felt like you had way more overview and could see everything better. Of course there are the usual door slamming and that kind of stuff but the first 40-50 minutes nothing really exciting happens.

After those minutes of just waiting for something to happen the daughter gets the hand held camera and just goes walking around with it which increases the tension drastically.

The basement scene is actually a little bit of a rip off from REC 2 in my opinion with a little flair of The Blair Witch Project. This scene was perhaps one of the worst in the movie. It had much potential but didn't really feel right which was really disappointing.

All in all this movie had some tension and some good scares but nothing really special.

In My Sleep (2010)

Brilliant plot
15 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this movie a moment ago and i didn't expect it to be this good. At first hand i was suspecting some B-film with B-actors but it turned out to be the opposite.

The plot was very well written and although you constantly think you know what happened just turns out to be completely wrong. It is very impressive that they made it look like some particular way that you couldn't resist suspecting Marcus for the murders. All the things in the movie were coherent even the little things, like the trip count in his car, which is connected to the murder of Ann. Those details made the movie very strong and even though you constantly suppose Marcus is the murderer, the motives Justin has at the end of the movie to kill Ann and set up Marcus are very convincing and well thought-out.

I also think that Philip Winchester did very well and did a great job in his role as the confused sleep walker who isn't sure about anything anymore.

All in all, i was really satisfied after watching this movie.
