I have read all the foundation books and yes some of the stuff in the books are outdated. Although the books cover a few thousand years of whole civilizations being ruled by the few, it shows the consequences of the actions of those few. Even after they believe they have shored up every angle. Something different comes up. Watching it unfold on the screen instead of my imagination is something I have been waiting for, for almost 30 years.
For me, it is a little scary to watch at times because it mimics the times today, but not in tech but human nature. The math they discuss is a lot like quantitative math, but with outliers changing a predetermined future. I don't want to go too far into what I think. Visually it is great.
The Sy-fy channel did not want to do this (even though they did want to do it) because it was very expensive. But if there are 60 more seasons (hopefully longer than 10 episodes)and spin-offs from this, possibly a few movies, I will be there. :)
