Somehow the dinosaurs were the worst part
I'm a big Jurassic Park fan, and was disappointed by the latest two Jurassic Park movies so I was hopeful about this film. Unfortunately, it was a very predictable action movie with a few jump scares and little more to the dinosaurs than them being the big bad. They're all just unthinking monsters that either exist to eat them or be eaten by the other dinos. It had fun moments between the leads, but required a lot more suspension of disbelief than it earned. The various perils they faced never felt that threatening because you knew the characters had to survive to keep the plot going, and the means by which they survived were never that interesting or inventive. The very small cast all did a good job with what they had to work with, and the limited communication abilities between the leads was great in concept but under utilized. Adam Driver's character is repeatedly seriously injured, and ends up with an infection, but the infection is only ever shown once then not brought up again.
All in all, disappointing and boring film. Could have been a lot better.
Every Time a Bell Rings (2021)
Sweet Christmas fluff
I ever go in with high expectations for Hallmark movies. They're just fun to have on in the background. It was everything I needed in a movie while folding my laundry today.
Our Souls at Night (2017)
A quiet movie for a quiet evening
I'm definitely not within the target audience, but the movie made for a nice watch at a quiet evening at my parents' house. It was sweet watching their relationship progress throughout the movie, and the leads were completely believable in their rolls.
My biggest complaint was in the casting of Addie's son. I'm sure the man is a perfectly fine actor, but his American accent needs a lot of work. It was instantly noticeable that it wasn't his natural accent, and was a distraction in all his scenes.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Seems like a lot of the low raters have an agenda
I don't know why this movie got so many low ratings. I went and saw it today with my dad and we both loved it. It had us laughing out loud over and over again. He felt that the girl power message was a little overdone and that it felt like Marvel was trying to play catch up with Wonder Woman, but it didn't come across as too heavy handed to me.
The movie tied in nicely with the MCU and it was nice to see some familiar faces. I enjoyed the movie so much I'd honestly go see it again tomorrow. Will definitely be buying it when it comes out.
Black Panther (2018)
Solid, exciting Marvel movie
I don't write many reviews, but a lot of the reviews I saw on here for this movie seemed to have an agenda so I decided to share a review that has none.
I went in having heard nothing but good things about the movie, and left having thoroughly enjoyed it. The action was solid, exciting. The plot was fairly standard, but had some moments I did not expect, though nothing revolutionary. The villain was strong, compelling and most importantly threatening. The costumes were a wonderful mix of traditional and tribal African clothes blended seamlessly with modern western clothes. They were bright and colorful, and just generally visually appealing. The same goes for Wakanda itself. Michael B. Jordan and Sterling K. Brown both delivered fantastic performances and I can see why Brown has been winning so many awards.
There were some parts that sort of dragged, but really that was my biggest complaint. Overall it was exciting and fun, with some wonderful comedic moments.
I think the message of the film, that we are stronger and better together than we are apart, is timeless. But perhaps applicable now more than ever.
Mongo Wrestling Alliance (2011)
Absolutely unwatchable
I've tried watching this show on multiple occasions, but I've never managed to get through an entire episode. I've never been a wrestling fan, but I thought the show might be worth a few chuckles. I was seriously disappointed. It's so bad that when the show comes on, instead of muting it or changing the channel (nothing else decent is on that late anyway), I pause the DVR so I can just fast forward through it. The characters are all grotesque in appearance, which wouldn't be so bad if the show had some redeeming qualities. Adult Swim shows are noted for their bizarre sense of humor, this show has none of that. The so called humor, if it's there at all, is low-brow and hasn't even gotten me to grin once. Some shows are funny stupid (Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Squidbillies etc.) this show is really just stupid stupid. Why MWA is still on the air is beyond me. Steer clear of this show, and maybe Adult Swim will wise up and put something watchable on the air.
