MegaFault (2009)
Biggest Disaster of all Disaster Movies
I found this movie on Blu-Ray at a great price and thought I could not go wrong buying it. I was wrong. Most of what is presented is scientifically implausible to the point of distraction. The rest is just plain ridiculous:
- they sent stealth fighters to intercept a helicopter, really?
- they look at a fault rupture and declare, "That was a 7.0."
The actors performed well considering an underwhelming script and poor concept. As far as the writer and producer go, they should be exiled and deported for so thoroughly wasting our time.
The only reason to keep this film in production is so that film students will know what they should NOT do.
All Hell Broke Loose (2009)
Horribly Disappointing
Combine a western and David Carradine and you would think you could not lose but this film actually manages to disappoint.
Starting with the video, there is something terribly wrong. It looks like a failed class project at a film school. The transition between shots is rough and occasionally mistimed. The quality itself gives the appearance that main characters were filmed in front of a projection screen rather than on scene.
The audio is horrible. It sounds as if the entire audio track was recorded in a studio and then dubbed onto the film. It does not always appear to coincide with the mouth movements of the actors. The background sounds seem to be missing and just do not sound natural.
The acting is horrible with some characters appearing to simply be reading for a part.
I actually bought the used Blu-Ray for $1.34 thinking I could not lose. I was wrong.
Marihuana (1936)
Worth a Look
Not badly made for a low budget film of 1936. This is not propaganda, as others have termed it, but it actually has a plot and even a bit of a twist. Somewhat "shocking" for a film of this era, it has sex, nudity, unwanted pregnancy, and alcohol/drug abuse. Interestingly, this film is not about substance abuse in the ghetto but in more affluent households.
The plot follows a purported teenager (although she is the oldest looking teenager I have ever seen in film) as she progresses from drinking to marijuana use, to heroin use. The symptoms of narcotic use are either exaggerated or ignored (with marijuana use people giggle non-stop while with heroin use there is no depressant effect) but the process of progressing from alcohol and marijuana to serious drug use and even drug dealing is accurate to this day.
Contrary to the title, don't expect it to be about marijuana, but about drug use in general and you will enjoy it.
