I sogni del signor Rossi (1977)
A childhood obsesscion
"Mr. Rossi's Dreams" (English title)was my favorite movie to watch when I was little. All about a little man who goes on interesting dream journies with his talking dog (Harold I believe his name was). The scene that sticks out in my head the most is the space scene with the song "Tete" (Great for it's sing along purposes). If you ever find this movie then rent or buy it as quickly as you can. People of all ages will get a kick out of it. However my copy died one snow day many years ago and I have still yet to find a replacement.
The St. Francisville Experiment (2000)
A "Real" Scare
**Possible Spoiler***
This film is very much in the same genre of films as The Blair Witch Project. It's a "reality" horror film. You are presented with a group of college students being placed into a horror movie type atmosphere and reacting in as real a way as possible. At first glance yes this seems lie a BWP rip off but there are less nauseating shakey cameras and absolutely NO completely black shots. This means instead of hearing "Oh my god what was that!" You see what "that" was and get freaked out just as much as the students in the film. St. Francisville is a legitimately scary film. It had me spooked for several days and it took me up till my fourth time watching it to no longer dread looking into a mirror. The cast is varied. Basically you have a Scooby Doo set of characters. There's the head strong leader who comes off as a jerk way too much (Paul), there's the semi-vacant yet cute peppy girl who gets up close with a bug in a great gross out scene (Ryan), there's the smart know it all who is a psychic and the brunt of the group and house's scorn (Madison), and then there is the loveable and hilarious goof ball who "loves the Ghosts" (Tim). All that is missing is a dog (though there is a cat at one point) and a guy in a rubber mask. Most of the shots are taken from the film student of the group, Tim's camera. Since he is the film student he has the best control and sets up some really good shots. All the other character's use the cameras at one point or another (Ryan by far uses it the worst) but Tim actually seems like he knows what he is doing (unlike the three "film" students in BWP). All in all this is a good film, it comes off as hookey at some points (like the Cat scene) but it has real shook scares and a continuous feeling of unease. This is definitely worth watching more than once, and not recommended to be watched alone.
