Dog Sweat (2010)

Dramatic and funny film
14 July 2010
I saw this film at the Los Angeles Film Festival. It is about young people in Iran who want to live free. Wow, totally different from what I was expecting.

Iranian youth are crazy and vibrant.

Film has a couple of story lines - about a women who wants to be a singer, a gay guy who is pressured to marry, a couple looking for a place to make out and a guy who is a big drinker who kinda goes off the deep end.

The film was really enjoyable, people were into it and were laughing a lot in the funny parts. I saw the Q&A afterward - I can't believe this film was made in Iran! It makes it even more impressive! My only complaint is that it was sometimes hard to tell who is who, though you get over that in about fifteen minutes.

Great film that mixes humor and cultural critique

I went into this film not knowing much about it. After I saw it, I thought, this reminds me a lot of Friends with Money in that it is a very perceptive critique of society that is totally enjoyable. Lo and behold, it is by the same director.

Fine ensemble cast. Usually these type of films with multiple stories don't pay off, but this one works well as a whole.

It is about a couple who buys furniture from recently deceased people and sell them in their upscale boutique for higher prices. Much of the story revolves around the main character's feeling of guilt.

Great film, I would recommend it!
