ATF (1999)
shameful gun control propaganda
it only gets a rating of 2 because the production value is OK. directing and editing are just poor. the sound could be better also. there is little real drama, even for a lifetime TV production. but what really concerns me is the gun control propaganda. for example serial numbers would not be put on ghost guns, but they appear here. i suppose those who support gun control will appreciate the movie and focus on what little human relationship drama there is in the plot. oh, and the main cast is better than this. i am surprised that their agents were not able to shelve this title. all the players have done much better work.
In Time (2011)
see it for the concept...
see it for the concepts, not for the good but contrived action or the hot young actors. i spent all the hours since seeing this film yesterday thinking about the missing parts, wishing they were all there. all films are a product of collaboration and compromise. after all, a fall action flick should not be too philosophical or last much more than 90 minutes and both would have been required to make it the way i would have liked to see it. maybe in the uncut or directors cut...not going to happen. this film is worth seeing in either case. see it, and think about it. 'life' time as the currency. the 'rich' sucking from the poor lower class 'time zones'. a new robin hood. it's classic and not far from where we are now. something the occupy wall street people should appreciate as well. on a related film, 'margin call', jeremy irons says it all...'it's all made up anyway', a contrivance of man. (in reference to the economy and money itself).
Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011)
a must see
a few weeks ago i rented 'fountainhead'. it had been years since i had seen it, long before i became sort of a libertarian. i was looking forward to seeing 'atlas shrugged'. i am sure others will write of it's production value and many other aspects of making the film. needless to say this is not the typical Hollywood or even indy film. it is libertarian conservative and capitalistic. it is the anti message that people have not seen in decades. after seeing it i was amazed at the relevance to today. it makes me want to read the entire ~1700 page book.
i was surprised by the actors selected. i think they all did a fine job of depicting their characters. i read of many attempt to make this movie in the past. after all hoolywood loves to make movies out of best sellers. i also read that the lead actress part was prized by many big name starts. in the end even lionsgate, known for edgy productions, could not even secure a mini-series deal.
