Scream (2022)
Enjoyable but with one huge problem
Although I very much enjoy the Scream movies, I've never considered them "horror". Disgruntled, entitled high school students seeking fame and revenge are not "horror" and not very scary, in my opinion. I like my horror villiains to be insane, disfigured and possibly supernatural. Anyway, that's not the point. Scream 2022 is fun, well-made and satisfying. With one big problem. The whole theme of EVERY Scream movie is that the characters follow "rules" of horror and in this movie they are not only following the rules of horror movies in general, but of the previous eight "Stab" movies. If there are now eight "Stab" movies and five "Scream" movies then at this point it should be VERY common knowledge to the killers that their fatal mistake in EVERY Stab/Scream movie is unmasking themselves and summarizing their motives and plans to their final "victims". This inevitably leads to their demise in EVERY SINGLE MOVIE. So why has NOT doing that NOT become a "rule" for the killers in the Stab/Scream franchise? It seems the killers should clearly know by now that the only way they can succeed is to NOT reveal their identities and motives to the movies' heroes at the end. In theory, the characters are supposed to be getting smarter and more horror/Stab/Scream-savvy with every movie and yet the killers ALWAYS die for the EXACT same reason in every Scream movie.
Debris (2021)
Unique and engaging
Knowing this was canceled I decided to watch it anyway because I love good SciFi. I found it to be an extremely fun, unique and thought-provoking show with great writing and acting. Some have "complained" that the main characters were lacking an emotional "drive" that kept them connected to their work (i.e. Mulder witnessing his sister's abduction), however that didn't bother me at all, I think the plot and the stories were excellent enough to carry the show. And as the season moved on, there were in fact see some more emotional entanglements with the characters. A truly enjoyable and intriguing show with great characters that should have been given a chance to grow.
At Home with Amy Sedaris (2017)
Love it!
You either "get" Amy's humor or you don't. If you don't, you probably won't like this show. If you do, you'll think it's hilarious as I do. Also many satisfying nods to Strangers With Candy. I was laughing so hard on the first episode I had to re-watch it because I missed so much.
Idiocracy (2006)
Frikkin' Hilarious
Thank God for Blockbuster.com or I would have never found this movie. Now it's in my Top 5 of all time. I laughed so hard I was screaming. It's just perfect. I only wish it was longer. It seems that most movies I end up loving are ones I have to search for because they are never ones that are readily available (or even advertised for that matter). For those of you who like out of the ordinary films, check out "Equilibrium" (sci-fi), "Happiness" (dark comedy) and "Palindromes" (dark comedy). But considering I am posting here on a movie that is almost 2 years old, chances are no one will ever read this. If you are reading this then I guess you were slow to find this masterpiece too!
Strangers with Candy (2005)
Hilarious.
I FINALLY got to see this movie after waiting 2 years and missing the damn Q&A with Amy and Paul last month at the Arclight. Anyway, don't listen to anything bad anyone says about this movie --it's frikkin' hysterical. I mean sure they bit a few (very few) lines and scenarios from the series and there was no Orlando and there were different actors playing the Dad and Derrick but WHO CARES!!! Just go with it and you will have a blast. The subversive humor, nonsensical moments and flawless timing that made the show a hit are all 1000% intact in this film. If you loved the show and you hate the movie I couldn't begin to imagine why. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that I missed half the jokes because I was laughing so hard at the ones right before them!
