"Boy Kills World" was such a letdown. The movie had the incredible talent of H. Jon Benjamin, yet he was woefully underutilized. This film, which billed itself as an action-comedy, ended up being a disjointed mess with terrible humor. It feels like they made an action movie that wasn't good enough and then added Benjamin as an afterthought, hoping he could salvage it.
The plot is typical and overdone: a revenge story. While Bill Skarsgård excels in any role he takes on, even he couldn't save this film. Jessica Rothe's performance was fine, but I would have preferred a female lead with more muscle and toughness to match the intense action scenes. The humor was on the very low side, barely evoking a chuckle throughout.
The pacing was another issue, with about 30 minutes of unnecessary scenes that only served to bloat the runtime. There were far too many adversaries for the protagonist to confront, making the story feel cluttered and unfocused.
I went in expecting an exciting action-comedy but was left with an unbalanced film heavy on action and lacking in genuine comedic moments. Overall, "Boy Kills World" failed to deliver on its promise and wasted the potential of its talented cast.
