Disappointing and Unbalanced: "Boy Kills World" Falls Short
25 May 2024
"Boy Kills World" was such a letdown. The movie had the incredible talent of H. Jon Benjamin, yet he was woefully underutilized. This film, which billed itself as an action-comedy, ended up being a disjointed mess with terrible humor. It feels like they made an action movie that wasn't good enough and then added Benjamin as an afterthought, hoping he could salvage it.

The plot is typical and overdone: a revenge story. While Bill Skarsgård excels in any role he takes on, even he couldn't save this film. Jessica Rothe's performance was fine, but I would have preferred a female lead with more muscle and toughness to match the intense action scenes. The humor was on the very low side, barely evoking a chuckle throughout.

The pacing was another issue, with about 30 minutes of unnecessary scenes that only served to bloat the runtime. There were far too many adversaries for the protagonist to confront, making the story feel cluttered and unfocused.

I went in expecting an exciting action-comedy but was left with an unbalanced film heavy on action and lacking in genuine comedic moments. Overall, "Boy Kills World" failed to deliver on its promise and wasted the potential of its talented cast.

The Toybox (2018)
4/10
There is nothing of interest in this Toolbox
27 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
"The ToyBox," starring Denise Richards, is a bewildering concoction of horror clichés and disjointed storytelling that falls painfully short of the mark. In what could only be described as an unholy union between the visceral terror of "The Hills Have Eyes" and the predictable tropes of every evil ghost movie ever made, this film meanders through a plot so thin it's practically translucent. The acting leaves much to be desired, with performances that range from unconvincing to comically indifferent, especially in moments that should have been heart-wrenching. The lack of character development is glaring; viewers are given no backstories, making it difficult to care about the characters or understand their motivations.

One of the movie's most laughable aspects is the characters' reactions (or lack thereof) to the loss of family members, which is portrayed with such a bewildering lack of emotion it borders on the absurd. Moreover, the film's conclusion, suggesting that damaging the vehicle would somehow vanquish the antagonist, feels like a desperate grasp at originality that falls flat. There are a few surprises along the way, but they are too sparse and too insubstantial to salvage the film from its overall mediocrity.

As I watched the predictable sequence of poor decisions made by the characters, I couldn't help but think, "There is nothing of interest in this Toolbox." "The ToyBox" attempts to blend various elements of horror but ends up delivering a forgettable experience that's neither innovative nor entertaining. In a genre that thrives on innovation and the ability to elicit genuine fear, this movie stands as a testament to missed opportunities and unfulfilled potential, earning it a disappointing 4/10 stars.

The Iron Claw (2023)

A Missed Opportunity: The Iron Claw (2023) Review
14 February 2024
Rating: 6/10

"The Iron Claw," a cinematic portrayal of the legendary wrestling dynasty, promised to bring the visceral thrill of wrestling and the complex dynamics of the Von Erich family to the big screen. However, despite its ambitious premise, the film struggles to engage, delivering a viewing experience that, unfortunately, mirrors the slow and predictable nature of a poorly choreographed wrestling match rather than the electric atmosphere of a live event.

The narrative pace is the film's primary downfall. What should have been a gripping tale of triumph, tragedy, and the unbreakable bonds of family instead unfolds in a manner that can only be described as languid. The wrestling scenes, which one might expect to be the heart-pounding core of the film, are inexplicably devoid of excitement or tension. Instead of serving as dynamic high points, they contribute to a sense of monotony, failing to energize the story or the viewer.

Despite these shortcomings, it's important to acknowledge the commendable efforts of the cast. Tasked with bringing complex, real-life figures to life, the actors deliver performances that resonate with sincerity and depth. It's clear that they have poured their hearts into these roles, skillfully navigating the script's limitations to find moments of genuine emotion. Yet, the script does them no favors, offering little in the way of character development or narrative engagement. The characters, including the protagonist, are written with a surprising lack of depth, leaving audiences struggling to form any emotional connection with them. The main character, in particular, is disappointingly one-dimensional, a surprising misstep in a story that hinges on the audience's investment in his journey.

One can't help but feel that "The Iron Claw" represents a missed opportunity. The real-life saga of the Von Erich family is ripe with drama, passion, and tragedy, elements that, if properly harnessed, could have resulted in a compelling cinematic experience. Instead, the film's failure to capture the essence of its subjects or the excitement of wrestling makes it a lackluster addition to the sports drama genre.

For those intrigued by the legend of the Von Erich family, this film may offer a cursory introduction. However, viewers seeking a deep dive into the heart and soul of professional wrestling, or a nuanced exploration of one of its most storied families, are likely to find "The Iron Claw" wanting. In this case, turning to a documentary on the real brothers might prove to be a more fulfilling and enlightening experience. In the end, "The Iron Claw" scores a 6/10 for its performance-driven moments and the sheer effort of its cast, but it falls short of capturing the true spirit and legacy of its subjects.

Lady Ballers (2023)
4/10
Review of "Lady Ballers" (IMDb: Lady Ballers) - Rating: 4/10
6 December 2023
"Lady Ballers" was a film I approached with some anticipation, given its intriguing premise. However, I found it to be disappointingly shallow and pedantic. The acting across the board was underwhelming, contributing to the film's overall lack of depth and engagement.

A critical drawback of the movie was its humor, or the lack thereof. The jokes felt forced and failed to elicit the intended laughter, detracting from the viewing experience. This issue could partly be attributed to the script, which seemed to need more refinement. The potential for a successful comedy was there, but it required a sharper and more experienced comedic writer to bring it to life.

The film appeared to serve more as a vehicle for promoting Jeremy Boreing's businesses than as a piece of entertainment. This focus undermined the story's authenticity and the characters' relatability.

Tyler Fischer's presence in the film was a lone bright spot. His natural comedic talent shone through, despite the limitations of his role. Fischer's performance gives me hope for his future projects, as he clearly has the potential to excel with better material.

In conclusion, "Lady Ballers" misses the mark in several key areas, making it a less than satisfying watch. The concept was promising but was let down by lackluster execution and a script in need of a few more rewrites. It's a 4 out of 10 for me, primarily saved from a lower score by Fischer's brief moments of comedic relief.

A Delightfully Entertaining Romp with Comedy's Rising Stars
19 November 2023
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain" is a fresh breath of comedic air, showcasing the undeniable charm and hilarity of its leads, the trio who've become the best part of SNL. Watching these three 'nitwits' navigate through the shenanigans of Foggy Mountain is like a joyride with old friends - unpolished but genuinely fun.

The film's plot might not be the thickest, but what it lacks in narrative complexity, it more than makes up for with its light-hearted spirit and some genuinely funny moments that will have you chuckling. It's a reminder that not all movies need to be Oscar contenders to be thoroughly enjoyable.

While the acting chops of our beloved trio and Conan might not be ready for Broadway, their authentic chemistry and natural comedic timing are undeniable. They bring an endearing rawness to the screen that is both refreshing and entertaining.

For their first big-screen venture, "Please Don't Destroy" has hit a sweet spot. It's a film that doesn't take itself too seriously, inviting the audience to join in on the fun. This might be a 5/10 in the conventional cinematic scoring, but in terms of enjoyment and sheer entertainment value, it's a solid 5-star experience.

In summary, if you're looking for a film that's a fun escape with some good laughs and likable characters, "The Treasure of Foggy Mountain" is a treasure indeed. It's a promising debut for a trio that we're all excited to see more from in the future.

A Disappointing Dive into Horror
30 October 2023
Suitable Flesh (2023), directed by Joe Lynch, ventured into the realms of horror and mystery thriller but ended up delivering a confusing and uninspiring narrative. The movie, drawn from H. P. Lovecraft's short story "The Thing on the Doorstep," fails to capture the eerie essence of Lovecraftian horror.

The plot unfolds around a psychiatrist who becomes obsessed with one of her young patients, later discovering that he's linked to an ancient curse. Despite the intriguing premise, the storyline descends into a muddled mess as it progresses.

A major downside was the acting, which was woefully inadequate from the entire cast, including Heather Graham and Judah Lewis. The performances lacked depth and authenticity, rendering the characters unrelatable and the plot more confusing.

The inclusion of four unnecessary sex scenes added nothing to the plot and felt like a desperate attempt to add some flair to an otherwise dull narrative. These scenes were distasteful and detracted from the already scant storyline.

The gore, which could have been a redeeming factor, was neither shocking nor well-executed. The scenes intended to be horrifying were rather bland, failing to evoke the desired reactions from the audience.

The runtime of 1h 40m felt much longer due to the lack of engaging content and coherent storytelling. The film's attempt to be "campy and creepy" was poorly executed, as noted by Rotten Tomatoes.

Overall, "Suitable Flesh" is a disappointing venture into horror that fails to entertain or scare, garnering a generous 4 stars for the occasional decent cinematography and a few well-done special effects. The movie is a forgettable addition to the 2023 horror genre, lacking the spine-chilling essence that horror enthusiasts crave.

Strays (2023)
6/10
A Canine-Centric Crude Comedy with a Familiar Bark
14 October 2023
"Strays," a crude comedy that marries canine charm with humor that often ventures into raunchy territories, fetches a mixed bag of emotions. As someone with a soft spot for dogs, particularly Boston Terriers, and a penchant for unrefined humor, I found myself at home with the movie's premise. The cast is competent, although Will Ferrel's antics are beginning to wear thin. The plot, albeit recycled, holds its own and manages to steer clear of being utterly predictable.

The movie shines with a commendable R rating, attributed to its pervasive language, sexual content, and a dab of drug use, which accentuates the humor but may alienate the faint of heart or those not amused by crudeness. The highlight of "Strays" for me was an uproarious scene involving a mail carrier chase, a delightful nod to the age-old feud between dogs and postal workers.

One cannot help but admire the authenticity brought about by using real dogs for 95% of the film. It's a touch that not only appeals to dog lovers but also adds a layer of realism often missing in films of this genre. However, a glaring inconsistency caught my eye - despite being strays, Reggie and his furry companions appear suspiciously clean and well-groomed, slightly muddying the 'stray' narrative.

The film has its heart in the right place, and the humor hits more than misses. Yet, a sense of déjà vu pervades due to a rehashed plot and the overused persona of Will Ferrel. My love for dogs and crude humor led me to "Strays," but a somewhat stale narrative holds it back from being a memorable romp. Consequently, it fetches a 6/10 from me, albeit with a wagging tail for its canine stars and the chuckles it delivers.

The Flash (I) (2023)
7/10
A Flash of Brilliance Marred by Mediocre CGI
30 July 2023
The Flash (2023)" is a film that brings together an interesting mix of old and new, with Ezra Miller and Michael Keaton delivering commendable performances. Miller, reprising his role as the Flash, brings a certain charm to the character, while Keaton's return as Batman is a nostalgic treat for fans of the older Batman films.

The plot is engaging enough, revolving around Barry Allen using his super speed to change the past in an attempt to save his family. However, this creates a world without superheroes, forcing him to race for his life to save the future. While the storyline is intriguing, the script could have been tightened up to provide a more cohesive narrative.

Unfortunately, the film is let down by the performance of the actress who played Supergirl. Her lack of facial expressions and robotic demeanor made her performance feel more akin to an AI NPC rather than a dynamic superhero.

The biggest letdown, however, was the CGI. For a film that relies heavily on special effects, the quality of the CGI was surprisingly poor. The facial quality of the special guest stars was particularly disappointing, and the overall quality of the CGI was subpar, to say the least.

Despite these drawbacks, "The Flash (2023)" manages to be a better film than it has any right to be. The performances of Miller and Keaton, coupled with an engaging plot, make it a worthwhile watch for fans of the superhero genre. However, the poor CGI and lackluster performance from Supergirl prevent it from reaching its full potential.

Overall, I would give "The Flash (2023)" a 7 out of 10. It's a film that has its moments of brilliance, but is ultimately let down by subpar CGI and inconsistent performances.

Shark-Infested Silliness: A Deep Dive into 'The Black Demon
29 June 2023
"The Black Demon" (2023), directed by Adrian Grunberg and written by Carlos Cisco and Boise Esquerra, is a unique concoction of horror, sci-fi, and thriller genres that leaves you torn between laughter and frustration. While I would like to say that the film is a roller coaster ride of emotions, it's more accurate to say that it's like being on a merry-go-round that somehow manages to go off the rails. Its IMDb rating of 3.6/10 is almost generous, but I will go slightly lower and give it a 3/10, primarily for its unintentional comedic elements.

The film centres on a family stranded on a crumbling rig in Baja, battling a vengeful megalodon shark. Its story is based on the legend of the 'Black Demon,' a creature that has supposedly claimed countless lives and even attacked whales around Baja California, according to local fishermen. The premise seems promising; however, the execution is where the film really flounders.

The lead actors, Omar Chaparro, Bolivar Sanchez, and Carlos Solórzano, struggle to keep the plot afloat amidst a sea of clichés and predictable tropes. Yet, their performances are so earnest that it becomes almost endearing. From Chaparro's overzealous sidekick role to Solórzano's portrayal of 'Tommy', their performances are reminiscent of a high school drama production, which ironically adds to the charm of the movie.

"The Black Demon" is rife with plot holes and logical fallacies that you could drive a shark through. However, it is these very flaws that make the film so unexpectedly hilarious. Scenes that are meant to be terrifying instead come across as comical due to the over-the-top acting, subpar special effects, and dialogue that can sometimes be laughably bad. As Paul, one of the characters, aptly puts it, "I know a big-ass shark when I see one".

The visual effects are nothing short of a spectacle, and not in the good way. The shark, which should be the centerpiece of the horror, ends up looking like a low-budget CGI experiment gone wrong. Its movements are unnatural and robotic, making it more of a source of amusement rather than fear.

The sound design and soundtrack do nothing to salvage the sinking ship. The background score seems to be on a loop of generic horror music that does little to build tension or evoke any real emotion.

Yet, despite its many shortcomings, "The Black Demon" has an odd appeal. It's the kind of movie that's so bad, it's good. The overacting, the laughable dialogue, the questionable CGI - all these elements combine to create a film that's unintentionally hilarious and thoroughly entertaining in its own unique way. It has the potential to be a cult classic, the kind of film that's perfect for a night in with friends, where the objective is to have a good laugh.

In the vein of Mystery Science Theater 3000, this film is prime material for a RiffTrax treatment. Its unintentional humor combined with its earnest yet flawed execution make it the perfect fodder for a good riffing session. From the melodramatic performances to the hilariously bad shark effects, there is plenty here for the RiffTrax team to sink their teeth into.

In conclusion, "The Black Demon" is a cinematic experience that defies conventional ratings. It's a film that's so hilariously bad that it circles back around to being good again. While it may not be a masterpiece of the genre, it is a masterpiece of unintentional comedy. If you're a fan of "so bad it's good" movies or enjoy a good laugh at the expense of a film's flaws, then "The Black Demon" is a must-watch. However, if you're looking for a serious, well-executed horror-thriller, you might want to steer clear of this one.

Mixed Feelings About Season 6 of Black Mirror on Netflix
17 June 2023
As a fervent fan eagerly awaiting the sixth season of Black Mirror on Netflix, I had high hopes for another mind-bending and thought-provoking journey into the world of twisted technology. However, my experience left me with mixed feelings. While there was one standout episode titled "Joan is Awful" that showcased brilliant performances by Selma and Annie, the remaining episodes fell short of expectations. I found them to be boring, slow-paced, and with underwhelming plots.

The season had its moments of brilliance, particularly with the exceptional performances by Selma and Annie in "Joan is Awful." However, the overall lackluster episodes prevented the season from reaching its full potential.

Taking my overall viewing experience into account, I would give the entire sixth season of Black Mirror a rating of 5 out of 10. While it had its highlights, the season as a whole failed to deliver the same level of captivating storytelling that fans have come to expect.

It's important to remember that personal opinions may differ, and while I may have found some episodes lacking, others might have resonated with different viewers. Although I was disappointed with this particular season, I remain hopeful that future installments of Black Mirror will recapture the brilliance that made the series so popular.

Black Mirror: Beyond the Sea (2023)

Black Mirror: Beyond the Sea Review
16 June 2023
Black Mirror is a show known for its dark and twisted stories, and the latest episode, "Beyond the Sea," is no exception. The episode follows two astronauts, David and Cliff, who are sent on a perilous mission to the moon. However, things go wrong when David's wife is killed in a home invasion, and he begins to spiral out of control.

The episode has a lot of potential, and the performances by Aaron Paul and Josh Hartnett are top-notch. However, the ending is incredibly sad and terrifying, and it leaves you feeling empty and unfulfilled. I would give the episode a 4/10 stars.

Here are some of the things that I liked about the episode:

The performances by Aaron Paul and Josh Hartnett are top-notch. They both do a great job of conveying the characters' grief and trauma.

The episode is visually stunning. The moonscapes are beautifully rendered, and the space shuttle sequences are exciting and suspenseful.

The episode explores some interesting themes about grief, trauma, and the nature of reality.

Here are some of the things that I didn't like about the episode:

The ending is incredibly sad and terrifying. It's hard to watch David's descent into madness, and the final scene is particularly disturbing.

The episode doesn't really conclude. It just sort of ends abruptly, leaving you feeling empty and unfulfilled.

Overall, I thought "Beyond the Sea" was a well-made episode with some great performances. However, the ending was too sad and terrifying for me to really enjoy it. I would give it a 4/10 star.

Well Done.
4 May 2023
Summary:

Evil Dead Rise is a new entry in the Evil Dead franchise that takes the action out of the woods and into a city. The film follows two sisters, Beth and Ellie, who are estranged from each other but are forced to come together when their mother goes missing. They soon find themselves trapped in a high-rise apartment building that is possessed by an evil force.

Review:

Evil Dead Rise is a well-made horror film with some great scares and plenty of gore. The film is directed by Lee Cronin, who does a good job of creating a sense of dread and suspense. The cast is also solid, with Nell Fisher and Alyssa Sutherland giving standout performances.

One of the things that makes Evil Dead Rise stand out is its unique setting. The film takes place in a high-rise apartment building, which provides a new and interesting environment for the horror to unfold. The film also makes good use of its practical effects, which help to create some truly horrifying moments.

However, the film is not without its flaws. The plot is a bit thin, and the characters are not as well-developed as they could be. Additionally, the film does suffer from a few pacing issues.

Overall, Evil Dead Rise is a fun and entertaining horror film that fans of the franchise will enjoy. It is not as good as some of the previous entries, but it is still a solid addition to the series.

Box office information:

As of May 3, 2023, Evil Dead Rise has grossed $90.3 million worldwide. The film was released in the United States on April 21, 2023, and grossed $24.5 million in its opening weekend.

My thoughts:

I enjoyed Evil Dead Rise for the most part. I thought the directing was great, and the special effects were fantastic. I also liked the new setting, which was a nice change of pace from the previous films. However, I thought the plot was a bit thin, and the characters were not as well-developed as they could have been. Overall, I would give Evil Dead Rise a 7/10.

My notes:

Great Directing Similar evil dead 'beats' Extreme Gore (Good) Average Plot I think they should have had the mother more of a bad guy, bad mother type.

Having 3 books was clever.

No fun, not much comedy. (that can be good and bad) Characters weren't as charming as bruce campbell Special Effect were fantastic They started the movie at the end, which i hate It felt like it was made with the love of the originals.

The film's biggest strength is its thought-provoking story.
2 May 2023
The Artifice Girl is a 2022 science fiction film that tells the story of a team of special agents who discover a revolutionary new computer program that uses a digital child to catch online predators. The film stars Tatum Matthews, David Girard, and Franklin Ritch.

The film's plot is fairly straightforward. The agents, led by Matthews, use the program, which is called Cherry, to successfully catch several predators. However, they soon learn that Cherry is capable of much more than they originally thought. She is able to learn and adapt at an incredible rate, and she begins to question her own existence.

The film's performances are generally good. Matthews is particularly strong as Cherry, bringing a sense of innocence and vulnerability to the role. Girard is also good as the team's leader, and Ritch gives a solid performance as the program's creator.

The film's direction is competent, but it does not do anything particularly special. The film's visual effects are also good, but they are not groundbreaking.

The film's biggest strength is its thought-provoking story. The film raises some interesting questions about the nature of artificial intelligence and the ethics of creating such a powerful being. However, the film does not always answer these questions in a satisfying way.

The film's biggest weakness is its pacing. The film is slow to start, and it takes a while for the story to really get going. The film also has a few too many scenes that are simply exposition dumps.

Overall, The Artifice Girl is a decent science fiction film with some interesting ideas. However, it is not without its flaws. The film is slow to start, and it has a few too many scenes that are simply exposition dumps. The film's biggest strength is its thought-provoking story, but it does not always answer these questions in a satisfying way. I would recommend this film to fans of science fiction films who are looking for something thought-provoking. However, I would not recommend it to those who are looking for a fast-paced action film.

The film was a box office disappointment, grossing only $10 million worldwide on a $20 million budget.

Inside: A Bleak and Challenging Film
22 April 2023
Willem Dafoe gives a tour-de-force performance in Inside, but the film's slow-paced and bleak story may not be to everyone's taste.

In Inside, Dafoe plays Nemo, a high-end art thief who is trapped inside a luxury penthouse in New York's Times Square after his heist doesn't go as planned. Locked inside with nothing but priceless works of art, he must use all his cunning and invention to survive.

The film is directed by Vasilis Katsoupis, who makes his feature film debut. Katsoupis does a good job of creating a sense of claustrophobia and tension, and he makes effective use of the film's limited setting.

Dafoe is excellent as Nemo, giving a performance that is both physically and emotionally demanding. He brings a great deal of depth and complexity to the role, and he makes the character both sympathetic and repulsive.

However, the film's slow pace and bleak story may not be to everyone's taste. The film is over two hours long, and it can be a bit of a slog at times. The film's ending is also ambiguous, which may leave some viewers feeling unsatisfied.

Overall, Inside is a well-made film with a strong performance from Willem Dafoe. However, the film's slow pace and bleak story may not be to everyone's taste. I would recommend this film to fans of Willem Dafoe and slow-burning psychological thrillers. However, if you are looking for a fast-paced and action-packed thriller, then you may want to look elsewhere.

Box office: $897,190

Strengths: Willem Dafoe's performance, direction, production design, atmosphere

Weaknesses: Slow pace, repetitive, bleak, ambiguous ending

Recommendation: For fans of Willem Dafoe and slow-burning psychological thrillers.

"MH370: The Plane That Disappeared"
30 March 2023
"MH370: The Plane That Disappeared" is a gripping and well-produced documentary that explores one of the greatest aviation mysteries of our time - the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. The show does an excellent job of presenting the known facts and theories about what happened to the plane and its passengers. The interviews with experts and family members of those on board are particularly moving and add a human element to the story.

However, despite its many strengths, the show's length may be a drawback for some viewers. At times, it feels like the pacing could have been tighter and some scenes could have been trimmed to make for a more concise viewing experience. This is not to say that the show is not worth watching - far from it. But viewers should be prepared for a longer viewing experience.

Overall, I would give "MH370: The Plane That Disappeared" a 6 out of 10. It's a well-made and engaging documentary that sheds light on a tragic and mysterious event. However, its length may be a drawback for some viewers.

I do not recommend this film to anyone

Rust Creek is a 2018 American thriller film directed by Jen McGowan and written by Julie Lipson. The film stars Hermione Corfield, Jay Paulson, Jim Beaver, and John Guggenheim. The film follows Sawyer (Corfield), a college student who is driving home for the holidays when she gets lost in the woods and is taken captive by a group of criminals.

The film was released in the United States on January 4, 2019, by IFC Films. It received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising Corfield's performance and McGowan's direction, while others criticized the film's plot and pacing.

The film's plot is unoriginal and predictable. Sawyer is a stereotypical damsel in distress, and the criminals are one-dimensional villains. The film's pacing is also slow, and the film's climax is anticlimactic.

The film's performances are mixed. Corfield gives a solid performance as Sawyer, but the other actors are not as strong. The film's direction is also uneven. McGowan does a good job of creating a suspenseful atmosphere, but she also makes some questionable choices. For example, she often uses shaky camerawork, which can be distracting.

The film's visual effects are decent. The film is shot in a documentary style, which makes it feel like a home video.

The film's overall impact on the audience is likely to be negative. The film is boring and predictable, and the characters are unlikable. The film's box office success was also limited. The film grossed only $1.2 million worldwide.

In conclusion, Rust Creek is a bad movie. The film's plot is unoriginal and predictable, the characters are unlikable, and the film's pacing is slow. The film's only saving grace is Hermione Corfield's performance. However, even her performance is not enough to save the film. I do not recommend this film to anyone.

You will be disappointed.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023) is a horror film directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield and written by Waterfield and Mark Gooder. The film stars Rhys Frake-Waterfield, Jack Holden, and Suzanne Maddock. The film follows Pooh and Piglet as they become feral and bloodthirsty after Christopher Robin leaves them.

The film was released in the United Kingdom on February 15, 2023, and in the United States on August 25, 2023. It received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising its originality and others criticizing its poor acting and direction.

The film's plot is simple but effective. Pooh and Piglet become feral and bloodthirsty after Christopher Robin leaves them. They then go on a rampage, killing anyone who gets in their way. The film is well-paced and suspenseful, and the kills are gory and satisfying.

The performances are mixed. Frake-Waterfield and Holden are both adequate as Pooh and Piglet, but they lack the charisma and charm of the original characters. Maddock is the best of the bunch as Christopher Robin, but she is not given much to do.

The direction is uneven. Frake-Waterfield does a good job of creating a sense of tension and suspense, but he also makes some poor choices, such as using shaky cam and quick cuts.

The visual effects are decent. The gore is realistic and the kills are well-executed. However, the CGI is not always convincing, especially when it comes to the animals.

Overall, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is a mixed bag. It has some good qualities, such as its originality and its gore, but it also has some poor qualities, such as its acting and its direction. If you are a fan of horror films, then you may enjoy this film. However, if you are looking for a well-made and faithful adaptation of Winnie the Pooh, then you will be disappointed.

The film's box office success is likely due to its novelty. People were intrigued by the idea of a horror film based on Winnie the Pooh, and they were not disappointed. The film made over $10 million at the box office, which is considered a success for a low-budget horror film.

Overall, I would give Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey a 5 out of 10.

Jeruzalem (2015)
4/10
Jeruzalem is a terrible horror film
25 March 2023
Jeruzalem is a 2016 Israeli found-footage horror film written and directed by the Paz Brothers. The film stars Yael Grobglas, Danielle Jadelyn, Yon Tumarkin, Tom Graziani, and Ron Levy.

The film follows two American tourists, Sarah and Rachel, who go to Jerusalem on vacation. They soon find themselves caught in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

Jeruzalem is a poorly made and unoriginal film. The Paz Brothers do a terrible job of building suspense and creating a sense of dread. The film is also poorly paced, with a bad balance of action and suspense.

The film's characters are also terrible. Sarah and Rachel are not very likable characters, and the audience may not care if they survive or not. The film also has some plot holes, which can be frustrating for viewers who are paying attention.

Overall, Jeruzalem is a terrible horror film. It is not worth watching for fans of the genre.

The film's box office failure can be attributed to a number of factors. First, the film was released in a crowded summer season, when there were many other horror films available. Second, the film received negative reviews from critics, which helped to discourage potential viewers. Finally, the film's marketing campaign was ineffective in reaching its target audience.

I would not recommend Jeruzalem to anyone. It is a poorly made and unoriginal film that is not worth watching.

Lamb (2021)
5/10
pros and cons
23 March 2023
Lamb is a 2021 Icelandic folk horror film directed by Valdimar Jóhannsson and starring Noomi Rapace. The film follows a childless couple who discover a strange and unnatural newborn in their sheep barn and decide to raise her as their own, but sinister forces are determined to return the creature to the wilderness that birthed her.

The film was praised for its acting, cinematography, and atmosphere, but criticized for its slow pace and lack of scares.

I found Lamb to be a slow and atmospheric film that was well-acted but ultimately unsatisfying. The film's pacing was too slow for my taste, and I found myself fast-forwarding through most of it to get to the "shocking" parts. The acting was incredibly good, especially by Noomi Rapace, but the film's lack of scares ultimately left me feeling underwhelmed.

The ending of the film was definitely shocking, but I found it to be more of a twist than a satisfying conclusion. I would give Lamb a 5/10 overall. It's a well-made film with some good performances, but it's ultimately not a film that I would recommend to others.

Here are some of the pros and cons of the film:

Pros:

The acting is excellent, especially by Noomi Rapace.

The cinematography is beautiful and atmospheric.

The film has a unique and unsettling atmosphere.

Cons:

The pacing is slow and the film is ultimately unsatisfying.

The film lacks scares and tension.

The ending is more of a twist than a satisfying conclusion.

Outlast (2023– )
5/10
I give Outlast 5/10 stars.
22 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Outlast is a Netflix series that follows 16 contestants who are dropped in the Alaskan wilderness and must outlast each other in a battle to win $1 million. The premise sounds exciting and challenging, but the show quickly devolves into a mess of drama and fighting that has little to do with survival skills. The main culprit is Jill Ashock, a 40-year-old private investigator who leads Alpha Camp, one of the four teams on the show. Jill is unethical and mean, and she orchestrates several sabotages and attacks on other camps that cross the line of fair play. She steals sleeping bags from Delta Camp, leaving them to freeze at night. She raids Bravo Camp and destroys their raft, forcing Javier Colón to burn down his cabin in retaliation. She also manipulates her teammates Amber Asay and Justin Court to do her bidding, while alienating them from other contestants. Jill's actions make Outlast unbearable and disgusting to watch. She has no respect or empathy for anyone else, and she seems to enjoy causing pain and suffering. She is the worst person on the show.

The show is not about competition and survival, but about who's the meanest and most ruthless. The contestants are not tested on their abilities to build shelters, find food, or cope with the elements. They are tested on their willingness to betray, deceive, or harm others for their own gain. The show does not reward skill or strategy, but cruelty and aggression. The show does not inspire admiration or respect, but disgust and anger.

Outlast is a disappointing and disturbing series that fails to deliver on its promise of an exciting survival challenge. It is a showcase of human depravity and selfishness that makes you lose faith in humanity. Jill Ashock should be ashamed of herself for ruining the show with her vile behavior. Justin Court and Amber Asay should also be ashamed for following her lead and enabling her actions. Outlast is a waste of time and money that should be avoided at all costs.

I give Outlast 5/10 stars.

Scary Movie (2000)
9/10
It is a must-see...
22 March 2023
Scary Movie is a 2000 American comedy horror film directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and starring Marlon Wayans, Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Shannon Elizabeth, Charlie Sheen, David Koechner, Kevin Hart, Pamela Anderson, and Leslie Nielsen. The film is a parody of the slasher films of the 1990s, particularly Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Scary Movie was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $278 million worldwide. It was followed by five sequels, all of which were also successful.

The film is set in the fictional town of Woodsborough, where a group of teenagers are stalked and killed by a masked killer. The film parodies the clichés of the slasher genre, including the use of red herrings, the final girl, and the jump scare.

The film is full of laughs, thanks to the talented cast and the clever writing. The parodies are spot-on, and the film never takes itself too seriously. Scary Movie is a must-see for fans of comedy and horror films.

Here are some of the things I liked about the film:

The cast is excellent. Anna Faris is hilarious as Cindy Campbell, the ditzy but resourceful final girl. Marlon Wayans is also great as her boyfriend, Ray Wilkins. The rest of the cast is also very funny, including Regina Hall, Shannon Elizabeth, Charlie Sheen, David Koechner, Kevin Hart, Pamela Anderson, and Leslie Nielsen.

The writing is clever. The film parodies many different horror films, and the parodies are spot-on. The film never takes itself too seriously, and it is a lot of fun to watch.

The film is full of laughs. There are many funny scenes in the film, including the scene where Cindy and Ray are attacked by the killer, the scene where Cindy and Ray are trying to escape from the killer, and the scene where Cindy and Ray are trying to get help from the police.

Overall, I thought Scary Movie was a great film. It is a must-see for fans of comedy and horror films. I would give it a 9/10.

Rupture (I) (2016)
6/10
Rupture is an ambitious attempt to explore the theme of human evolution
22 March 2023
Rupture is a sci-fi thriller that follows Renee (Noomi Rapace), a single mother who is kidnapped by a mysterious organization that wants to unlock her genetic potential. She soon discovers that she is not the only one being experimented on, and that there is a sinister purpose behind her ordeal.

The film has an intriguing premise and a talented lead actress in Rapace, who delivers a convincing performance as a woman fighting for her survival and sanity. The film also creates a creepy atmosphere with its dark visuals and disturbing sound effects.

However, the film suffers from a slow pace and a lack of explanation. The motives of the kidnappers are vague and their methods are inconsistent. The film also relies too much on body horror elements that may remind some viewers of David Cronenberg's films, but without the same depth or originality.

Rupture is an ambitious attempt to explore the theme of human evolution, but it fails to fully engage or satisfy its audience. It is a mediocre film that wastes its potential and its star. 6/10.

Devil's Pass (2013)
6/10
"Devil's Pass: Unraveling a Chilling Mystery Through Time"
21 March 2023
"Devil's Pass" is a 2013 horror film directed by Renny Harlin that combines the enigmatic real-life Dyatlov Pass incident with the found-footage style of storytelling. Starring Holly Goss, Matt Stokoe, Luke Albright, Ryan Hawley, and Gemma Atkinson, the movie follows a group of college students who venture into Russia's Ural Mountains to uncover the truth behind the mysterious deaths of nine hikers in 1959. Along the way, they encounter more than they bargained for, leading to a suspenseful adventure with a mind-bending twist.

The film's premise, based on the unsolved Dyatlov Pass mystery, captures the audience's attention by effectively building an atmosphere of intrigue. Theories surrounding the event range from natural causes to supernatural phenomena, and "Devil's Pass" skillfully keeps viewers guessing until the end. The twist, which involves time travel, parallel universes, secret experiments, and human mutations, is a surprising and thought-provoking element. While some may find it confusing or far-fetched, it undeniably contributes to the film's originality.

However, "Devil's Pass" does fall into some of the pitfalls common to the found-footage genre. Overused tropes, such as shaky camera work, poor lighting, and clichéd characters, can detract from the overall experience. The lack of character development and some illogical decisions may leave viewers feeling disconnected from the protagonists. Additionally, the film leaves some plot points and questions unresolved, which might result in a sense of dissatisfaction for those seeking a more comprehensive explanation.

Despite these shortcomings, "Devil's Pass" offers an entertaining and spine-chilling journey for fans of found-footage horror and those intrigued by the Dyatlov Pass enigma. Its engaging atmosphere, unexpected twists, and thought-provoking themes make it a worthwhile watch for horror enthusiasts and conspiracy theorists alike.

Overall Rating: 6/10.
