Fear of Water (2014)

A down-to-earth depiction of adolescence
6 January 2016
I had the pleasure of watching this film last night. It was a nice down-to-earth depiction of adolescence, awakening and responsibilities. However, it left me wanting more. The story was nice and real but at the same time baiting and not going where all the indicators pointed. The ending also felt anti-climactic. No real purpose to tie the knot of the film and its story.

Even though I can find plot holes and such I still enjoyed it. Great acting from Lily Loveless and the rest of the cast. The visual pictures where slow and establishing mixed with fast montages giving the film a nice tempo with mixed effect.

Divergent (2014)

A inconsistent tale that some will enjoy for the same reasons they enjoy Twilight

Warning: Spoilers
I'm a huge fan of the books. The psychological angst and inner fight that Tris has to fight with and against. How she want, but cant, conform into the norm of society. How she, a little girl, is hated and despised for something she has no influence over. The books have so many layers of meaning that I sometimes marvel at it.

Now to the movie. I tried to watch it as a movie, not a adaption, and think I did fairly well. Yet there are a few (or many) things that really bothered me. The lack of chemistry between the lead actors. The acting in general wasn't very good except for Kate Winslet and Shailene Woodley who delivered with what they got. Yet, I am marveled over how plan, dull and one dimensional the film was. I never felt anything about the inner struggle of Tris or the psychological terror that the environment is filled up with.

Divergent is a inconsistent tale that some will enjoy for the same reasons they enjoy Twilight (which I still haven't figured out how one can). The only reason I'm giving it a 5 instead of a 4 is due to Winslet and her performance. Even though her character (that is one of the most complex and sophisticated antagonist I've ever read about)is made into the classical villain with megalomania.

The Heat (I) (2013)

Hilarious and smart
31 July 2013
I had sky-high hopes for this film when me and my friend went to the pre-preview. When we sat there in the chairs it felt like we were in heaven. I can understand why some people might not find the film that appealing (mainly due to the strong feminist ideas about men and women in society).

However, if you're not scared of feminist thoughts or a rapid, fun, smart and brilliantly written movie... this is the film for you. It's probably the best comedy I've seen since Pitch Perfect (I'm into sarcastic and physical humor). Not to mention the best cop-comedy I've EVER seen... so Hot Fuzz can kiss my ***.

The cast is marvelous and does an amazing job, especially the two leads (Bullock and McCarthy) who portrays strong, willful, smart and (seemingly) social misfits women who tries, and succeeds, to get the recognition they truly deserves.

In other words. I DEEPLY recommend this film and I hope you guys liked it as much as I did.

A smart and interesting thriller that keeps the viewer interested even though it, at times, is quite predictable!
10 November 2012
This psychological thriller follows two college girls who makes a pact to kill each others enemies.

The summary of the Breaking The Girl doesn't imply all the twists and turns. It's a sexy, smart and interesting movie that keeps the audience captivated. Alex (Madeline Zima) is a rich collage chick with some, obvious, dubious character flaws. Sara (Agnes Bruckner) is the scholarship student from the other side of the track. There is some steaming hot scenes between the two and some plotting of murder. Does it sound familiar? It's, on paper, a rip-off of the Wild Things movie(s).

Although the similarities between them I must say that I enjoyed Breaking The Girls more. It's not only because I'm a huge fan of Zima or the director Jamie Babbitt. It's because the story is actually rather good. Where Wild Things is full of archetypes Breaking The Girls play around and, eventually, trick the viewer into believing they have the story figured out.

For those who are familiar with the thriller genre in general this movie might be a bit predictable at places. However, it's a nice and captivating film with great acting, directing, soundtrack and vision.
