Parasite (2019)
5/10
Over rated

Warning: Spoilers
The poor is "clever". The rich is dumb. There's no depth in almost any of the characters. Every one in this movie has a paper thin character that only serves a very superficial role. Not to mention all the plot holes that can't last 3 seconds of thinking.

Setup is nice, but the poor mooched half way through but the progression stopped by the intrusion of the 2nd parasite. Right after the serious of incident all the tention they built up got washed away, instead of let it escolate to a meaningful conflict it resolved in a chaotic farce.

It's a nice topic and the setup has it's pretentials. But they end up with shooting the pellet with less than half berral of powder.

It's a ok movie, but way far off from winning an award.

Birds of Prey (2020)

Nice package lame content
27 February 2020
It feels like a last minute reskin of script that's completely unrelated to DC at all. You barely feel the story take place in Gothem without Harley's voice over constantly reminding you. The story is loose, so loose that you wont miss a thing if you remove the cop, the huntress and the black canary. The balance between telling the story and building characters is off too, can't belive Mary Elizabeth Winstead played a such under development and under proformanced role. And the cop, man, that acting was awful. Other than few well designed art pieceish scene and Margot and Ewan's excellent acting the movie is not worth watching.

The Gunnm I liked
16 February 2019
As a longtime fan of Gunnm(Battle Angel Alita), I am satisfied. I appreciate the production team took their time to do the research of the original serials. The adaptation is great, they filtered out few "acquire taste" and swapped in elements that would make much more appeal to general public. The film really kept true to the original manga and reassembled almost everything from the manga the scenes, mechanical bodies, characters and the world they lived in. They did a great job on capturing Alita's slightly naïve stubbornness, the "all in or all out" euthanasic, and the pursuit of who she is. Storywise, the film ingeniously weaved the first 11 books of manga together, brought up few events that was happening in the 2nd chapter of Alita's adventure to the 1st movie. Which is nice since I bet they're already thinking of the next Alita movie. But as few of Cameron's work, the dark side and the ugliness of irontown wasn't rendered enough. The lack of depth on the ugliness made the whole plot a bit light, the emotional conflict wasn't intense enough and the romance plotline which is very important in the 1st chapter a little bit lack of depth. The overall CG is stunning. Other than the wanted flyer and the parasite's face the rest of CG is absolute marvelous. All in all, definite a great Gunnm movie, will definite watch it again and again till the sequel is out!!!

Red Sparrow (2018)

Shallow wet dream
17 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Complete waste of time I have to say. The movie is slow, the logic is no where to be found. On top of that, through out the whole movie there's nothing but the old soviet union routine: Russians are inhuman, Russians want to be freed, Russians are easily fooled and their ppl hates them and helped us to beat the crap out of themselves. Not to even mention if the mole is such a high ranking person, why bother to "draw attention" in the first place? Some patrol man gonna arrest him? For what? Over all, Red Sparrow seems like a not so intelligent person's fantasy of the whole spy world. It failed on almost every beats a spy movie needs. The shallow content and the character makes lots of straight to the shelf movie looks deep.

A great movie but with a normal ending
11 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The technique of the story telling, the photography and everything is great. The way it unwrapping the mystery and make audience keep questioning the situation is very nice.

But I have to say when the moment the real bad guys shows up, it ruined the genius of this movie. Feel like free fall from one of the top mystery story into a routine apocalypse story ending...

Worth watching for sure. I'd gladly give it a 6.5. Just a little shy from getting a 7.
