Six Years Gone
18 July 2022
One of the best indie films I've seen. The production value; acting, editing, script, camera - all spot on. It's not an easy watch, but one that will stick with you. A real gem with an ending that, in reality, is a new begnning to yet another long heartbreaking journey. A must see.

Surprising

I almost missed this gem because I don't really have any interest in cricket. Didn't take me long to realize that, while the doc has a lot to do with the sport, it's about so much more. Life as a Muslim woman in Mumbai is no easy feat, but one that involves playing in an all male sport, is a whole different story. Yes, it's educational but also sad, poignant, unpredictable and even funny at times. It's beautifully shot and the face-paced editing keeps you intrigued as the tale drifts into uncharted territory. I recommend taking a chance on this one. It will stay with you long after the fade to black.

a necessary film

Not just a feel good movie about a popular topic. this is an authentic snapshot of the kind of life that most people don't understand. The main character changes from teen to adult right before our eyes. I wanted to cheer him, hug and warn him. a gem of a movie. catch it before it disappears, which I hope it never does. should be screened in every high school and university.

from the heart

I'm not sure exactly why I enjoyed this movie so much. Partially, probably, because I'm a writer and live in Pennsylvania. I was also on my own at a very young age and lived in NYC for many years as a starving artist. So, I guess I just answered my own question. I related to this child/woman on a profoundly deep level. The difference is, not only is she a good writer, but she completes an entire piece of art in a matter of seconds. not fair, but an inspiration all the same.

in any event, I latched onto this film immediately and didn't let go. It was shot beautifully and edited perfectly... I sort of just floated along for the ride. There was a darkness attached to Abbie I couldn't quite identify. I hope she's still out there somewhere, happy and in love, but with a roof over her head and a peaceful relationship with her parents.type on, Abbie. If life hasn't given you a break yet, hang on, it will eventually.

what a nice NIGHT

I didn't expect much from this film. it's a low budget indie and in my experience often times these movies don't have much to offer. If you're looking for blood, gore or nudity, this isn't the one. instead, it's a smart drama with limited locations (1 basically), lean dialogue for the most part, and no faces that you'll recognize - which is where the beauty lies. the actors took the film to a place few art films go. OK, a few scenes were too long, I think, and the dialogue could've used a bit of tweaking in a few places, but the cinematography was so impressive, editing, sound, and even the background score was right on target. a recommend for sure tho it is a slow burner and may take two sittings to watch the whole thing - but do, the ending is worth the wait and not one I expected.

what a treat

I watch ALL films lesbian. They are few and far between. Typically I only make it half way thru most of them because they're so bad.I stumbled across this one last night, so glad I did. The story unfolds slowly but hang on anyway... it's a smart drama with some hysterical laughs for those who have ever worked on a micro budget film. Highly recommend...

Guilty pleasure

This was a fun watch.I didn't expect to actually make it thru the whole film... how much more is there to say about Big Foot -- but I couldn't turn it off. The sub-par production value actually contributed to the whole viewing experience for me. it almost felt like a found footage experiment. There's a pretty in depth examination of the dated Patterson film - which I found fascinating - and meshed well with the faulty sound and hand-held camera. I enjoyed it. a good way to spend a winter weekend.

Jeezzz

felt like i was watching a horror film from long ago - in a good way. parked at the drive-inn, giving away my age, or telling gruesome stories during an all girl sleepover. never liked these kinds of movies, but if you do, you won't be disappointed. I couldn't stop watching, scared witless. music helped and good sound f/x. fight scenes were well choreographed, again sound f/x helped heighten the realism. a little too much blood and gore for me, but it was done well, great make-up artist. not sure what his problem was, but I come from the south, and we had lots of guys who looked a lot like him hanging around the school yard. definitely slept with the lights on.
