Broad City: St. Mark's (2015)
A Title Which Captivates Someone's Attention
This is a review (mine, I suppose, if you believe in ownership ((what a ludicrous thing to say)) which entails my very personal opinion about the season 2 finale of Broad City.
The main plot of the episode is that something occurs while Abbi and Ilana wander, saunter and stroll along the streets of New York (I wouldn't be sure it's New York, television is a lie). As they amble the streets aimlessly, they encounter some people in quasi-peculiar premises and thus comedic situations ensue -because they can do that- which results in funny scenes that one would watch in amusement and, sometimes, laughter.
This specific episode is not very exceptional or special because nothing really is (well, except this one time in a camp on the red sea when a cat decided to have its fetus aborted on my lap), but it guarantees entertainment through these nihilistic, semi-purposeless, and sarcastic portrayals of the city and the lives of two "regular" girls living in New York (presumably).
I conclude this review with my episode rating that is an 8 out of 10, and admitting that there are indeed too many parentheses in this concise review.
Louie: Barney/Never (2012)
It's brilliant!
Louie has the right amount of absurdity, comedy, awkwardness, drama, characters, and all the other elements that you can mesh together to create a brilliant show. It is funny! Whether sometimes the show gets dramatic or not, it's funny. Even if you're not laughing, there's comedy there.
There's this part in this episode where he talks about Kansas city and he seems quite intrigued/amused and laughing at what he's saying, yet, the hosts were just silent. And, this is how, sometimes, this show is met with.. Silence.. Lack of comprehension of that sort of comedy which he finds in things. And, I, on no basis of course, guess that he's doing it mainly for self-entertainment and for the sake of those few who can SEE the comedy in everything too (specially dramatic things).
I don't know.. I just loved this episode and I truly admire the whole show. That's basically it.
The Wire: Misgivings (2006)
A very human episode
The message of this episode revolves around agonized humanity within those whom we may think they lack thereof, and the lack of it at those whom we think they mostly have, what we call, "humanity".
The unfair treatment and abuse of Bubbles from Hauk and how Bubbles feels about it, and how he is distressed by feeling the lack of dignity at every instance he gets mugged.
The bad looks of those who work/go frequently to church that are given to bubbles, even from a reverend (proclaimed to be a man of God).
The troubled child who tries to toughen up even though he's afraid and does not want to do what he does, just because the negative pressure coming from a mother can be extremely devastating.
The utter lack of hope from those who are responsible of students at school and how low their expectations are from their students.
The look that Chris gave to Michael. And, then the one he gave to his father after murdering him in an extreme physical procedure (unlike the past kills we have seen him do. Fast. With a gun).
The look Michael gave to his mother who is attached to his father despite the fact she knows about his perverted deeds.
This episode is very important. And, it emphasizes about how human and realistic this show is. A resounding 10 from me.
Homeland: Grace (2011)
Little details matter
As mentioned before by one of the users, this is a quite good series. The actors are performing adequately the intricate characters who each have their own problems (whether psychological, marital, etcetera...). However, it seems that there's still a huge lack of information about the Islamic prayer. It's very simple to research it and/or even ask Muslims to demonstrate how the prayer goes. Because when I know how it is and then I see it this way, it damages the realism of the series. Instead of being intrigued by the guy's prayer, I exclaim and start sarcastically mocking how it's depicted. Such details matter, this series is great, and to be even greater, one has to take care of all the details pertaining to his character and to his plot.
My vote would be a 7.5
Sherlock Holmes (2009)
Eccentric, fun, good, but not great.
I was and still am a big fan of Robert D.J., and wasn't the same for Jude Law; However, in this movie, these two made quite a fascinating team with great acting and tremendous role playing.
Yet, the movie's story/plot isn't but mediocre. I mean, we keep on observing these inexplicable and extraordinary events that happen without knowing what is going on at all, and gives you a full explanation of something that no one could ever know ( kinda feels like a CSI way to solve things ) in the last 10 minutes of it. I don't know it just didn't feel that good.
I have been to this movie for two times ( one with friends and the other one with me family ), and in the second time I focused more in the movie's soundtrack ( my top two favorites were the one at the circus when Holmes was chasing Adler and the second is when the explosion happened) And, seriously it is the most exquisite part of this movie more than the acting even!
In conclusion; since the story/plot is the soul of any movie ( that's what I think ), I give it 7/10 for being good but not really good.
