Galapagos 3D (2013)
Remarkable 3D documentary
Watched in 3D and I may say this is one of the best presentation I've ever seen. Pity 3D is dying nowadays.
Three episodes explaining how Galapagos islands appeared millions years ago, volcanic origins, how the unique location, combination of winds and currents, contributes to wildlife thrives. Both marine and land.
Focuses on evolution theory, explaining how continental species evolved and changed during millions years. Extremely interesting and insightful topic. Charles Darwin's theory was inspired after visiting these tiny Pacific islands.
Combine the narrative from David Attenborough with stunning shots and you get great documentary, although it's a bit different from BBC usual style, I can't complain.
PS The other reviewer mentioned BBC, but this series was produced by Sky.
Zangiku monogatari (1939)
Interesting but hardly great - Japan "Gone with the Wind"
I've read some very exciting comments about this picture and in the middle of the movie I realized how I'm disappointed a bit. Keep your expectations low, lads. It's not Mizoguchi's screenplay like "Sisters of Gion", this movie based on a book. Classic story, very predictable, with straightforward acting, especially lead woman with tears and tempted voice all the time.
Although a beautiful visual look, I couldn't connect myself with the movie. Unlike to "Naniwa ereji" (Osaka Elegy, 1936) and "Gion no shimai" (Sisters of the Gion, 1936), which are also very simple, but truthful and realistic, with sudden thought provocative endings. I prefer and recommend this movies ahead of "Zangiku monogatari".
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008)
Usual summer blocbaster
I'm not a fan of the previous series, but they are OK - light, entertainment movies - good story, eye candy locations, humor, actors performances, special effects and action - it all was pretty good. And has some magic.
Mummy 3 is very labored picture. People asking when they start shooting M3 - but main theme was closed by the first movies. So, after years, China. And mummies - sound a bit ridiculous. All magic gone with Sommers - they wrote screenplay, which technically repeat Mummy 2 in new interiors, and Rob Cohen just shoot it.
Actually, movie has some funny jokes and action, but overall it's step backwards compare to predecessors. In one row with other boring blocbasters this year - Iron Man, Narnia, ID4, Hulk, etc.
