The Break-Up Artist (2009)
Don't even bother
This is by far one of the worst movies I've seen in the last... 5 years. I was thinking that maybe a 13-year old might appreciate the plot. I really wanted to turn it off in the first 30 minutes but then I said to myself hey, it wouldn't be fair to rate it if I don't watch the whole movie. But it really is NOT worth seeing. What bothers me most is that people have given it a 5 and there are far much better movies that are rated with 4/4.5 on IMDb. I don't get it, it puzzles me. The acting was totally bad. Highly artificial and dull. There was definitely no chemistry between characters. Events succeeded fast and in a completely stupid manner. Plot unrealistic. Lack of professionalism at all levels possible. It is supposed to be a comedy but during the whole movie I didn't even smile. I yawned instead, and promised myself I wouldn't let myself waste another two hours on such movies ever again. Please, trust me on this, it isn't worth it. I guess it could have made a good parody of Hitch maybe. But it's nothing compared to Hitch. It is really stupid and full of clichés.
Spread (2009)
L.A. Playboy
I've just finished watching this movie and although I must admit, it started out good, as it kept running, I realized it was actually full of stereotypes and lacked any kind of originality. Yes, maybe the ending was a nice metaphor for the whole scenario that the main character had presented and some may even consider that brilliant but from my perspective it was not too outstanding. The acting was good and that was one of the reasons I kept watching. i don't remember having seen too much of Ashton Kutcher in other movies but I was pleasantly impressed by his performance here - his voice was grave and matched his rebel and macho-like attitude. It is one of the reasons why I gave this movie a 6 instead of a 3. I know, they tried to make a point but I felt they ended up in exposing the same stereotypes (taken to extremes here- you'll see after watching it)widely known and implied about large cities, rich men/women handsome girls/boys, attraction and relationships. I strongly believe that movies should give up patterns and show more originality. However the movie does reach its purpose of entertainment so if that's what you're looking for then you might watch it and might even enjoy it. I was surprised to actually see that many people have had many good things to say about it and I think I can figure out why but from my perspective it is not worth spending your money on it. One funny thing is that in my country they translated the title something like L.A. Playboy instead of a natural equivalent to the English original one - Spread.
