Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
.One of the worst movies I've ever seen in theaters
I haven't seen a Transformers movie in a pretty long time, so I honestly didn't know what to expect going into this film. But I can tell you that this is probably the worst movie I've ever seen in theaters. I literally fell asleep in the theater because my mind just gave up.
First and foremost......... the editing...
I've never seen a high-budget motion picture edited this badly before, and that's the main aspect that made it virtually unwatchable. I don't know if the same thing happens in the IMAX or 3D versions of the film, but whenever the movie cuts between different shots in a scene, you can notice some shots have a vertical letterbox while others don't. Whoever worked on the editing didn't bother to check that all the raw footage was exported in the same aspect ratio. So what you get is some shots that are in regular widescreen (16:9), other shots that have a slight vertical letterbox, and then a 3rd group of shots that have a much more apparent vertical letterbox. Seriously-- I've never seen something so ridiculous in my life. And this anomaly occurs throughout the ENTIRE 2 HOURS of the film. Visually, it's really distracting and I have to force my eyes to concentrate on what's going on in the scene. I can only hope that the filmmakers noticed this already and are now working to re-edit everything so it looks correct for the Digital/Blu-ray releases.
The second problem with the editing is that the pacing is really bad. I don't know how to explain it exactly, but the best way I can describe it is, it feels like I'm watching a 2-and-a-half hour trailer for an action movie. Every scene feels extremely rushed, the camera angles change all the time, and it not only makes it hard to follow the story, but it kills the mood of some scenes where you're supposed to connect with the characters. It's really bad.
Let me finish off this review with the best aspects of the film, and why I gave it a 3 instead of a 1.
To begin with, the acting in this film was rather good. I personally really liked the actress that played Izabella; she did a great job and was very believable.
The script/dialogue was pretty good too. There were a couple jokes in the film where I was able to laugh.
The best part of the film for me was definitely the CG. Visually, the movie looks AMAZING. There is so much detail in the transformers themselves, and when they change into cars the transitions are flawless.
Unfortunately due to the horrific nature of the editing, the good aspects of the film can easily go unnoticed.
Night of the Demon (1980)
Very strange, disturbing movie...
I'm not even sure whether I like this movie or not. It's just flat out bizarre. It's also extremely disturbing in several parts.
First of all, the movie was made in 1980, but it looks like a mid- 1970's film. There are a lot of landscape shots with 1970's-style Chicago-esque/smooth jazz/rock music playing in the background. Everyone is wearing flannel shirts for some reason. The dialog is really boring and drawn out.
But beyond all that, Bigfoot is definitely the star of the show and allows the film to entice you to finish the movie. The gore and kills are really good for the time.
There's some really disturbing scenes which went a little too far though. Some guy's dick gets ripped off and you actually SEE it... In another scene "Wanda" is on her porch getting whipped by her father for some stupid reason. Then at one point during Wanda's flashback, the movie gets VERY preachy. There's a shot in Wanda's bedroom where it just shows a bunch of pictures of Jesus Christ, the cross and Holy Mary, with like church music playing in the background. O.o For some reason, this part of the movie feels like you're no longer in the year 1980, but more like the late 1800's- early 1900's...
Then Bigfoot comes and rapes Wanda! Why? I don't know... Her father doesn't do anything, he's just like "You deserve it!" O.O
Then later, Wanda gives birth to a log of moving feces....... Literally... That's what it looked like. =w=
Anyway, I won't tell the rest of what happens... It's really strange... Like I said, I don't know whether I like it or not. I guess it's passable for the super low budget it likely had. It was able to keep me watching it till the end... o-o
Dolls (1986)
Awesome!
When I watched this movie, I wasn't exactly expecting what I ended up seeing. It's really creepy, but I wouldn't say it's scary. It's really cheesy, the acting kinda sucks, but at the same time, it's really entertaining and it will keep you interested until the end of it. The stop-animation is fantastic, and the special effects are great. The step-mother and the father are made out to be real butt-holes, and it works. When the mother blabbed, I felt like I wanted to spit at the screen. It's not the kind of movie where you should expect to be scared, but at the same time it's pretty creepy enough to be deemed a horror movie. The part when the dolls are like breaking apart and you can see a rotted out skeleton underneath their skin is insane..
It's not the best movie I've seen, but in it's own unique way, it's really awesome. I'm not really good at explaining it, you have to watch it for yourself. So go check it out. ^^
2012 (2009)
The Absolute Best Movie I've Seen This Year
Okay... I have no idea if they have a name for what's wrong with the people who rated this movie poorly, but to me it was the most amazing film I've seen this year. The acting was great, especially with John Cusack. The special effects were really awesome, and the shots that portrayed the disaster scenes really seemed to bring me right into the action. I felt like I was flying through the destruction as it progressed; it was just absolutely incredible. When I first saw the previews to this movie, I already knew I'd enjoy it, and I was right on the money. It was a bit confusing at first, because it seems like you're introduced to two different "groups" of main characters (the government/president/rich people group and the family), but as the movie progresses, I realized why it was appropriate to script the movie that way. I'm definitely gonna buy this movie on iTunes when it's released.
