The Snake King (2005)
Surprisingly well made and entertaining
I was real surprised with "Snakeman". It was actually a pretty good little independent movie. First, it was well shot. The director chose to use film instead of digital (which a lot of B-movies) do. And there were some great jungle shots of the Amazon. Second, the movie was fairly well acted. I really thought everyone in the film was a pretty seasoned actor. Stephen Baldwin was definitely a good hero. Third, they had some real cool production design. They had snake pillars in the jungle. I love that whole look.
The only real downside was that there were some fairly bad CGI shots of the snake. But, it's definitely entertaining if you're looking for that whole "monster in the jungle" concept.
AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004)
I miss Arnold.
Let me break this movie down honestly. I'm NOT one of those stupid critics who are all into those overly dramatic movies. And I'm not also one of those critical geeky fans. I'm just a guy who likes movies for "guys who like movies". I'm a big fan of the Predator and Alien franchises (especially Aliens and Predator part 1).
This movie is obviously going to expect comparison to the other alien and predator movies. With that said, Alien Vs. Predator is an "alright" movie, but they could have done soo much more. I thought the storyline was awesome and creative, and the 'Weyland' connection to the Aliens movies was a nice touch, but there just seemed to be something missing. I prefer the main character/hero in an action movie like Alien Vs. Predator to be a guy because lets face it, who can take more of a punch from an enormous creature like an Alien or Predator, a man or a woman?, Arnold or Sigorny? Paul WS Anderson has a habit of making a chick the main character(Ex:Resident Evil 1 & 2). But he is a good storyteller and knows good scenery.
But like i said, the movie was pretty good/ 'alright', but the filmmakers could have done soo much more. I realize the humans werent trained commandos, but rather (most of them were)scientists, but i thought they could have made more of an impact because they had the right guns and equipment. And if you haven't seen the movie yet,***minor spoilers*** don't expect the predators to be a hugee unstoppable force because they were in a small, closed area without their laser cannons (for most of the movie) and werent in a massive jungle where they could easily hunt their prey. They were going head to head, a little hand to hand combat with the aliens. And i thought they put up a pretty decent fight. They also shouldn't have killed off Colin Salmon character (he was the team commander from Resident Evil) so easily. He seemed like a trained soldier.
I was kind of hoping they would have Arnold make a cameo or at least mention his character name and how he survived the Predator years earlier. But i liked how Paul Anderson stayed loyal to the Alien movies. In Alien part 1, the Weyland Company set Ripley's crew on the alien planet for a reason. The company knew all about the aliens and what they could do. Now, we know how they knew. But it could have been a little better. I missed the commando team aspect and thought the filmmakers could have done more with it. It's too bad they chose to go the PG-13 route instead of R (considering all of the other Alien and Predator movies were R). Can't wait for that Unrated/R Rated Alien Vs. Predator DVD.
Hart's War (2002)
This movie will not get an academy award because it is a good movie
To sum it up in one sentence: This is probally one of the most emotional and best movies in a while. My grampa, being a war vet, loved it and said it was Bruce Willis's best dramatic role...this movie is a story of honor, no matter what color your skin is. This movie has great action and an emotional, well acted screeplay. Definitly rent it.
44 Minutes: The North Hollywood Shoot-Out (2003)
Breathtaking Gun Battle!
This movie debuted on the FX Network on June 1, 2003...it told the true story of two bank robbers that out man-powered the cops..the movie was very well done because it told the lives of ordinary cops before they were surprizing out gunned by 2 bank robbers..if you love great action/bank robbery battles, like in Heat, then you'll love this movie..most of the movie is a bloody battle between the cops and the two bank robbers with machine guns...it was emotional to see the cops determination and passion for their job.
Shoot to Kill (1988)
An Amazing Adventure in the Wilderness! Totally Underrated!
Its too bad they don't make this movie anymore...it has three great actors (Tom Berenger,Kirstie Alley, and Sidney Potier)..whats better than an FBI agent and an expert mountain man trying to hunt down an expert killer/theif in the mountains/wilderness..as they try to survive various obsticles of nature...
