Kissing Jessica Stein (2001)
Enjoyable
One of the sweeter romantic comedies to come out in the last few years. Good performances by the two female leads make this a winner. I like how it stayed away from gross out gags, graphic sex talk and sex scenes and went for a more subtle approach.
I also like the New York locales and music!
Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995)
Almost a action classic
I thought this movie was awesome! A little bit on the unbelievable side (more like a lot!) but very enjoyable.
There is great chemistry between Willis and Jackson and entertaining supporting performances from Jeremy Irons, Larry Bryggman, Graham Greene, and Colleen Camp.
The only disappointment was the ending which I thought was not inventive or "cool" enough, considering the endings of the first two films which were great!
Catch the Special Edition DVD for the alternate ending which I thought was better than the actual version used!
Die Hard 2 (1990)
Well above-board action flick
I never saw the original Die Hard in the theatre, so when I heard that this sequel was being made, I knew I had to see it in the theatre. And I was disappointed! I was blown away when I saw this, I actually thought it was better than the original! But looking back, it's not nearly as good as the original and not even as good as Die Hard 3. And this is due to one thing, John McTiernan.
Renny Harlin does a competent job at directing but doesn't have the style of McTiernan. That being said the action scenes are bigger and longer but not better.
Not a classic but still a good action flick!
Die Hard (1988)
Never Gets Old!
This movie never gets old, even though it's been 15 years since its original release. Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman play their roles to perfection and John McTiernan's direction is brilliant! A million times better than most of the action junk out there today. Get this on Five Star DVD for keeps.
Commando (1985)
Silly but entertaining
I grew up on '80's films like this! Sure it's silly, violent , and unbelievable but c'mon, this is classic stuff!
The one thing this film can be applauded for is its classic one liners "I let 'em go" "I eat Green Berets for breakfast" and the classic "Let off some steam Bennett!" hhahahaahaha!! still joke about it with my friends!
The Terminator (1984)
Arnie's breakout film
Forget the Exorcist, Halloween, or Friday the 13th! Arnie's cyborg freaked the living s**t outta me when I was a kid!
The special effects obviously don't hold up today but this is still a good ride! Good performances contributed by Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn too!
And of course the unstoppable sunavagun Ahnuld!!
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)
Good conclusion to the original trilogy
A good but not great conclusion to the original Star Wars trilogy. I did enjoy this more than the original Star Wars but still a step behind Empire. Good special effects and some new characters. For some reason though, I feel it drags for a bit especially the introduction to the Jabba character and the initial meeting with the Ewoks.
But minor quibbles, still very enjoyable!
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Best of the Star Wars epics
The best of the Star Wars epics! When I was younger I use to like Jedi the best because it concluded the trilogy, but looking back this is the best of all 5 in the series. Great new characters introduced, secrets revealed, a darker tone, and great direction by Irvin Kirshner.
New Best Friend (2002)
Uninteresting Whodunit
Not very interesting teen whodunit saved from being a turkey from some decent performances. The main cast consisting of Taye Diggs, Mia Kirshner, Dominique Swain and surprisingly Meredith Monroe are all good but the story is not very original.
Ng yan ji dai (1997)
Amusing and sweet film...
An amusing and sweet romantic film from hong kong surrounding teachers and their romances. The main character is named Lam (Jan Lam) who has accepted the daily grind of being a high school teacher and doesn't have much of a love life. Things change with the arrival of a new teacher Miss Lee (Cathy Tsui). A quiet and sweet film with good performances all around.
Hinukay ko na ang libingan mo! (1991)
Not a bad film but low budget does it in...
This is an easily forgettable action film from the Phillippines. Robin Padilla plays dual roles as twins going up against an evil crime lord. A typical filipino action film with loads of sex and violence. Not as bad as other Filipino action films but suffers from a low budget and typical storyline.
