Metallica: Some Kind of Monster (2004)
METALLICA'S "LET IT BE"
What was originally supposed to be a documentary following the band's new one-for-all, all-for-one approach to their latest album, "St. Anger", became much more. We witness (former bassist) Jason Newsted leave the band, (frontman) James Hetfield enter rehab, and the near break-up of one of the most prolific bands of the last 20 years.
Probably too long for non-fans, there are still some great moments, including appearances by Newsted and former guitarist and Megadeth frontman, Dave Mustane, as well as a glimpse at the audition process for a new bassist and some great concert footage.
The film very interestingly utilizes flashbacks to fill in information on the history of the band. It's a startling, touchy-feely look at the psychology of America's premiere metal band.
