Malevolent (2018)
Just no
This movie was bad on so many levels. The first 40 minutes were a complete Snoozefest. The rest of the movie was filled with the most idiotic decisions. I've ever seen in a horror movie, which is saying a lot. Why would the murderer of several children invite people to our home to investigate said children hunting it? And then the rest of them act like complete idiots who want to die. I really didn't care if any of them lived by the end of this movie. This could have been a great haunting story if it had been done completely different. I didn't even finish it because it got so bad at the end. Don't waste your time. The Haunting with Catherine Zeta-Jones was better than this crap.
28 Weeks Later (2007)
Too unbelievable
I just couldn't get past all the stupid and unbelievable things that had to happen for this movie to go where it did. The mom and dad at the beginning are hiding out in a farmhouse. The zombies find them and the dad has to abandon mom in order to survive. He watches her as she is trapped in a room with the zombies, and they drag her away. Eventually, he makes it back to London where his two children join him. They want a picture of their mom so they sneak into a forbidden zone to their old house to find one . Their mom has not only traveled a ridiculous amount of miles and is hiding in their old house but also only suffered a tiny scratch from her encounter with the zombies. Ridiculously unbelievable thing number one. She is taken to the military base where doctors determine she is infected, but somehow is not affected by the rage virus . So she could be the key to cure and is incredibly valuable. Yet she is left alone in a room without even a single guard so her husband is able to just roll right in and kiss her and is immediately infected. Ridiculously unbelievable thing number two. After that all hell breaks loose and the action is good yet somehow the dad keeps showing up where ever the kids are. Like he is just miraculously wherever they are. Ridiculously unbelievable thing number three. The acting is good and there is some great action sequences but the events leading up to the outbreak were just so unbelievable I couldn't get into the movie.
Let the Wrong One In (2021)
Awful
I love a good horror comedy but this is not it. Besides not being able to understand the actors over half of the time I couldn't root for any of them they were all so stupid. I had some hope when "Giles" showed up but he was underused so badly. I honestly didn't care if any of these people lived or died. Really I would have been just fine if they all died a horrible death. Not a good sign if there is not a single person who you want to survive. It sadly felt so short of its promising potential. There are so many better horror comedies out there. Just a frustrating show overall without a single good character.
Howard the Duck (1986)
Better than it has a right to be
I loved this movie when I was 8 so I rented it again now that I'm 29 to see how I'd feel now. I was pleasantly surprised when it was really not a bad movie. It's really pretty funny and I picked up on a lot of things I didn't when I was 8 (the naked duck in the tub with breasts, for instance). And Jeffrey Jones was phenomenal when possessed by the dark lord. He just ran with it and gave one of the best possessed villain performances I have ever seen. By the end I was laughing hysterically. It's certainly not the masterpiece Star Wars is but I think George Lucas got a bad rap. Everyone was expecting another movie like Star Wars but I think he was trying to have a little more fun. Because whatever else Howard the Duck is, it's a fun movie. It zips along at a nice pace and holds your attention. I'm going to have to find this movie and buy it because it really was a good time.
