The Middleman (2019– )
8/10
Surreal, moving, funny. Beautiful.
12 October 2020
I am very surprised by the low rating. If I have to guess the reason, it is probably the fact that the occurrences in the series cannot happen in real life. The plot involves time travelling, but not as in sci-fi movie, but in a poetic way, not trying to explain it somehow, because it does not matter. If this kind of thing doesn't bother you, you should definitely try this series, as well as the excellent Israeli film Jellyfish, which was also created by Etgar Keret and Shira Geffen.

As intriguing as the story may be, the film is just mediciore
12 June 2020
I was glad to learn about these women, regardless of inaccuracies that the story may have. The acting was certainly good and the movie had touching and interesting scenes. But, as it kept going, I got tired of its many Hollywoodian cliches. Really, I can't remembered when I last saw a film with so many embarrassingly implausible moments. Mostly, the single heroin among many apparently useless people, who solves any problem within seconds time and time again. Seriously, how many times are we supposed to tolerate such shallowness?

Forgiveness (2019)

Not funny. Not interesting. Just disappointing.

I liked "Maktub", but I can't see how anyone can like this one. I went to see it in theater with my mother and my niece. All three of us were bored and disappointed. Asides from a few somewhat funny moments, it was mainly waiting for the time to pass. There was a break and we decided to leave the theater. I haven't done this in many years.

Young Sheldon (2017–2024)
9/10
First show since forever which actually made me LAUGH
12 January 2018
I am truly puzzled by the grading distribution to this film. 25% of viewers gave it a 10, while 10% of the viewers gave it a 1! I have seen phenomena only for titles dealing with highly controversial issues. What made people hate this show is beyond me.

I've just finished watching the first season and thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, Sheldon could be annoying, but his point of view makes one both think and laugh. The other family members make the show all more interesting, each in their own unique way.

I loved young Sheldon. Hope the second season would be as good as the first one.

Was I the only one waiting in vain for the final sting?
8 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I agree with many things written here about direction, acting, pool shooting etc. What I don't get here is the plot.

The movie seems two consist of two parts which don't really connect, though you'd expect them to.

Fast Eddie took young Vince with him in order to teach him the tactics of losing and winning, with the final goal of betting on him against low odds and making big bucks for everyone.

After a series of hustling scenes, some involving Vince's girlfriend Carmen, Eddie falls for one himself. He becomes over-emotional about it in a way that totally doesn't fit his character so far. Then, against any sense, his frustration leads him to give up on Vince. He yells at Carmen and him to continue to Atlantic City on their own, as he can't teach Vince anything anymore.

At this point of the movie I was SURE that this dramatic move was a part of some big plan that Eddie had, and actually wondered how come Carmen and Vince bought it so easily. But as it turned out... there was no big plan. When they met in Atlantic City I was excepting something really interesting to happen and… nothing did.

As the movie ended when Eddie and Vince matching, Eddie saying "I'm back!", I thought that perhaps the whole journey was a scam hiding the fact that Eddie was still in good shape. I came here assuming that the FAQ would answer my questions. But… nothing? This is just it? Eddie financed the journey just to use Vince's talent for a short while and small money? And then Eddie decided to return playing? Is that all? Disappointed.

Genius (2017– )

Could have been much better
3 July 2017
The show was generally interesting, but the shifts in time were mostly unnecessary and often very confusing. They also made it difficult to follow and recognize the numerous scientists. On the other hand, the series ended while we have no idea about the fate of some of the most memorable characters and significant people in Einstein's life. A disappointment.

Philip Zimbardo should have gone to prison for this
25 October 2016
I can't believe he actually made a carrier out of this psychopathic experiment. This is all I have to say.

The minimum length for a review is 10 lines?

Is it OK to repeat the same lines again and again, Mr. correctional officer? Really, this movie gave me the creeps. I've heard about the experiment but that was nothing like how I imagined it. I thought the guards would get into their "role" gradually, not instantly. and I surely didn't imagine that the head of the experiment was a psychopath, who spent days watching people abuse and being abused in a prison that he himself has built.

If I need to say something about the movie itself, well, we didn't see any communication between the guards themselves. It wasn't clear how many of them actually participated, because we kept seeing the same one or two dominant figures. There was only one scene showing some of them in their free time, and one of them seemed unease with the situation. But we couldn't see even one scene of even one "guard" questioning the horrendous behavior of their peers towards other human beings.

Sorry, not convinced
10 August 2010
The film has some moments of interest and good acting, mainly by Andie MacDowell. However, all in all, I felt disappointment and boredom, which increased as the movie progressed.

The main idea in the movie is the dramatic change which the characters go through once Graham enters their lives. Well, I could not see anything about Graham that could drive such a change. Why is the introverted Ann suddenly opens up to this eccentric stranger? Why is her sister so keen to meet him, knowing basically nothing about him, and why does this meeting drive her to make a significant change in her life?

As for the Graham character itself, by the end of the movie we still know little about him, which makes it a bit awkward when Ann confronts him about his life. However, I didn't feel any interest in knowing more about him. The same goes for the other characters. Cynthia has been particularly shallow and didn't seem to have any motive in her life except resenting her sister.

I guess that the idea of talking about sex was sensational at the time, but now when it became trivial, we are left with a pretentious movie that gives little of what a good drama should.

Walk on Water (2004)
7/10
Worth watching, as long as you don't care for credibility
9 July 2009
This film could have been much better had it focused on German-Jewish relations a few decades after the Holocaust. This issue is certainly serious and interesting enough, and it hasn't been discussed in many other films.

However, Walk on Water insists on dealing also with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, homophobia, and marriage problems. This is just too much and none of the subjects receive proper treatment.

Further, the plot through much of the film is just unreasonable, with one story hole following another.

The characters are ridiculously stereotyped, and firstly the tough, racist, homophobic macho Mossad man, confronted with an easy going openly gay German and Palestinian. Knowing how miserable the lives of gay Palestinians are, one should bear in mind that these characters are in no way representative.

Yet, the movie was still worth watching for me, for the fresh, though inadequate point of view on German-Jewish relations. I guess people who are interested in Israel could find this movie interesting, though surely there are many films which give a much more realistic picture.
