Avatar (2009)

Mindblowing Masterpiece
23 December 2009
This is not just another 'I LOVED AVATAR' comment but here I go:

Avatar is a beautiful and awesome film. The aesthetics are insane, out of this world designs and environments. James Cameron did all his homework, the movie shows some serious screenplay and superb acting in both animated and human characters.

The message is not unique but it gets to you, at some points you wished you were in Pandora, you wished you could change things, you wished it wasn't true. There is definitely more in that film than just an amazing imaginary world with a beautiful breath taking environment and polished designs.

I honestly loved this film, it has everything I wanted to see: a mature and original script, good acting, a message to take with me when I left the cinema and impressive action and computer animated scenes. At some points all the 3D animations look real, the special effects are something you've never seen before. Guaranteed.

The acting is brilliant, not only by Sam Worthington or Sigourney Weaver but also Stephen Lang who did an excellent work as the 'bad guy'. So much enthusiasm with the animated characters too, they almost looked real.

Take my advice, watch this film and enjoy 'kinda long film' but it's sure worth it!

10 stars for a brilliant adventure!

Don't miss this train!

The Taking of Pelham 123 is an excellent film. I understand how some people might not like it that much because it's not really an action film and there isn't much to boil your blood. On the other hand get ready to spend the film at the edge of your seat because this is one of Tony Scott's best films.

Screenplay adaptation is fantastic, it's not entirely like the book but the script is intense and the dialogs are very good. Denzel Washington's acting is superb, that man literally nailed it. Travolta's acting is also good but don't expect his performance to be brilliant.

Something about this movie that makes it incredible is the great directing, and certain scenes are splendid. This movie sure offers great entertainment.

I'm more of a Ridley Scott fan than Tony Scott but with films like this Tony has nothing to envy his brother.

Take my advice and watch this excellent Scott Free production, you will not regret the ride.

District 9 (2009)

Earthlings, don't miss this film!
24 September 2009
I have read many critiques about this movie and let me say when it comes to saying whether this movie is great or not it could just easily be both. Prepare to watch a 'LOVE IT' or 'HATE IT' movie.

In my opinion this was another great sci-fi. A superb production by Peter Jackson with great direction that shows the movie as if it was a National Geographic documentary but it never stops being a real movie.

There isn't just action and amazing, seriously amazing special effects, 'District 9' has an interesting script more realistic than many sci-fi scripts I've seen.

We are not talking about a Hollywood super sci-fi production like 'Transformers' or 'Star Trek', however when it comes to entertaining the public and keeping you at the edge of the seat 'District 9' has nothing to envy those films.

It is not an action movie where everything you see is human fighting aliens non stop and a blood shed, quite the contrary there is a lot of interesting dialog and realistic scenarios, nonetheless you will see some mayor action and very brutal combat. I personally loved the equilibrium between good action scenes but also dialog and quality.

The acting is not one of the primary good points of the film, yet Sharlto Copley (main guy) did a pretty good job for a man that is not commonly scene on screen.

I gave this film a well deserved 8 stars and frankly I recommend anyone to watch it and I would certainly watch this twice.

Tarantino's Glorious Return
20 September 2009
Once again we witness a masterpiece crafted from the hands of Quentin Tarantino. 'Inglorius Basterds' strikes us with an original script, superb directing and creative blood spilling scenes. This movie is a 'must watch' regardless of the very graphic bloody scenes common in the Tarantino cinema.

*WARNING* - If you don't like Tarantino films stay away from this one, because this is Quentin at his best. You won't hear such a bald statement as 'this is the new Pulp Fiction' but entertainment, intrigue and 'black humor' is guaranteed.

Not the best of acting by Brad Pitt by he sure does a good job and he definitely achieves Tarantino's expectations. Loyal to his cinema, Quentin shows some songs used in the Score of Kill Bill vol.1/2 and similar western music like 'From Dusk 'till Dawn'.

DO NOT MISS THIS FILM or you will most likely miss one of the best movies 2009 will offer us.

Brüno (2009)
7/10
A hilarious, gay return
18 September 2009
Once again Sasha Baron Cohen shows the most homophobic and conservative version of American society filled with laughs, celebrities and of course homosexual intercourse. This is not an undercover critique master piece but it doesn't end with Borat's legacy either.

'Brüno' is an entertaining film that turns cruel facts into hilarious scenes, Sasha Baron Cohen exposes the worst faces of American society by becoming his own creation, the homosexual celebrity Brüno.

This movie is not just 'a one hour and a half gay porno' but rather a sensible critique to a homophobic and unstable America, and why not? Bono, Snoop Dogg, Slash from Guns n' Roses included.

Prepare to laugh and be amazed by the intrepid and charismatic gayest side of this comedian with an Oxford diploma.

The Informers (2008)
4/10
Informed but never entertained
18 September 2009
The informers is not a bad movie, but it is definitely not a movie you would like to see twice. Various stories are told and lives are exposed in this film but nothing shown really gets to the viewer. It's main aim is to show the very essence of some of the luxurious lives of California big shots at the end of the 80s.

While intensive drug abuse, cheap rock n' roll and sex is going on the director shows confrontational situations within families, adolescents that have everything and nothing at the same time and Micky Roorke, that was probably in this film as a source of information about the 80s cocaine as the new trend and career downfall. No complains with K. Basinger and Billy Bob though there is no mayor performance in the cast. Script could have been much better and it's far from original.

There is literally no need for anyone to watch this film unless you want to see the dark side of fame and Hollywood which is definitely a cliché.

Knowing (2009)

Ending Failure
21 August 2009
I'm not the greatest of Nicholas Cage's fans... personally I think after 'NEXT' there was no need for another 'I SEE THE FUTURE, I CAN SAVE THE WORLD' movie and then the inevitable happens and no one changed anything and many innocent people just die. 'Knowing' was an interesting film, the story wasn't the most original but it managed to keep me awake at 3am, however the ending was probably one of the worst endings I have ever seen and trust me i've seen 'Funny Games'. If the movie ended 20 minutes before and then they made a 'Knowing 2' where they show how they save the Earth, without having any relation whatsoever with Aliens or any biblical suggestion to the Adam & Eve theory with two kids that were chosen to see the future, that would have been MUCH better than the terrible ending of this movie.

I mean seriously, you don't need to see the future to know that the ending of that film just ruined everything, luckily you can't blame Cage for that.
