Love Soup (2005–2008)

Purely For The Surburban Snob......
25 August 2007
If you live in the suburbs, are relatively well off financially, and do not really have much contact with the city life of england, then this is the comedy for you. Not something a mass audience would go for, but if you're like these characters they show you'll love it to pieces. Overall this is a comedy that the snobs at the BBC will sit back and laugh at for their pleasure and only a select few of the publics. Comparing it to BBC Comedys like Only Fools and Horses, Fawlty Towers, Black Adder, and other classics, this series tends to drift away from the BBC's regular product to the audience and deliver to somewhat of a folk culture.

Brookside (1982–2003)

A Fantastic Soap but a Poor TV Slot
5 September 2006
Brookside was one of Britains best soaps/shows before it was axed in the 21st Century......izzit, izzit? Yes it was. Having story lines that were equal to Corrie or an (up to 2003) Eastenders. Unfortunately, Channel 4 did not see it this way. Putting it on at completely the wrong time of day proved to be the death of what could have been Britain's bestest hit soap. Whilst Brookside was equally as good as what today are known as Britains's most popular, they hired fantastic actors, story lines that one can easily compare with, and is sorely missed to this day. I would love for this soap to be brought back by c4, ditching crappy hollyoaks for some real story lines worth watching.

WWF One Night Only (1997 TV Special)

The British PPV Vince McMahon Has Never Been Able to Follow
15 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This is without a doubt the British ppv the wwf/wwe has/was never able to follow.

This is the PPV which saw some fine wrestling matches to end all fine wrestling matches, but also saw the conflict begin between the Hart Foundation and the official birth of Degeneration-X that the USA at the time envied beyond belief.

Seeing fantastic wrestling from Vader, Owen Hart, The Undertaker, Bret Hart, Triple H and Mick Foley + others, the main event seeing the European title exchange hands from the British Bulldog to Shawn Michaels left British fans and European fans seething anger and hatred towards the WWE and DX. They were absolutely livid, (you have to watch it to understand why).

Having seen the build up inc. a story which saw Davey Boy Smith (Bulldog) claim he was going to win this match for his cancer aided sister + other family and his country, the shocking outcome saw the referee end the match due to a supposed knee injury that was causing Smith serious harm, + the birth of DX. DX started by humiliating and assaulting Diana Smith, but saw the Hart Foundation rush to the rescue, but the fans were too livid to see anything good of the h.foundation given the hatred of the world outside Canada their storyline portrayed at this time.

Although this provided a confusing situation for Bret Hart to be in for the rest of the year, which saw McMahon the same month ask for Bret's resignation from the wwf, a highly entertaining recommended to all the world.

A PPV that Vince has never been able to follow!

Survivor Series (1997 TV Special)

The Most Controversial Event of All Time
3 February 2006
Probably the greatest PPV for argument of all time.

Of course this event is not only remembered for the infamous 'montreal screw-over, it signifies the return of a then injured Stone Cold Steve Austin to the ring to regain intercontinental championship from Owen Hart, and other great matches Vince McMahon lined up.

This is also in my opinion remembered for careful viewers, to see it is the first tme Vince McMahon left the commentators seat to be announced officially as the owner of the company. Well we all know why now don't we....

This is the final display of the Hart Foundation (despite the death of Brian Pillman a month before), as they united to see Bret down the ring, but yet failed to notice why Vince was hanging around ringside, until the infamous screw over, seeing Bret spit in Vince's face, and watching what seemed to be a bewildered Shawn Michaels escorted out the stadium by a blatantly guilty Gerald Brisco.

Most definitely worth the watch.

Somewhat Compelling, Somewhat Disappointing
10 September 2005
Hitlers War is a film which states the Nazi Dictators rise to power in Germany and how he begun to declare war upon the world.

Robert Carlye's performance however does not even compare to that of Bruno Ganz's in, Downfall. He has done very little research into Hitler's form of speech, conduct towards the German people. The script is extremely well written, but due to Carlye's lack of skills in this area, the film can be quite disappointing in some areas.

I can indefinitely recommend this film to any1, however I urge you to also watch The Downfall, seeing an actor who clearly studied and researched Hitler to deliver the full effect he could.

Another disappointing feature was the fact that it was filmed in English and not German. I cannot grasp the full effect of a Nazi when translated into English, it doesn't sound right.

Perhaps Carlye wasn't the best choice of actor for the part. However, the film's writing is superb. Hitlers evil intentions were clearly displayed, and also his struggle through the Jewish running of Germany. The film displays how his good intentions for Germany became out of control and turned purely evil.

I do recommend this film to watch if you are interested in how the Nazi's gained their power, but if you are easily offended by sub-standard acting, don't watch it.

Probably the best Teen TV we ever saw!
9 June 2005
The fresh prince was indefinitely a fantastic TV program. The actions were harmless to youth giving them no ridiculous ideas or implicating violent actions and was a simple half hour entertainment. Whilst the idea of a young teenager hacking off his family in theory seems like a bad influence, the fresh prince put it across in a friendly, kind and gentle way. Even the older generations look at this program and see it as high entertaining. Despite the fact that a rubbish actress (compared to the first) was brought in to replace Vivian in 1993, this program was always entertaining and suitable for all the family. Will Smith's ongoing humour throughout is what supposedly kept the program going, but the other actors had their own way of doing things which made it even more entertaining to watch.

Can't wait till the rest of the DVD's come out!

A program recommended to all the family!

Hustle (2004–2012)
Why we can't have more episodes a season
6 May 2005
Tony Jordan was briefly confronted in a low key column of a tabloid newspaper about why there are only 6 of Hustle.

If you are like me and desperately want it on for longer, Jordan claims that he is a Story consultant for Eastenders, writer for Bafta winning drama Spooks, and a writer of Hustle, which means holiday breaks are limited. He just can't find the time. A shame!

Hustle has become one of my most favourite TV dramas of all time. Although the last episode of series 2 seemed to be a slight rip-off of Entrapment, it was probably the best one they ever did! However it does leave the question of how can they top it?

Anti climax of the year?
28 March 2005
Any 1 agree? This film had extremely high expectations to meet regarding a highly successful previous film. Unfortunately this film did not meet those expectations by a long shot! Whilst the beginning of the film seemed to be quite intriguing with the audience wondering what the film was going to lead to, the rest of the film focused little on George Clooney, and heavily upon the relationship between Brad Pitt's character and Mrs Michael Dougla....sorry, Catherine Zeta Jones's character. The inclusion of new characters seemed to bring the film down to something of a low key drama saga, having little character background to focus on, or simply too much to take in.....Oh yeah, message to Bruce Willis, stick to Die Hard, playing reality in film doesn't suit you!

The Bachelor (2002– )

10 February 2005
I watched the latest series of the bachelor week by week but was out on the final night, where Nicole and (someone...?) were in the final two for Anthony's decision. The git's at BBC3 aren't showing any replays which stinks! Any1 know who won? I hope it was Nicole.

This show had a classy sense to it this time round. At least some decent ho's...sorry, ladies inn-nit....!

they are making me write at least ten lines for this post and am out of steam so you have to forgive me for rambling on a bit here. Am sure you can understand am just trying to make up space so I can submit this bloody thing......!

The Grudge (2004)

The Exorcist/The Ring/Final Destination All into One
8 November 2004
No Spoilers, but did anyone else see this as a complete rip off of all previous horror films???

The one in particular that I saw a great resemblance to was The Ring. The story seemed very similar and the actions and movements from the central theme characters just seemed too much the same. I suggest anyone who hasn't seen The Ring, should! It's better, plus you'll see the closeness.

Horrific images etc etc to me were taken from the Exorcist. Who else was just waiting for the characters' head to turn around anti-clockwise??

Final Destination speaks for itself. See that film, and The Grudge becomes just about predictable. Unfortunately, something nearly all horror films do of late.

When are we going to get something original?????

Cameron, Scorsese, Save Us, Save Us Now!

A Darn Good Reason for Bill To Get an Award For This...
13 July 2004
Because he put up with filming so much s***!

Why did this make such a hit with the critics?

Last time I listen to them!

Respect man! Anyone else could've killed themselves for what Coppolla put you through. Of course not Francis, (Sofia).

Definitely the worst movie I 've seen in ages. It never really got going, same shot forever.

Something similar to the Avant-Garde, not quite entertaining as it shold have been.

Responses to this welcome!

Rocky V (1990)
4/10
Why Rocky VI would be a predictable storyline, and rubbish! (Tiny spoiler to previous films enclosed.)
29 June 2004
Warning: Spoilers
Where would Rocky VI start? He's been training his son to fight and has become as respectable as his dad, but he meets an opponent who is seemingly indestructible (The return of Ivan Drago?), who therefore murders his son or does a case of GBH on him in the ring, so out of guilt he tries to commit suicide, but Adrian stops him and convinces him to fight having had a dream about her son after his death telling her he has to avenge him, by fighting one last time, and ends where liver disease finally catches up with Paulie and kicks the bucket by finally drinking himself to death, but says a heart felt sorry to Adrian b4 he does??

And lets face it, a popular face would play Rocky's opponent, The Rock? Vin Diesel? The film would maybe be good if Dolph Lungren strutted his stuff once more.

Stallone admitted on the Video Commentary to the Rocky 25th Anniversary DVD that he will never have the ability to write another film with the same hungry heart that went into Rocky.

Rocky V was a calamity on so many levels. Stallone looked older and knackered (he looked better in demolition man), as if he couldn't give a care about the film, referring back to the previous films to get a boost was a sad and cheesy way to gain audience attention and who really cared about Tommy Gunn? Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang, Ivan Drago, were ones the audiences attention would be focused on as much as Rocky would be, because they were a threat to him, a threat to Rocky's success. Tommy Gunn was no threat, he was exactly what the press in the film said, he's Rocky's robot, Rocky taught him, what chance did he stand?? Yeah Rock was brain damaged, but he taught the kid most of what he knows. In one word, Predictable.

Reffering back to the old chapel, old streets of Philadelphia (spelling?), Mickey, the infamous run up the steps and thru the streets, showed Stallone was out of ideas, or he was lacking enthusiasm for the film. Rocky IV was great because it was fresh and new, something we hadn't seen before, Apollo vs Drago, an exciting main character of the film taking the stage instead of Rock for a short while, a side of rock we hadn't seen before, not really paying attention to Adrian, showing he could have done it without her words of wisdom like we'd seen in the previous two, and Dolph Lungren looked pure!

Some advice to Stallone, leave it alone!....

Rocky V (1990)

Could've been better! He was supposed to die!
18 May 2004
Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler Alert I have to say that when I first saw the movies Rocky 1-3, I was in bliss. The story's were brill. Something that made you never want to see the end of it, went away wishing the film had another half hour left or so. Rocky 4 was 50/50. Stallone wanted to make a movie about change, hardly see any change apart from the gloryhunter fans at the end going from Drago's to Rocky's! Dunno why they had to kill Apollo off, could've just sidelined him with injury or something, but in my view the pace and energy of the fight made up for it, and one more thing, no mention of Mickey??? Apart from the flashback sequence. And then, Rocky V. Another Rocky is always a pleasure in my view, but the movie could've been better! Stallone stated that originally Rocky was supposed to die in his last fight with tommy gunn, but changed weeks prior to production, claiming the film is about recovering from a disaster, which is a great plot to go by, but why did he have to have a street fight? I like the idea of the sadness that he ignored his son by paying loads of attention to Tommy, then tommy went awol with george duke, but at least he could have had Apollo or Creed's manager(I forget the name) train him for one last fight in the ring, and then beats tommy gunn, wins the title, and wins back his fortune. Or even he died in the ring after he beat him, and had millions cheer him on or mourn him as he went.

Rocky VI???? nnnnnnoooooo! sly's too old, fat, slow and lost his talent in writing. 5 is enough. His career's going down the crap shoot, he should just relive his past glory and call it day.

Oh yeah, the actor who plays Gunn should've been the one who really retired! haha.

Will somebody please explain the ending???
21 November 2003
Just seen this film and do not understand the ending for the life of me! I know it may well could be simple and I'm thinking way too hard about it, but from what i could see, the door is open for The Matrix 4!

Neo wasn't killed off, just drained from the battling etc, Morpheus was overwhelmed to see the war ended, Zion is free. But what the hell about the oracle and the matrix architect thing at the end, 'will we see neo again? I suspect so.' ay???!!! Trinity's dead, although she could easily be brought back to life through another film. So what's the ending?? Shouldn't we have seen Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity at the end admiring their work??

Please someone help me!

Had it's moments, but not quite IT! Bit of a spoiler!
11 August 2003
Warning: Spoilers
Terminator 3 has been one of the most anticipated films to have been made in the last decade. The world sat on the edge of it's seat as the time drew nearer to the release date. "Arnie is Back!" "This film kicks ass", i tell ya man i heard it all.

That was until I heard that the reason Cameron did not make this film, is because he read the script and felt it was sub-standard. uh oh!

Then I saw the film. And i really have to say, a VERY big dissapointment.

The film was two hours long, it felt like it was only half an hour. The action, well although special effects play such a huge part, it seems T2's more basic moves were better! And where was the classic music in the opening sequence??

The actors, Arnie. Always a pleasure to c him, but not quite the performance he gave previously in T2. John Stahl.....what??? rubbish! surely they could have found someone better! I know edward furlong is in rehab, but i'd rather wait however long it takes for him to come clean and have him in this role, other than anyone else! Everyone else is ok though, T-X did cool.

The director, Jonathan Mostow. How many films has he made as big screens?? Not many i'd say. He lacks alot in this film, something like Matrix Reloaded, too much action, less story.

The characters. John Connor, well written character, drug abuse, life on the edge, somewhat lost in himself, brilliant writing there. But he did not seem anxious enough to see the t-800 once more. You'd expect more from him. His wife, what is it with hollywood and it's new heroine style? it's lost it's touch! Sarah Connor, deceased. WWWHHHYYY??? she was the heart and soul of this film series, she's a primary character, why did they kill her off?? Disgusting. And then, Arnie. He looked too human to be the terminator, the previous ones took time to learn the ways of the world, he grasped it within five minutes, uh uh, no no no no no, a big slacking. And did anyone notice he was sometimes out of breath "i..am... a.. machine!" okay he's a robot, but the previous ones spoke like computers not humans, not until the end anyway. Mess up!

The story, Very sub-standard. The story moves too quickly. You don't have time to grasp it the way the previous films do. When the t-800 talks of Connors future death due to his boyhood experience with the previous terminator's, and how they only post-poned the war, this is a key factor in the story, it needed to be exaggerated more, it wasn't, 30 seconds tops, and your expected to be intrigued. Oh please! Where's the suspense?? The death of sarah connor, told in ten seconds, no intrigueing of the story, no emotion to the audience to say that John has been left to teach himself, it needed more exaggeration, stretch it out a bit more.

Overall, the film looked like a spoof, some of it was more funny than scary, the story was not good enough, the action was too fast moving leaving no time to make a lasting impression And why bring in the US government, we've seen enough of them in these type of films!!! They've exhausted themselves.

I hope to god the actors, story, and mise-en-scene come together if T4 is ever to be made! James Cameron is needed badly, and if anything, one final blast to finish the story of the Terminator, a film to eradicate the existance of T3. Arnie is ageing now, and politics is heading his way. So ppl had better move fast!

Overall mark, to be fair, 7/10, but could have been better by miles!

The story is tremendous....The graphics are EXCELLENT!
13 January 2003
The lord of the rings the two towers is one of the greatest fims in my book for the outstanding amount of effort that has been put into it! The computer graphics that were input to the film were just mindblowing! Including the firey pits of hell, the walky talky trees! (this was really cool by the way!), the soldiers of doom, the kingdom in which they stand, the fields in which they crawl, just simply everything!

The character of Aragon is also much better developed than the first film, proving him to be more heroic and somewhat the strongest. Frodo is still pretty much the same from where we left him, although at times is more confident and tougher a cookie than before! Sam is still as big a twit as he was to begin with...... but don't you just love him??????

The two hobbits are also a bundle of laughs at times, with a sense of sympathy among them for being so defenseless.

The return of the king i expect will only give out 10 times more than what it has in the second film, but until we see it, all the respect in the world to Peter Jackson for an outstanding direction!

The Godfather (1972)
10/10
Sorry guys, no part 4....ever!
28 December 2002
I am sorry t say that the commentary made by francis coppola at the end of part 3 on the DVD editon clearly states that for the last ten years of Mario Puzo's life they discussed a possible part 4 of the godfather, hoping that they could evolve upon the rise the corleone family business, as a whole. I.e.: how they gained political influence among society, how michael grew distant and how the rest of them drew close, and then skip 40-50 years ahead to vincent corleone losing the bussiness that was worked upon so hard to gain, through drugs and loss of all political influence and respect, whilst haunted by the loss of his cousin love, and ironically have one final scene with Michael and vincent before michael died. i.e.: this would be a part 2 narrative.

This was majorly discussed, but time was not on puzo's side to write it, and francis refuses this to be done without puzo.

One might say "How about Scorsese?" but lets face it, this was a coppola/puzo thing. Scorsese would take it off track like any other director, even someone like Speilburg couldn't do it!

It's a crying shame as this seemed like an all time classic to erase the existence of part 3's disaster!

Remember, not an MGM production!
9 December 2002
Sean Connery produced this one as oppose to MGM, as he asked them to let him make one more, but they refused and continued with Moore, so he said "Ok, I'll make my own!" So he did, but another Thunderball! Lets cut him some slack though! Goerge Lazenby was a hopeless bond, no lies! And he didn't have multi-millions to back it up! Plus we miss Desmond Ilgwin (spelling!), I.E.: Q. Had they let him make Octopussy, things in my view would have been different!

Respect to Connery for trying, but not quite what one may be looking for in a bond film!

One of the greatest!
4 December 2002
Pacino puts on definitely his best performance ever in this classic love story, where he plays a blind man who is aided by Chris O'Donell.

The scene which steals the show is either his courtroom sags or the dancing with the woman with the classic tune!!

A bit soppy, but still kicks ass! Recommended to anyone.

Patronising at times, but very good point made
4 December 2002
It's an excellent portrail of cults that are around the world and how they brainwash their children into becomin very sickly minded, and how they struggle to come out of it and keep their sanity.

Definately worth watching! take my word for it!
