A Savannah Haunting (2021)
Dreadful Dreck
Amateurish in every aspect, from the awful acting to the cliched events and to the derivative writing...all the way to the embarrassing direction. The only positive thing about this is that it does eventually get to the end credits. But it's an exhausting chore to get there. The creator of this mess is obviously more in awe of himself than anyone else involved or any viewer, and some of his choices are certainly questionable...especially the lesbian scene that comes from nowhere and seems to serve no purpose in being there whatsoever other than to give him some sort of thrill. Seems very icky and sleazy. Avoid this at all costs.
Queer as Folk (2000)
Better Now
Watched when it was originally on and liked it, but didn't love it. Even though I was the age of the characters, I didn't feel that it represented the community that I knew and the sex was too graphic. Watching now, I appreciate it more for the stories and that's what I'm mostly focused on. I definitely feel that Melanie is the most honest and stable character, and stays true throughout the series with her personality and beliefs. Everyone else is kind of swinging back and forth and some storylines get dropped altogether (Ted's secret obsession with Michael in season one, for example). And now with fresh eyes...I cannot stand Michael. He's so moony over Brian that I don't see how ANYONE could stay with him...he's like an obsessive stalker and is so pathetic...whiny, selfish, needy, nosy, and all around nauseating. Melanie and Emmett are the best written characters by far.
Jared from Subway: Catching a Monster (2023)
Rochelle Rochelle
Jared is a horrible person who should never be released. His actions were despicable. That much is true.
However....
I do not believe for a minute that Rochelle was trying to expose him simply to save children. She comes across as a vain, narcissistic, self serving fame seeker. I feel that she simply wanted to expose him to become famous herself and when things weren't moving fast enough by the FBI, she feared someone else would get there first so she took matters into her own hands to make sure she got the story first.
And my god how many times did she have to tell us how beautiful people think she is? Jeeze.
Save yourself and just watch episode 3. You can pass over her overacting and dramatic scenes ("excuse me, I didn't expect to start crying"...putting her long manicured nails over her eyes...ugh)
Amityville II: The Possession (1982)
Rutanya Alda nearly ruined it
Rutanya Alda was hammier than a Christmas ham. Good lord her overacting nearly ruined this movie completely for me. Her big eyes, her screams, her (spoiler) insanely hilarious dying... just horrible! Burt Young comes in 2nd place terrible. Jack Magner was pretty decent eye candy but a bit over the top himself with the acting. Actually the only one who comes out unscathed is Diane Franklin. Mediocre horror movie could have been much better with a little recasting. I did appreciate that they reused the same exterior house, but in telling the "prequel" story I wish they would've stuck closer to the actual story and not gone with the goofy Exorcist makeup effects.
Fear Street: 1994 (2021)
Writing is the biggest downfall
I was ok with the acting, the cinematography, even the lighting and the (overdone) music. But the writing was awful. There was no nineties feel to it, it felt pervy in more than a few parts (high school girls in just their bras making out and feeling each other up??? Ewwww), dialogue etc we're terrible. And then the plausibility of the wrecked car not being towed away, a teenage girl steals a cop's gun without him noticing, teens stealing an ambulance and driving it all over town and nobody's looking for it, a high school boy has keys to the pharmacy, etc?????
Death on the Nile (2022)
As bad as everyone says
Dull. Bad acting. Incredibly overdone CGI. Gal Godot is a horrible actress and I can only imagine how she's getting these featured parts; Kenneth Branagh is disgustingly vain with his projects and is nowhere as good as he thinks he is; Arnie Hammer is beautiful to look at but is as bland as a sheet of copy paper. Everything in the movie is overblown cartoonish CGI that doesn't come anywhere near looking realistic. Skip this and watch the original.
Law & Order: Organized Crime (2021)
Too Woke
Love Meloni and was excited to see him come back. But this, like everything else in the past year, is trying too hard to appease the liberals (of which I am one). Even I, as a gay liberal, am so tired of feeling pandered to lately in tv and movies. It never feels natural, always forced, and literally everyone around these characters are so accepting... not at all how it is in real life. I'm only on the 3rd episode and already there's interracial relationships, mixed kids, Stablers boss is a black lesbian with a partner who's pregnant...I'm expecting any moment for a transgender character to pop up. Too in your face "look how cool, accepting and timely we are!"
Coming 2 America (2021)
Horribly Disappointing
The movie looks cheap with some bad and obvious CGI. There is no charm like the original had. The actors seem like they're doing an imitation of their characters, if that makes sense. Too many lame and recycled jokes. And there was a strange scene near the beginning that felt totally out of place where they jam Morgan Freeman, En Vogue, Salt N Peppa and Gladys Knight all into a five minute period that felt horribly forced and painfully unfunny. Which pretty much sums up the whole movie...horribly forced and painfully unfunny.
Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel (2021)
Interesting at first but then you feel cheated
Starts out very interesting but they wait until you've invested four hours to tell you that the hatch was off off the water tank. They had already shown the interview with the maintenance guy in the first episode but waited until the last 20 minutes to show him saying the hatch was off when he found her. Why keep showing everyone saying she couldn't have gone in by herself because the hatch was closed???? There was no mystery in the end. Just saying that from the beginning would save the viewer four hours!!!! Such a cheat to the viewers!!!!
Victor Crowley (2017)
Let it die, please
Loved the first one. 2nd was so-so. 3rd got back on track. Then there's this...
Total mess of a movie. I know it's supposed to be over the top and silly, so don't say "she just doesn't get it." I know fully well what it's supposed to be. That doesn't excuse the mess that it is. Some of the acting was fine, but jeeeeezzzeee...tone it down some. At least make some characters likable. Everyone was so obnoxious that you seriously couldn't wait for them to die, and all were embarrassing stereotypes. Thank God the movie was only about 80 minutes long...I couldn't suffer through much more. And obviously no budget...the entire movie was obviously on a stage and setting half of the thing inside a crashed plane didn't help matters. Put Victor to bed and let him rest in peace.
2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams (2010)
Simply Atrocious
I cannot find one single thing that was good about this movie. I enjoyed the first, and own it. I was looking forward to seeing this one, but this movie fails on every single level.
I am not surprised in the least that Robert Englund is not involved in this. Though he has made some stinkers in his career, he had the sense to steer clear of this one. Lin Shaye should have known better, but she must have needed a check. Bill Moseley has never been worse in his life. As for the rest of the bunch...the "acting" is horrible from every person involved. Technically the camera work is amateurish, the sound is everywhere except where it should be, and there appears to be no director or script to be found. I would mention set design, but there is no set. This is literally filmed in a field with some tents. No joking, just tents. I read the film cost about $400,000 to make, but I see nothing that would run over $400.
Every single person involved in the making of this should be ashamed.
Hands down, one of (if not the) worst movies I have ever seen.
