Les Cyclades (2022)
awful & totally unnecessary
I kept watching, out of respect and simple curiosity, way too embarrassed by the lame dialogues, but hoping they might get better. Most acting was done right... but then, a few minutes into the second hour of testing my patience watching, the octopus scene made it unbearable. Why did Kristin Scott Thomas have to enjoy smashing that poor creature against the wall? What purpose did it serve to the script? Shame on anyone who encouraged or agreed to it.
Or is it a metaphor for the fact that intelligent people (symbolised by the octopus) would have their brains totally inside out after watching this film? Seriously, why was that scene even allowed in the first place? Unacceptable.
The Amazing Maurice (2022)
A lovely surprise!
A nice adaptation of the unique style of Terry Pratchett's book (never an easy challenge), well scripted, beautifully animated - such amazing images! The scenery is so impressive, some shots are worth framing as paintings.
For anyone loving - and having - a healthy sense of humour, this is definitely a treat. Witty characters so wonderfully animated and flawlessly voiced over by talented actors (hats off for the casting!); surprising plot twists, good jokes, as well as quite serious punchlines and food-for-thought type of moral, The Amazing Maurice has got a bit and more of everything needed for a lovely and unforgettable cinematic experience. Thoroughly enjoyed, highly recommended for all ages!
Please read the book - it's totally worth it. Or reread it - you'll be in for a treat.
So...enjoy!
Adoration (2019)
A gem.
This is what cinema is supposed to be like. Flawless acting, transcending imagery, touching story, shockingly human. All-in-all, so hauntingly beautiful.
Thank you!
Merci!
Bedankt!
Motherless Brooklyn (2019)
Hat(s) off!
Riveting from beginning to end. Smart, beautiful and clean, well acted and directed, plus all that jazz. 10/10, Edward Norton! 👏🏻
The Man Who Killed Don Quixote (2018)
Fantastic!
Absolutely brilliant: story, sets, actors - flawless each one of them. Thank you for this gem! "When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams - this may be madness. Too much sanity may be madness - and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!" Miguel de Cervantes - Don Quixote
