Fantastic... Not Flawless but darn proud to call this our own
8 June 2008
Look no further, without doubt the best Australian film you can easily get your hands on. Not very objective I realise but really worth a Sunday afternoon (or more) to immerse yourself. I believe people who dislike this film are expecting too much action or fast paced excitement. Each can be found here but are spread amongst some more drawn out themes. My big gripe was the opening scenes on the train - just didn't seem too plausible in Sydney. Getting inside the lead character's head should be at the heart of most film and here we get a frightfully painful perspective of life that few ever experience. Gritty and realistic acting are the foundation that breathe some life back into the once floundering Australian cinema. I think I can hear a pulse again...

Magic dirt cinema
14 November 2006
The daughter who every parent whispers "I'm glad she isn't mine" is on your door step... and she hasn't left her keys. Katrina the nightmare in leather boots and retreating skirt lines is the chaotic centre of Paul Goldman's third major feature. Life crumbles around Katrina when her beloved brother commits a terrible crime. His conviction steels her own into a focus her trite existence has never known; to get him out. But Katrina's skills aren't the ones you were taught at school, at least not in the classroom. Sex is a weapon and manipulation is as reflexive as a mouse trap to Kat, bridges burning as she accelerates through a drunken haze. The ensuing tailspin tears loose the few friends she has leaving her with desperate measures to succeed.

I generally don't like raver movies but.....
19 January 2005
O.K, this is no cinematic great but firstly (I know this may be hard for some mainstream Americans) but you have to compare this movie to other Australian productions. In other words firstly ignore the buckets of trash we're exposed to from our movie industry.. And compare with standout exceptions like e.g Lantana,Goddess of 1967', etc. This movie I can say did captivate me emotionally, aurally and visually. Didn't sit well with the main character sister's drug death, needed greater depth and perception in reality. I really didn't know anything about the film before I sat down (except dance music) so I was surprised by the level of dramatic elements in it.. Quite possibly "Go" dulled my radar??? A overly fun film this isn't but hey I'm proud of this particular level of achievement for an Aussie film.

What a Rocky Road
18 November 2002
O.k, Radiohead is by far my favorite band. Casts a fair hand over most behind the scenes chaos a group can experience. Admittedly, I haven't seen many docos, but I think this nails it right between the eyes. Note the change in character/temperament as the doco progresses. Can't imagine the 105+ shows in year and a half, not anyone's idea of fun. This rockumentary is almost warning to bands opting to tour heavily... A memorable part(or most terrible)is the million flashes when the band have their photos taken towards the end. Many great songs too like Follow Me Around, Palto Alto and Exit Music; all these in full. Sorry, really a film of interest for fans only... P.S What was that guy thinking at that bar in New York~ "Creep, radio *#*!head" as Thom walks away...? Very weird.

The Waterboy (1998)

Oh God, what have I done?
18 November 2002
How funny was that Gilmore movie? Or smashing kids in dodge ball on Billy Madison? Well, lets watch 'The Waterboy'.... (90mins later)... oh god, I'm gunna cry. O.k, until I came to this web site everyone, and I mean everyone I asked (which was quite a lot) said the Waterboy was O.k. Oh Christ, I could believe how anyone could purge entertainment from this tripe. It is just insane, I could not see the jokes or rather I could see the pathetic tweeks of giggles trying to probe me. No, not this cookie. Anyway, this movie is on my blacklist eternally. Please don't watch it, even for curiosities' sake calling... "You can do it!" ... NO YOU CANT!!!

The 'U Turn' Returns
17 November 2002
Yes I can be a bit snotty sometimes about movies, but this obvious mini movie (scenes fade black for the ads) made for enjoyable if semi-predictable viewing. Call me naive but this did last the distance interest wise for me. Maybe my 'Big Brother' dark side was calling? Comparisons to the more darkly humourous 'U-Turn' immediately rise, but what the hell, its' an engrossing subject trapped inside a crazy town... I hope I'm not the only one? Was it just me or everytime Jay Mohr, (seen him before on something?) actually had a good facial expression, they pull a wierd camera angle and lose it? Lisa Edelstien has an attractive allure and made her character the most believable in my opinion. Overall worthwhile, with time to kill afterwards... 6/10

Spacy Kevin
17 November 2002
Who's the man~~~ what's that I hear? A resounding cry of Kevin? Well if you didn't shout for the 'usual suspect' I'd recommend changing your medicated prescription. Anyway this Is no first class movie, just a very well produced story, that is almost believable. Considering its about an Alien your probably wondering what the? All acting is top stuff and also the first I've seen a balanced, sarcastic Alien. Just enjoyable is all I can say and almost for the whole family (if not for the scene later in the movie). SEVEN STARS

Don't...go
17 November 2002
Tim Burton's magic and imagination are always stupendous. A great cast blend to create the timeless recipe of all the romance, comedy, feel-good moments and action you could dream for. It sounds like a sit-com and by golly, those set houses look it too! This is a must see film and still my favourite. I don't know what else to say, I nearly cry every time I watch it. Please tell me there is someone with that same line 'Dont go' depp uses going through their head after all these years; let me know please!

If you read this a while ago I just want to say....geez I really sucked writing back then.. if I can compare any better now!

Overboard (1987)

I cannot, I repeat cannot spite this movie
17 November 2002
It's a part of me forever now. Thanks alot to the neighbour who never returned this video, gave it to us; the store shut down soon anyway. 40-60 times (no joke) watching this movie through my childhood firmly entrenched Goldie and Kirts' dialoge into my brain. With that said, Overboard is a delightful fest of fun worth a watch or 3 (no more please.) If your passionate about caviars' quality, you'll never forget Goldies' early scene. Or sympathise wholehearedly with looking after 4 rambunctious boys. Just the 'usual' Riches to Rags story for most of the family, no comedy spared.
