Stay (2005)
An underrated, clever film of 2005
For the few people that saw this film, it seems that people either love it or hate it, but that's the case with a lot of films these days. I thought the film was brilliant just because of how well thought out it was and it keeps you guessing till the end. Some movie goers aren't patient enough for a film like that.
A lot of the hits, at least in the states, lately are movies that don't require much thinking at all. They're just films that are entertainment and action alone.
Here's a brief explanation of the movie, if you don't want to know what happens, skip this paragraph. Henry Letham (Ryan Gosling) is driving a car with his girlfriend and family in it on some bridge (I forget which one it is) in the NYC area. An accident occurs and we see Henry between life and death while the other three people in the car have already died. The movie is then about what Henry is seeing as he's about to die. In the real world, Ewan Mcgregor's character Sam, and Lila (Naomi Watts) are helping him out until the paramedics can come and help. The movie we see is Henry's made up world containing Sam and Lila, where Sam is just helping a suicidal Henry and Lila is Sam's girlfriend. Other people he remembers seeing from the accident make short appearances in his made up world. Thus, the film is relatively confusing to some people, and I'm sure I haven't explained it as well as I could.
In the end, I say go rent this movie when it's avail
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)
Controversial - possible spoilers
In my own opinion, I LOVED this movie. It was funny and very cute. Kate Hudson did an excellent job. The thing is, it was a chick flick. For my own rating, as in what I thought of it, I gave it a 9. Because it was a chick flick, obviously all of the world wouldn't enjoy it like me. BUT, for a chick flick, it was awesome and I still think everyone should give it a chance.
Kate Hudson did an awesome job. I Loved her role in the film because you saw two sides of her, which she pulled off really well. One side being herself, and then the other, the girl trying to get rid of McConaughey's character. On the other hand, Matthew McConaughey did an equally impressive job for the same reason. He had to be two different characters too.
I loved in the movie when it's towards the end and you see Andie (Hudson) starting to act like herself around Ben (McConaughey) when they're at his parents house. I was personally really happy because it was like 'oooh the characters are starting to realize they do have feelings for each other blah blah blah'. I thought it was great when Andie made Ben go up to the stage and sing and then Ben made Andie come up too and they were singing together.
McConaughey has been in a couple chick flicks. For instance, he's been in The Wedding Planner, EdTV(it could be seen as a chick flick just because of the romance), Boys on the Side, and probably more, but...
IF YOU LIKED THE WEDDING PLANNER, also starring McConaughey, YOU'LL LOVE THIS EVEN MORE. Personally I don't really like J.Lo. She's a good actress, but there's something about the roles she plays that I just don't like, so seeing Matthew with someone else was awesome.
Honestly though, I could see why someone would not like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but with the way the film is, I think it depends on the viewer. In my opinion it's not your typical chick flick where the guy is usually wrong and the girl is the victim, blah blah blah. They're both being wronged and doing wrong. Everyone should go see it.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Here's my opinion.
I'm sorry if this gets lengthy.
I read quite a few of these reviews before I went to see it opening night in the states, Friday the 15th. This is my first comment since I've joined IMDB, and I figured I'd make my first comment one for the Harry Potter movie.
I personally am a huge fan of the books. I think they're brilliantly written and are great books for children and adults. Although there are quite a few people who would disagree with me and say that they are bad for children and so on, I feel that it is better to have children reading than being on computers, playing video games and watching t.v. The books, in my opinion are all about imagination and letting yourself get lost in a magical world. Having an imagination is one of the best gifts one can have.
I'll start with the Harry Potter movie by mentioning the first one. I read all of the books before the first one, so of course I was really excited. When I saw the first one, I was very pleased to see all of the things I had read about be put into a Hollywood film. To my surprise, a lot of the things matched what I was seeing as I was reading the book, and that made the movie even better. I think the cast is amazing and unbelievable considering their age. Also, the children are fans, so it was cool to see them put into their acting what they thought their characters should be like. I'm sure we'll see a lot out of them in the future.
Obviously, as I've said above, I loved the first movie. Now I will state what I thought about the second movie. As soon as I walked out of the theater for the first movie, I said to my one friend that I couldn't wait for the second movie. I made my friend a fan of Harry Potter due to dragging her to the movie and lending her my books. Due to me looking forward to the 5th book and the second movie to come out, at times that's all I could think about because there were some things that I was eager to see and read.
As I walked into the theater for the second movie, I was really energetic and hyper because it was finally time to see this movie. I was so happy as the movie went on. Of course I noticed a few of the things that were different from the book, but when making a movie from a book, you HAVE to expect that. I loved the movie. It was awesome to me. The basilisk was one of the things that I was most anticipating. Continuing on, when I walked out of the theater, I almost thought that it was a movie that someone might not enjoy as much if they didn't read the book. There were some things in there that I could imagine someone being confused about, but that still doesn't mean the movie was bad.
So all in all, I loved the movie, and i think everyone should go see it. Can't wait for the third movie!!! Concluding this, I would like to say R.I.P. Richard Harris.
