These Tortured Confines Need Only Light
It was crisp and it was clean;
forever marked in a glee as loud as the world’s tarnation. The women sigh, their baited breaths
praying for the obvious, stuck in the glance of young men,
glaring coldly at the tired sky floating on its silver wings. This is but everything. There is much more than a thread by which hangs one’s fate,
crying from a darkened place
within the swamps of worlds entire
twirling softly to eat gold rings. This is but ash time forgot, countless specks on a sun in need of wood varnish. Those muted frowns stare straight down. But here you stand, more of fire than of dance,
more of water than of steps,
pores weeping. These white hot flames have licked you raw as a baby bud. These golden years are but an effigy,
stone cold yet only there to block,
pushed outward as only those hands can. The world is still, the oceans cold,
Nature angry and ever bold— though there are those with wheels that turn
aflame as only skin can burn.

The Fidel Castro Apologists Rules List
TheWrath21 11-29-16
1) When confronted with Castro's terrible human rights record simply deflect to something real real bad the United States did. 2) When confronted about Castro's terrible human rights record just say, "Yeah....well, he gave his people free healthcare!" 3) Rant about the glories of socialism and the complete failure of capitalism and then completely contradict yourself by blaming all of Cuba's economic woes on the US trade embargo. 4) Claim that Cubans who supported Castro are "good Cubans" while Cubans who denounced Castro are "bad Cubans." 5) Completely expose your hypocrisy by having hissyfits about the oppressive, US backed Batista regime in Cuba while refusing to denounce Castro (and even praising him) for his own 50+ years of oppression. 6) Completely expose your hypocrisy again by having hissyfits about the oppression and lack of due process of a few dozen suspected Muslim combatants in Gitmo while again completely ignoring Castro's 50+ years of oppression and lack of due process for millions of Cubans. 7) Try to pretend that Castro was beloved by the Cuban people while conveniently ignoring that dissent against Castro has never been tolerated in Cuba. 8) Try to pretend that Castro was "elected" to office while conveniently ignoring that political opposition against Castro has never been tolerated in Cuba. 9) Try to pretend that Cubans were happy and gleeful under Castro's rule while conveniently ignoring that many Cubans were so desperate to get away from Cuba that they risked their lives to make the treacherous sea journey to the US. 10) Lastly, always remember not to reveal that the REAL reason why you defend Castro is because your far left ideology COMMANDS you to defend any socialist dictator that has hostile relations with the US.

The original Blair Witch Project was not scary, and was very annoying, so it's not such a stretch that the sequel sucked as well.

The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
Perry Mason on Steroids
Don't quite understand the good ratings. This is a mediocre show at best. All the male characters seems to have low, gravely voices and lackluster demeanors. The female leads, with the exception of Izzy and the Judge Holder, are annoying. This is Perry Mason on steroids with no surprises. You know how each episode is going to turn out. Dull.
The Gilded Age (2022)
After two episodes, grossly disappointing and lacking in substance.
Admission: I love costume dramas and can overlook many things. This series lacks depth and substance. No amount of gorgeous costuming or cinematography is going to help the plotlines and dialog which are akin to lukewarm bland soup - anticipated greatly upon appearances but falls flat upon experiencing. Christine Baranski is utterly wasted here. Cynthia Nixon does an admiral job but sadly flounders with such pathetic and stilted dialog. Lastly, I am disillusioned with Louisa Jacobson's empty delivery. The one bright spot in this pabulum of characters is Carrie Coon as Bertha Russell whose take-no-prisoners persona shines! I will continue watching in the hopes that it may improve. I won't hold my breath.
Lovecraft Country (2020)
So promising.
This series starts out very well hitting character development, backstory and monsters. A lot of action and likable characters. The series goes along just fine and is very enjoyable . . . Until it wasn't. It got stupid, preachy and disjointed toward the end. So promising, yet so disappointing.
The Feed (2019)
Suffers, among other things, from pacing.
Love the premise; the execution is terrible. And sometimes the acting is just terrible.
Servant (2019)
I am a Shaymalan fan, but there are limits.
The stultifying snail's pace of this ridiculous series just make me want to drive white hot spikes through my ears in an attempt to gain some relief. First three episodes of Season 1 were good; then it got weird. Further on, and into Season 2, it's just downright stupid. 30 minutes feels like 120 minutes. Guess I'm a glutton for punishment, because each subsequent episode I view I have hopes that it will go somewhere, but it doesn't. Although all the characters are on the annoying spectrum, Lauren Ambrose wins the grand prize. If TV were interactive, I would slap her. I'm sure there won't be a payoff.
Hillbilly Elegy (2020)
High Expectations for a Ron Howard Film - and disappointed
Having come off reading the book only two days prior, I had high expectations for this film, particularly since it had such a solid cast and director. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. While I had no issues with the wonderful performances or the cinematography, the story itself felt superficial and lacking in depth. There was so much more that could have been explored and explained. I am at a loss in understanding why this wasn't delved into. I can separate a book from its film adaptation and judge it on its own merits even if it departs from the book. This adaptation just felt very hollow and empty. The score I gave it was due to the performances and cinematography.
I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
Slow Burner that numbs your mind.
Suffice it to say the end-game could have occurred with better pacing. Too long and drawn out and excruciatingly annoying.
Dispatches from Elsewhere (2020)
Intriguing, and pay attention!
Viewed the first two episodes last night, and was rather intrigued. Different from most . . . fantasy/thriller/etc., etc. to which one is usually accustomed. Going into this blind without any back story or other information, I was compelled by the way the series was introduced. Although a little slow in some moments (and probably would have been more watchable without commercial interruption), it kept me wanting more and more. It does tend to suck you in.
The cast is appealing, and of course there is Sally Field who is enjoyable to watch in just about anything. Jason Segal's hands are all over it as he is the creator, and he does a fine job of portraying a lack-luster, bored, nothing-going-on-in-my-life Peter. Other notables, particularly André Benjamin's Fredwynn (yes, that's not a typo - it's Fredwynn - one word); and Eve Lindlely's hot-and-cold Simone.
I suspect one must really pay attention to what transpires, otherwise the plot could become confusing.
Looking forward to episode 3 this evening. I may revise this review after completing the entire Season 1, but in the interim, I have given an overall 7 rating.
Here's hoping!
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017)
Wonderful Blend of Warmth and Humor
What can I possibly say about this amazing show that hasn't already been said? We finished Season 2 over the weekend, and cannot wait for Season 3. The writing is smart, funny, crisp; the pace is fast; the actors are spot-on (special kudos to Rachel Brosnahan, Tony Shalhoub, Alex Borstein, and as a perfectly-rendered mother, Marin Hinkle) and the dialog delivery fabulous!.
The look and feel of this series is spot-on, the costumes impeccable, and the sets and settings highly accurate. This is a rich, delicious series that should be savored, but you just have to have it ALL AT ONCE!!
A Quiet Place (2018)
Delivers on all levels!!!
It's not often that a horror film delivers. This one did - fabulously! No gimmicks, no over-blown sound effects, no gratuitous jump-scares, special effects were believable, and the "gore" shown was minimal. This film depended on constant slow-building tension which was enhanced by the fact that the verbal dialog was minimal. Physical dialog was portrayed superbly, realistically and believably. This is a family struggling to survive in a world now inhabited by creatures who, although blind, are cued into their prey by their sense of sound. We get no back story on who these creatures are or from where they come, but that doesn't matter. This is a film about survival, and we are thrown into the midst of it right from the get go.
Blunt and Krasinski did their roles justice, and Millicent Simmonds as Regan Abbott was extremely impressive. I highly recommend this film to all horror film fans. You will not be disappointed!
