This is a great comedy with a lot of good racial humor, but it is for a narrow audience. If you like racial humor, Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart comedies, and bubble butts, you will love the movie. Although that is a lot of if's and many people will find it too distant from their own life experience to relate to the characters. The scenes are hardly predictable and will definitely surprise if not shock you. Some scenes may drag on for too long, but generally the movie flies by quickly. The acting is good, but for the fans of Will Farrell and Kevin Hart. Also make sure you are in a proper mood for watching an obscene comedy because the jokes will not spare you!

A modern political satire of the highest quality

After watching this movie I understood why North Korea was so upset about it. This satirical comedy is not a mindless flick by any measure. It exposes the ridiculousness of a totalitarian regime on a very basic level with very basic humor. The Interview mixes the ugly truth about the extravagant lifestyle of a dictator with low jokes and striking irony. This combination may seem absurd from a point of view of a spectator who never lived under authoritarian rule, but it stirs the guts of those who did and still do. Imagine to be watching this movie while living on 375 calories a day, listening to those simple jokes and getting a scary idea that you and your loved ones have suffered their entire lives for this. Can you think of anything more offensive to your beliefs? I do not think one can make a movie more dangerous to the North Korean regime than this one. A drama can be shrugged off as a biased lie, but a satire with spontaneous primitive humor invokes common sense and doubt. While this notion has been around since Shakespeare, there are few classic movies that hit the spot and I think The Interview is one of them. Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen very accurately identified weaknesses of the authoritarian regime and very accurately hit them with jokes that undoubtedly hurt some while amused the others. At some point towards the end of the movie I actually wondered if CIA actually had a hand in this. We in Ukraine had a revolution recently that ousted an authoritarian president Yanukovich. The revolution got overwhelming support once satirical images of Yanukovich's lavish lifestyle came through to the press. I had an opportunity to visit the president's private compound right after it had been seized and made available to the public. The compound had a garage of luxurious vehicles with a military vehicle "gift" in the center of it. I don't know whether all dictator's garages have similar layout or maybe it was just a coincidence, but it is certainly a striking one.
This movie is a modern political satire of the highest quality, and I give it 10/10 for this. The humor is Seth Rogen's and James Franco's best. Some like their humor, while some do not. But I believe the movie is great when it carries a meaningful message, and judging by the political storm it has caused, it deserves 10/10 on that scale as well.

Incredibly entertaining sci-fi: less science, more fantasy, and a lot of entertainment

As a scientist I did not expect much after seeing the trailer, but I was pleasantly surprised. Overall, the plot has ideas that are quite possible, some are well-stolen from Einstein, but that is more than enough for the sci- part of this movie. Now the fantasy part is on a par with Luc's previous Fifth Element and maybe even the Space Odyssey. The combination of strong acting by Morgan Freeman and Min-sik Choi, Luc's brave ideas with little boundaries, and very fast pace makes Lucy incredibly entertaining. This movie will keep you glued to the screen and leave you with some philosophy to think about afterward. The reason why it did not get higher ratings is probably because it could be more scientifically accurate.

How hard is it to depict a professional? Wall Street (1987), Boiler Room (2000), Wall Street 2 (2010), Limitless (2011), and my personal favorite Margin Call (2011), those are just a few movies that present financiers with their problems, faults, and fictitious, yet quite realistic and fascinating, dramas. This one misses the shot by a huge margin. When I watched this movie, it felt like watching Disney cartoons performing roles in a Scorsese thriller. Acting was OK (Giamatti is a given, but Pattinson didn't disappoint either), but the characters and the entire script completely lack logic. Dialogues seem to be written by people who don't have much knowledge of the economics. The trick of the movie is to depict an incredibly successful asset manager who happens to struggle dealing with quite common life problems. Although his skills and behavior is meant to picture him as a genius, you will not buy it. The philosophy that this movie is rich with has more holes than a sieve and is probably only accepted due to the ongoing economic crisis. Nevertheless, the directing of Cronenberg is pretty good with some great scenes. This movie will give people who are angry at the Wall Street (hey, who isn't?) for the current state of the economy something to beat up on, but that is just about it.

The movie starts off with a cliché twist, which all fans of post-apocalyptic genre love: nukes fall, people take shelter in a basement trying to survive. Classic "Schrodinger cat" dilemma whether to stay locked inside or explore outside and risk possible radioactive contamination unfolds.
Right from the beginning viewers are struck with unrealistic stupidity of characters. Only Michael Biehn's "Mickey" demonstrates slight signs of common sense. The rest are idiotic beyond any imagination. The movie quickly becomes a "why don't you just" and "how is this possible" brain torture, which insults viewer's intelligence in the most rude way. But it is still interesting to some extent because there is something going on outside that locked door. At some point the plot gets twisted into a potentially Sci-Fi area. But then because of the sheer indescribable idiocy of the characters the plot suddenly ends (right about 40 minutes into the movie).
Viewer gets thrown back into the beginning of the movie to watch an hour and 20 minutes of poorly acted literally retarded characters doing stuff that majority of people would call sick. I forward jumped through that one hour and 20 minutes only stopping at BDSM sex scenes, which turned out to be not that great either.
The movie looks completely staged. Food and water drag out into infinity as days or possibly weeks pass by. Humans appear to survive without air ventilation in a sealed basement while working out, having sex and beating life out of each other.If I was to describe all of the directing blunders, I would need a dozen of pages.
Unless you are a huge fan of post-apocalyptic movies and MUST watch every single one, or if you cherish cheap BDSM, this one is not worth watching.
