Nguoi Vo Cuoi Cung (2023)
Just what I was looking for..
I'm from the United States and this was the first time i have watched a Vietnamese film. I love period dramas and this was surprisingly just what I was looking for. The story isn't anything we haven't seen before, but I have no problem with that. I particularly enjoyed the movie carrying on for a few moments after the typical ending giving us full closure on what the family did. I thoroughly enjoyed the film down to finding myself weeping by the end. Reading captions is no problem for me and didn't take me out of the film for any moment. I hope I can find more films like this, my English language films are starting to run thin.
Not Cinderella's Type (2018)
Modern and Refreshing
A modern Cinderella story. Refreshingly realistic and thoughtful. It's a teen movie, but not goofy. Very sweet. Yes the "worst" part was the over the top Aunt and Uncle - but they're just playing the role. The rest of the movie was to well done for that to ruin it.
Twilight (2008)
Liked it, but did not LOVE it...
Well, I have so far read the first three books and am in love with the series. As others have said, I expected that the movie would not be as good as the book - which we were all correct. That said, I wasn't overly disappointed.
I actually liked Robert and Kristen as Edward and Bella. It was just so unfortunate that the filmmakers did not spend more time building their relationship. I agree with previous posters that for those who have not read the books, it would be hard to believe why they are so "in love" (though, they never say "i love you") with each other. Yeah - Why didn't they say "I love you?" But.. I did like Kristen's (Bella's) reaction in the hospital to Edward when he was saying they should be apart. I think that she will act out Bella's depressed part well if there is a second movie (New Moon).
I was actually bummed that there wasn't more scenes with Bella interacting with Jessica, Mike and friends. Also.. I wish I could have seen some Bella and Alice scenes. Even a scene with Alice helping Bella get ready for the prom. They are supposed to be such close friends that in New Moon (possible second movie) when Alice comes to Bella, Bella is so excited to see her (a not so disappointed that it wasn't Edward). For those of us that have read the books, when watching the movies, the character development is a not as necessary since we already know the characters... but what about people that haven't read the books. The movie dos not portray how important each character is.
I know it didn't necessarily fit into the film, but I wish there would have been a mention to why Rosalie didn't like Bella. Even just the simple statement that Rosalie was once intended for Edward - which was mentioned in the Twilight book.
I would like to see the movie more true to the book, but since it wasn't - I hope the possible second movie isn't all Bella and Jacob like New Moon was. I'd rather spend my time watching Bella and Edward scenes.
