Countdown (2019)
Very Good Little Horror
I enjoyed this very much. I love horrors and scary movies so thought I would give this a go. I am pleased I did. It is kind of in the same vain as Drag Me To Hell with a little bit of Final Destination thrown in. I wasn't keen on the aggressive, racist character Matt. But it was overall a good little horror, well put together and entertaining.
COBRA (2020)
Very good drama
This was a good entertaining drama. I enjoyed it after binge watching. I know that the snowflakes will be melting as it is too much truth for them to take. The middle class, elitist lefties won't like it. That is why I loved it. I hope we get more drama like this.
The Witcher (2019)
Really good show but one thing spoils it.
I loved this show, it was full of magic and sorcery and adventure. The acting was great by all and the cinematography and costumes were a pleasure to look at. The only thing that spoiled it for me was Joey Batey who played The Bard. He was awful and made me cringe every time he spoke. He was trying to be funny but failed miserably, it was like he was trying to do an impression of Ricky Gervais or Stephen Merchant. I almost stopped watching because of him.
Brightburn (2019)
So Good
The killings are so graphic like Final Destination. The story is amazing, the acting is very good. This is one of the best horror movies I have ever seen.
Our House (2018)
Great film.
This was an excellent movie, it reminded me of horrors from the 80a which I love. iIt had a good mixture of horror and sci-fi. It had good acting, interesting story which kept me entertained throughout. I am now looking up the director to see what other movies he has done as I did enjoy it and hope there are more like it.
The Open House (2018)
Not too bad.
The film isn't that bad, at least not as bad as many reviewers are saying. The acting is good, and there is a bit of a mystery to what is going on through the film. The could have ended the movie in a lot of interesting and different ways but the end they chose spoiled it for me. It all escalated so quickly and it just felt like I was watching a different movie. But I have seen some awful films and this is no way a 1 or 2 as many people have reviewed it. It is worth a watch.
Wentworth (2013)
Not great.
The show is based on Prisoner Cell Block H a gritty drama from the 70s and 80s. I recently watched all 692 episodes of Prisoner again and it was top notch, it could make you laugh, cry, angry, sad. Each episode is filled with drama. More happened in the first 10 episodes of the older Prisoner Cell Block H than has happened in all the seasons of Wentworth. The new Wentworth is so boring, yes it has a bit more sex and is a bit more graphic violence wise, but it has no good plots or stories, it doesn't deal with real issues faced by women in prison like Prisoner did and most of all it has absolutely no humour.
Prisoner Cell Block H was so, so funny at times with the likes of Lizzy Birdsworth, Doreen Anderson, Bea Smith, Chrissy Latham, Mouse, Lurch etc.. It was a serious drama but you got some real belly laughs from it too. Wentworth on the other hand is totally devout of any humour, Boomer is the only one really giving any laughs and they are silly cheap laughs usually about her size or lack if education.
I would recommend not watching Wentworth and going on YouTube (all 692 episodes are free to watch) and watching the original Prisoner it is a million times better.
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016)
They can't make comedies anymore.
I don't know what it is but I call it the Family Guy and Ricky Gervais effect. People try to act and sound like the Family Guy characters or in the UK like Ricky Gervais. It is a kind of way they speak, they keep a joke going on too long and add words that don't need to be there for comedy affect. They talk over each other because they think it looks 'more authentic' as in the way real people speak. Pitch Perfect 2 being a perfect example of this. Comedy now is just a cringe fest. It is not funny at all. If you look at comedies pre 2008 they are some great really funny, well done classic comedies.
I wish that Family Guy had never happened because it has single handedly destroyed comedy, even The Simpsons try to copy it and it is the worst, most un-funniest show that has ever been on TV.
The Lobster (2015)
Worst Movie Ever Made
This has got to be hands down the worst piece or rubbish I have ever seen.It was cringe worthy how they tried to make it arty but it turned out to be pretentious tripe. Anyone giving it good reviews are just trying to look intelligent as if to say 'Oh yeah I get it' When there really is nothing to get. It was just awful strung together, boring crud.I don't know how they managed to get such good names to sign up to this movie, really that is all it has going for it. I think without the names this movie would not have been seen by anyone. Do yourself a favour and give this one a big miss. By the way I do like indie movies and i do like art house movies, I am not some philistine who doesn't appreciate good art and fringe cinema, but this was truly bad.
Mr. Robot (2015)
Why does Eliot hate men?
I have seen 5 episodes up to know and Eliot seems to have a real problem with men. He hasn't liked a single man he has met on the show. He flinches when a man goes near him or touches him, but he doesn't mind women touching him. It is starting to get on my nerves how he treats women, like they're all lovely and innocent and treats all men like evil potential threats.
It may come out later a reason for this but I just think maybe it is the writers or the shows creator who are man haters, it is really spoiling the show for me because I do love the show and the hacking story lines, and the revolution against a corrupt society.
Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015)
Not Great
This is the worst one of the 3 films. I wish it hadn't been made. It had some pretty scary scenes but the girl main character Quinn Brenner played by Stefanie Scott just couldn't hold the movie, she was a daft teenager like something out of clueless or some crap like that, she had no spirit and seemed weak I just didn't gel to her at all.
Lin Shaye was great as Elise, but the back story of her was just stupid, and the way she comes up with why she calls the place of the dead 'The Further' was just stupid. I actually laughed. They made her seem like a scared old lady and just ruined her character a bit.
I watched the first 2 movies before watching this so I had fresh in my memory everything and a lot of things just didn't piece together or work in this film especially regarding Elise.
Overall this is watchable but if you loved the first 2 films you may not like this one.
Hercules (2014)
I am sick of them leaving homosexuality out of the story.
In nearly all of these films about Greek and Roman heroes they always leave out the homosexual parts of the characters. The only one who did this any justice was the TV series Spartacus.
Hecules had many male lovers beyond counting. Names we know include his lovers Admetos, Iphitos, Euphemos, Elacatas, Abderus, and Iolaos.
In the most famous story of Hercules' love for young men, he fell in love with Hylas during Jason's quest for the golden fleece. As the poet Theocritus wrote in 300 BC, Hylas had locks of hair that hung down in curls.
Hercules helped row the ship Argo, but was so strong he broke the oar. When they got to land Hercules went to find a strong tree to make a new oar while Hylas went to a famous spring for water. At the spring Hyllus met nymphs who fell in love with his beauty and captured him, possibly dragging him into the water. Hercules was so distraught he remained there searching for Hylas when the Argos sailed, abandoning the expedition for love.
We know Hercules best for his famous labors, performed to please King Eurystheus. It was rumored Eurystheus was another of his lovers, providing the motivation for his heroic acts.
Heracles and Iolaus (Fountain mosaic from the Anzio Nymphaeum)As symbol of masculinity and warriorship, Heracles also had a number of male lovers. Plutarch, in his Eroticos, maintains that Heracles' male lovers were beyond counting. Of these, the one most closely linked to Heracles is the Theban Iolaus. According to a myth thought to be of ancient origins, Iolaus was Heracles' charioteer and squire. Heracles in the end helped Iolaus find a wife. Plutarch reports that down to his own time, male couples would go to Iolaus's tomb in Thebes to swear an oath of loyalty to the hero and to each other.
One of Heracles' male lovers, and one represented in ancient as well as modern art, is Hylas. Though it is of more recent vintage (dated to the 3rd century) than that with Iolaus, it had themes of mentoring in the ways of a warrior and help finding a wife in the end. However it should be noted that there is nothing whatever in Apollonius's account that suggests that Hylas was a sexual lover as opposed to a companion and servant.
Why do they leave this out of stories, why do they leave all homosexual relations out of legendary tales. Even Zeus and Poseidon had many male lovers also.
Protect Me from What I Want (2009)
Very Good Short Film
I have to say this was very good, Elliot Tittensor shows a different side to his acting, and shows he has more talent than just playing Carl in Shameless and isn't afraid to do more serious stuff.
Naveed Choudhry was also very good, he portrays a young Asian who goes with another boy for the first time, you can feel his tension, at first and then he starts to let go a bit then feels guilty then it ends on a bit of a high.
For a 14 minute film it was very good, well shot, well acted, nice directing from Dominic Leclerc.
It came as part of a series of shorts on a film called 'Boys On Film 4' and this one is easily the best one out of the nine shorts.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
Truly bad
I must say I really didn't like the film, it glosses over too much, it is visually stunning and some of the cinematography is beautiful but the story just isn't there, I have read half-blood prince twice and loved it and was really looking forward to the film but I must say it was a let down and a very anti climactic end.
I watched it with a friend who hasn't read any of the HP books and he was left confused and didn't understand what was going on on some bits, such as when Harry looks into Dumbledores pensieve it didn't explain what it was, it didn't explain much about Dumbldores hand or the ring, a lot of stuff wasn't really explained and it was on for 2hours 18minutes so surely in that time they could have made a good story out of it but it turned out to be a mish mash of special effects and not a very coherent story.
Little bits would have made it so much better such as Fred and Georges joke shop I loved in the book when Ron's parents went to visit when reading the book I actually imagines Julie Walters face seeing the shop, but the shop was just fleeting it didn't even explain who Fred and George were, I think David Yates is a terrible story teller I think he must take for granted everyone has read the book as he takes not time explaining or keeping the story going.
I was very disappointed the first 3 films were great it went downhill from Goblet of Fire and this being the worst.
