Watchmen (2019)
Annoying and forgetful characters
This show had some promise but for some reason I just struggled to care about the characters because they're so boring. Maybe they're trying too hard or maybe they just weren't good fits for the parts. Or maybe they stories just don't match with everything.
Each small bit by itself actually isn't bad in terms of the performance but somehow the series just seems choppy and fails to be cohesive. I never read the book and maybe that would've helped but that shouldn't be a prerequisite when watching something like this. A good series will hook anyone, no matter the viewer's background or experience.
Only Murders in the Building (2021)
Amazingly off-putting
I find all the characters annoying and largely unbelievable. Maybe theater lovers see something I don't? The writing feels pretentious and so desperate to be funny that it just becomes awkward.
Selena Gomez doesn't feel natural and is more suited for music than film. Can't fault her for taking this opportunity, though.
Also, I never realized how annoying Martin Short's voice can be.
If I had to pick a favorite it would be Steve Martin. He gets 1 star, and the theme song is catchy so 1 for it.
Overall, everything put together feels like a waste of time and like all of these amazing resources would've been better spent elsewhere.
The War with Grandpa (2020)
Why... just why...
So much for remembering three of my favorite stars from the good ol' days when they had standards.
I regret every minute of watching it. Hollywood should be ashamed, as should these now-washed-up sellouts.
Whatever you do, do not pay for this trash.
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
1 star for Jim Carrey, 1 for CGI/sound, 1 for soundtrack
I'd be interested in watching a version with *just* sound fx and music. The writing/dialogue ruins what would otherwise be an artistic experience.
Under the Dome (2013)
3/10 at best
I wanted to give this a 5-6/10 when I first started watching it but then that changed to 4-5, to 3-4, to ultimately 3/10.
The general plot idea isn't terrible but the show could've been better if there was more development and better acting.
Despite it being an OK idea for a show, they failed at executing it.
The effects are simply bad, and the acting is cheesy and rushed.
For that matter, the story is also rushed. It's as if they generated it from a robotic script creator.
That said, I still had to watch the whole thing -- regurgitated nonsense.
This show wasn't made out of passion or creativity. It was made systematically from an assembly line with little meat.
Two and a Half Men (2003)
Mediocrity sells, does it not?
Gay jokes or toilet humour are rarely funny, and that is no exception on this show. There are so many one-liners and copycat bits that miss totally. The jokes don't even seem like jokes, the script is boring, and Ashton's character is unoriginal and uninteresting. He's just a typically exaggerated sitcom personality which is totally unrealistic. I think they actually want us to fantasize about being someone like him, but why? The show never really was that creative but Charlie was sloppy and entertaining. Allen is the only remotely comical character now, which doesn't say much about the rest of the show. It reminds me of 'Man Up' - a total train-wreck which contained zero comedy. The only thing it was missing was a laugh track. Anyway, who finds this stuff funny? People with head trauma?
Perhaps I've grown tired of this genre. It just seems like the writing is desperate and lazy, and feels like the show was flung together for money only. I sense zero artistic merit and all I can do is shake my head and cock my eyebrow. It doesn't seem genuine. The characters are just running through the motions. The characters are enthusiastic and high-strung and perhaps compensating for how empty they are. Their actions and gestures actually make me anxious and annoyed. The best word I can use to describe the new 2 1/2 Men is lame. I still watch it, but I can't help but pick every minute apart because it's just a bunch of awkwardly unfunny scenes, one after the other.
I can't wait until Arrested Development comes back. Yes, I realize it's the complete opposite of 2 1/2 Men, and I know we watch 2 1/2 Men because of the goofy immaturity - not to be enlightened, but TV really needs some smart comedy before our sense of humour disappears. The garbage that's coming out is only lowering the bar for the next pile of drivel. The writer's aren't artistic or funny. They're machines which process bits from other comedies which got good ratings, because they're too afraid to take risks. They only want what they know will sell. The idiots rule TV, both as viewers and creators. Give us shows that takes risks like Curb Your Enthusiasm or Arrested Development. At least they're trying to write something fresh that gives us perspective rather than the same old, same old. Cancel this show.
The Devil's Ride (2012)
Pile of BS which is perhaps unintentionally entertaining.
Like most people, I was interested in checking this out when I heard about it and saw a preview. Only laughter ensued, leaving me to wonder if the creators set out to make bikers look bad. I must admit that this is a creative way to make fun of bikers. Isn't that the deal? If it isn't, I'd be surprised. It's as if they're trying to send a message. "Bikers are not cool. Look at how dumb bikers are. You do not want to be one of them. Do not glorify bikers." The stereotypes go without saying.
The show itself, if taken seriously, is horrifically terrible. However, if you watch it as unintentional comedy, it's actually somewhat entertaining. All you can do is laugh. The more developed (or lack thereof) the show gets, the funnier it is. You will be left asking yourself the same question I did. "Is this for real, or is this a joke?" I've concluded that this is a bad joke by someone at Discovery.
