OK but just way to over the top
4 November 2023
This movie had amazing potential, but the severely saturated political BS and message passing was just too much.

A little political isn't bad but the writer went overboard from racial, vaccine, mask wearing, abortions, guns and religious bases touched. It was just as if the writer had gone crazy during Covid-19 shutdown and thought "how can I project me anger and frustration at the world"..and here we have the is projection.

The actual premise isn't unlike some other single shot location movies where the lead is trapped and 90% of the film is revolved around that place.

Splinter/Phonebooth/Night of the Living Dead.

Weak acting, story and script.
3 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am a big fan of 1.

Disliked 2.

Enjoyed 3.

This latest installment is have to say was a huge disappointment.

The constant direction of "this happened and then this happened and then this happened" was so wasted and useless. That said I think like part 2 it was the actors and acting that ruined it for me.

The character of Margot Bentley played by Bridget Rose Perrotta was so far off mark. Her relationship with character Rebecca Vickers played by Destiny Leilani Brown was absolutely not convincing, they certainly didn't seem like lovers but more like good girly friends.

The acting by Bridget was really weak, over exaggerated and mistimed on many back and fourth dialog scenes.

Some of the plot set ups were also very bad. *SPOLIER* When the ladies arrive at the Carmichael mansion with Donald (I think was his name) to get the keys and be show around, Rebecca asks Donald regarding the internet signal and he states "as I said to Margot when we last spoke, the internet is just fine". The reason this is a red flag is because Rebecca mentioned a few times before they arrived at the mansion that she will be happy as long as it has internet at which point Margot could've simple said it does. It also foreshadowing the internet going down.

I was super excited when this movie was announced, even more excited when it dropped but now having seen it twice, it is by far the weakest link and the worse produced out of them.

Just don't do it!
19 September 2018
This movie was just plain bad. Lets start, like any story...the beginning. Someone wants to make another hit zombie movie "Like" night of the living dead, dawn of the dead or some variation thereof.

The story seriously was piss poor and the budget did not even meet what the script would require for it to be considered a god awful movie. The acting was "shoot yaself in the head" bad with the audio and picture being worse that a 1960's cartoon. There was a couple of boob shots and a little gore to keep the shock value but it really just blew.

The way this was marketed was clearly for people who love the Romero stuff and yet even today with Romero's '68 Night people just come close. This here is proof that just an idea, a budget of a couple of hundred bucks maybe a few G's and a couple of friends should NOT attempt to make a movie, maybe do something else like a big crazy party or rent out a bowling alley and have fun.

I have lived my life by this mantra "Just because you can doesn't mean you should". I wish more people would follow suit.

Please save ya time and anger, it took me a full 3 days to watch this one movie and this is because it annoyed me so much but to pass judgement i like to finish the movie to be able to say definitively if it is worth a view or burn the disc.

Vacation (I) (2015)

Clearly there is a market for this "type" of movie.
18 June 2018
This movie in my own opinion completely missed a perfect opportunity to bring out a new franchise of some future features. But this movie was just bottom of the barrel, pathetic and dumb resorting to an almost humor which a 12 year old would laugh at, a humor not too distant from fart and dick 'n' ball gags. I am very fortunate enough like many to love the original Vacations where the humour still stands up to today's standards. with the great success of the Hangover Ed Helms played the character well as did Christina Applegate and even the older son, but the younger kid was just over the top and I don't blame him for that, the writing and director take that responsibility. The plot was traditional, the 7 minute joke based around the car Rusty had rented was nothing more than a silly filler gag which again for me missed the mark.

The CB radio gag, the university stop all seemed ok but again I just feel the writer Jonathan Goldstein as impressive as his resume is just wanted to make a slop movie. There didn't seem to be a sense of direction in the film between characters, Rusty is clearly supposed to be the glue, but that kinda just doesn't reflect in the movie. I tried hard not to compare to the originals but it's hard when this is supposed to be the "new" generations of Griswold's and therefore some kinda of magic from the originals should have rubbed off, but it didn't. I've seen it once and like many forgettable movies it will find its way in a place where many years from now when references the Vacation movies the only ones that will be mentioned will be the originals.

A good movie
19 January 2018
Reading some peoples reviews on this is pitiful. The story is solid, acting is good the camera work could be better (seeing camera man in window of Sheriff Joe's Jeep outside the restaurant), sound is ok. Over all it's a good film, not every movie needs to be on a super explosive Hollywood budget. Like many die hard horror fans, we will watch good, bad and really bad and somewhere in-between each of those is the "it's not bad but not good either". This movie is certainly not an edge of a seat sitter or splatter/slasher flick but it does tell a good story and it shows some good acting by leads.

An extremely constant mistake
11 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
How to start this review! I know this movie is predictable beyond belief. There were so many issues with the style and plot along with the usual low budget aim high kind of problems. I love Indy flick, in0fact sometimes I prefer them over big budget and big name productions, but this film is one that will be lost on the 99.cent shelf. One of my biggest issues is a common mistake for writers to make and that is POV. We (the viewers) are watching a character see something sinister and evil and they stand there starring and the camera pans from them to what they are seeing to show us what it is and then back again to the character only then to jump to the characters POV and the image has gone!! HOW AND WHY!!!!! This would lead one to think that the sinister image they saw had just vanished into thin air and if that is the case why would the camera then pan back to the views POV to the character to still seem shocked...I just don't make sense. There can be a very good lesion to learn from the 80's and 90's horror movies like Freddy, Jason and Michael. They don't use that concept because they (Writers/Directors) know from the viewers POV we are suppose to escape now sit thinking for 20 minutes "Now how did that thing go and where did it go and why is the character still sitting there, and do they know it just disappeared or did they see it go somewhere"...

This film has to many annoying faults but respect to the attempt.

Death Note (I) (2017)
1/10
Nah!
2 November 2017
Watch the Japanese 2006 and the following series of Death Note, MUCH BETTER.

I find this to be a constant issue with originality or lack thereof. Japan, India and China are extremely underrated for what they have/are producing. Provided you are comfortable reading subtitles and watching the action taking place then it's just as good if not better than some Hollywood movies.

10 years from the Japanese original to US screenplay to be developed, yet it wasn't a scratch on the original. Problem is when people want to write up a screenplay to a foreign movie they feel the absolute need to rape it to fit the western audience as if we can't or shouldn't watch other concepts.

This US version was nothing more than a pathetic attempt at chucking out some mediocre movie to put bums on seats, which really wouldn't be a problem it was their original concept.

It's time to seriously get back to some "No risk, no reward" concept of investing. Studios need to take a chance on independent movie makers when they come up with original ideas, not playing the safe game where intelligent viewers end up seeing through there greed and ignorance of treating us, the audience as sheep.

Plot was good, accent was just plain bad
26 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The plot for this film and what it was being sold on was actually a pretty good concept, not overly original but good. This movie reminds me of a severe burn on your arm or leg, the burn hurts like hell but it gives you a good story to tell your mates. The acting by some really good and in my view 1st/2nd grade actors will not let you down however let me outlay a few points on Michael Chiklis. It is hard to get into a movie if its a found footage style movie if you suffer with motion sickness or sensitive to joggy camera work, just like that, it is hard to actually get fully into this movie as a lead character Michael Chiklis does a terrible cockney accent. Now I'm not going to say it was the worse example of an actor trying to do an accent because after hearing Jason Statham trying to do an American accent I think we're even. But it didn't help the fact that (IF) Chiklis was sticking strictly to script then it wasn't accurate in the way we talk. A younger bloke would never say to an older bloke "son" just wouldn't happen. Michael Chiklis almost gets run over at the start of the movie where he says "Look where your going you bloody cow" yet a few minutes later he calls Stephen Langs character "cunt" in a realist environment a cockney would have called the bird a "cunt" and we don't say things like take your legs off at the knee, we would say "kneecapping". I'm disappointed because they actually had a Brit on set Max Beesley who I'm sure over his travels have interacted with many cockney's. Over all it is hard to get pass the bad accent but worth a watch non the less.

Just not good at all.
13 June 2017
Terrible Movie As an avid movie watcher and running a business in Horror and Sci-Fi I make sure to watch and keep up with all the latest from blockbuster to indie, so when I noticed this movie added to Amazon I thought "hey, why not", this was my first mistake. My second was actually watching the film twice in case I was being overly judgmental in my opinion. To quote Amazon's description "A micro-low budget, slow burn, character focused exploration of horror genre tropes.) This my friends is where we have a communication problem not because of those words but a 4.8 out of 10 on IMDb which is where Amazon copy their rating standard is just wrong Amazon should allow people to rate like Netflix because me thinks this movie would not be anywhere near a 4.8. OK so the many indie movie makers out there grabbing a camera and making their movie is extremely easy today but sometimes don't….just don't. You want to stand out and be different and get your foot on a ladder or appreciated for the movie you spin out, great. But movies like this are not any different from the other 1,000's floating about. The acting is extremely poor and the script is so far off that I think most of the filming was ad-lib and they worked to a "guide". There are many and I mean many uncomfortable silences in the film where either an actor has forgotten their line (if there was one) or said actor isn't good at improv. The shooting was simple, camera work was not that bad for indie but unfortunately one of the biggest problems with indie movie making (and I speak from experience) is you put money into one area and neglect another and in this case it would be sound and talent. If making an indie movie and it involves running around with a JVC camera and you only mic is the crappy one that came in a box of cereal then don't expect good quality. Would I recommend this movie? NO. Well there are many, many movies that are great Indies and others that either try too hard or literally don't try at all and just want an IMDb credit that get released.

Blair Witch (2016)
1/10
Was not good at all.
21 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this twice just to be sure I wasn't being a little unfair. But...I'm not. This movie was bad for two main reasons, the actual foundation of this movie has already been laid out in the previous Blair Witches. However this was just a very bad attempt to make a fresh new look at the whole story. My main problem with this film is that the director and writer tried way too hard to give us the viewers a jump every 5 seconds which makes it actually boring and predictable. Another problem is the poor quality of shooting style, I understand the whole handy-cam and freestyle camera work is the whole point of found footage but the constant bleeps, picture distortion and sound issues were very off putting as a viewer. I know this seems harsh BUT I would have expected more from the people that brought us V/H/S. I guess they wanted to go to the well yet again.

The other issue I had was that because of the number of people it makes it less intimate and more of a who is who, who is doing what and what is this all about type thing. The acting was sub-par the acting from the character Lane was very annoying and not believable, when there was a time to actually be serious I swear he had a constant smirk on his face (after it was exposed they put the figures up). The whole film felt like they wanted to take a piece of this and that from the original like, wooden figures, piles of stones and noises in the night and of course the getting lost part and then add their own spin which if they had just done a whole new story and NOT depended on the ideas from the first film then it may have been more tolerable.

I will NOT be watching this a third time. Bad movie over all. If anything it makes me appreciate the first one more.

Don't do it!
17 May 2016
The film is well directed and the story is OK, but like the many and I mean many other reviews on here commenting on the accents I have to agree. WHY!!! You have a Scottish bird and a Southern English bloke "trying" to do a general American accent. Don't get me wrong, I believe in trying and keep trying but to be honest, as much as I want to take a pop at the actors it really comes down to the casting director thinking these accents were good enough to put on film and try to pass it off. I am from a theory that if you want to pass off a British guy or girl in a movie where accents is needed give a little back story on maybe them relocating to the US and vise versa, you don't need to go into much history but just a little, in this case that would have worked amazingly well and maybe would have saved the amount of negative reviews on the accent front. The chemistry between the two leads was great, very believable and showed how comfortable they were. But to actually just relax and get into the film is hard because with simple accent issues such as, Call to C-ull, dirty to durty..it really is just hard to enjoy the film.

Not a bad film but daitch chase hasn't a clue
13 June 2015
This movie is not a bad watch. It's got a good foundation of a story based on "Real Events" and the subject matter is always intriguing to watch. This being said I watched this film without reading any reviews or even reading the synopsis. After watching I started to read up on the reviews on here and there have been some very good opinions however daitch chase who left a review more to defend the movie clearly has an ulterior motive. I make it a habit to watch movies for entertainment and if it happens to peak my interested to find out more I will, but this is my own personal guide line, in any so called "REAL" movie if they people in the said "REAL" movie happen to be on IMDb with a list of credits I take their experiences to be more of an act than anything else. After all they are making a MOVIE even if the so called trivia states 90% of the film was real and not rehearsed. Actors are trained to react to their environment and place yourself as the character you are representing. So in a paranormal movie I expected much of the shaking of the camera, out the blue shock noises and just on the noise lets face facts when you walk do you have a score or musical effects follow you? no so at some point editing and sound and possibly visual effects were added. So this is a good movie but don't be like daitch chase if you like it great if not oh well. But don't pop at people who slate it.

This is just a bad movie
24 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It really comes down to choice I guess. However one word describes this movie.....crap. There are so many flaws in this movie it is not even funny. Zombies goes down with a bullet to the belly, there motivation now is not to eat brains, but to fight. Fight you know like Bare knuckle fighting or specifically in this movie high school slapping.

The story was so bad and all over the place that any studio should use this movie as a reason to make sure they check the scripts 5 times before funding.

The acting is well...acting.

When I watch movies like this, I always think some spoilt little, big mouth kid has begged like a little wiener to get his budget and loans to make his so-called 'HOLLYWOOD BLOCKBUSTER' movie...THE NEXT BIG THING.

Some movies just shouldn't be make let alone associated with a classic spoof like in this case.

Bad Bad Bad
6 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Yep this movie is BAD! For an independent movie this really sucks.

From the confusing script writing to the EXTREMELY poor acting this movie just made me want to slap the hell out of myself. The best acting in this movie goes to the Witch Doctor, everyone else was just so bad. Right from the very start of the movie you can tell it is going to be a hard view. The really bad camera angles, sound and effects its just not worth YOUR time. The flying eye, flying shovel and the really bad splatter blood it's just some really bad person who is a 6 out of 10 on adobe effects.

The speech impediment from the mayors daughter and poor accent from the lead actress it's just better to stay away.

To finish, I will simple put: This movie was done in 2012, a full 2 years after The Walking Dead started. The writer "used" so much from AMC's blockbuster show, that it's evident in characters and scenes. NUFF SAID..

Over all a bad film
6 June 2014
The only thing that got me turned on to this movie was hopes of flesh eating maniacs. BUT it let me down so much that I seriously think any clown with a handy cam can now make a movie.

From the pathetic over the top acting of the one dimensional characters to the effects it was bad. The useless attempt of story was just that an attempt.

There are many things you can do with you life than watch another crap film that lacks everything a viewable independent horror film should have.

Just look at the writers credit, a man who has done a short film called COCK about a loner who has a talking penis explains many things about his direction of screen writing.

As for the director, this is her only movie. I know why, DO YOU! if you do watch this and you'll find out.

I don't claim to be the saviour of lost hours, I can't give you your time back if you have watched this film, but those that may think about watching it, DON'T.

Not only is this movie crap, it's a complete waste of good viewing time!
22 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The plot seemed OK! Then I watched the film!!!

Not only is this film a pathetic piggy back ride on other horror movies out there, it actually lessens the whole horror genre in general.

The husband and wife who are on a road trip was a joke, they didn't even seem like they were married apart from the occasional "honey" and "babe", the strange vampire chick who gives the geek a little sucky after proclaiming "I Like You" and then after the little sucky, sucky says "I no like"!! WTF... Then the very strange killer in the camp site by the lake!! HMMMM anyone seen "Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes"...someone went to town with the steeling of that idea. The set up of the doc who likes to help ghosts..Paranormal Activity anyone.. and of course the extremely stupid last one of the 4 friends who just wanna party on Halloween and end up in a empty house that has some dudes who are sacrificing a babe who later turns out to be a ghost or something who set them up to be killed by a bloody train~! WTF!!!

I have seen movies and movies and movies and movies....BUT THIS HOLY SH*T Leave this in the bargain bin! don't even bother when it's a freebie!

Just flat out bad! in a bad way..
28 February 2013
This movie was just a waste of my time and the studios money. I understand filming these movies on handy-cams and shots that are meant to be from CCTV cameras are the in thing, but really. The whole plot of the film was just straight crap, It was so basic and just stupid that it makes me question WHAT NEXT!!. The lead actress is BAD, the shooting style is bad, the editing was pathetic BUT this movie could have be made into something good with the right person in front and behind the camera. You are better off just staying away from this movie and waste your cash on Paranormal Activity or Chernobyl Diaries..It really was a let down...
