The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
Well Done!
I must say, I didn't have much faith but was a bit excited just to know if they would be able to impress me with yet another Spiderman! Yes, loved Garfield's nerdy clumsy character evolve into a modest hero. Two thumbs up for me, it was a wild ride 8-) Always love Emma Stone, although not as a blonde so much but she was a cute match for the movie. I had the opportunity to see Garfield in a movie called Never Let Me Go. So I knew that he would handle a part like this with ease. It took me a minute to get used to his smaller physic, not the muscular Toby Maguire but yuck who cares about him anymore *short cringe* I am happy that Marc Web was able to clean up such a pitiful excuse for a super hero movie blah ... So I must say Well Done!
Good Deeds (2012)
Come on reviewers ....
I look at it like this ... for a Tyler Perry movie this was a comeback. Okay some scenes were a little 'awkward' and slow, but I was impressed with this film. You can see he is trying to reset the tone of his movie making and get back to the basics of telling the story. He decided to take the lead part in this film and I think that it was a bold and precise move on Tyler's part. He had to let his audience know that he is here to stay. He is bringing his core essence of film-making that drew people to him in the first place. He is a fantastic black man who tries to cut out 'the crap' of films and just wants to display real life. He has fumbled around casting and made some 'just for giggles' films but he knows how to remind us all of just how simple we all are and how we are all connected in this game of life.
If one thing we should learn from him is his insatiable need to put us all in the shoes of another person. Let's be a little more compassionate for a man who isn't afraid to pick himself up, dust himself off and keep trying ... just my little thought ;-)
District 9 (2009)
Loved it
This film was extraordinary. I found it to be very entertaining and the visual effects were breathtaking. I was very excited to see another Peter Jackson production and boy was I impressed. The whole movie has you on the edge of your seat wondering what could possibly happen next.
This is not a story about aliens in outer space trying to kill everyone, but a film about a race (the aliens) that along with any other race are segregated and forced to act out in order to survive. So this story is so much a Science Fiction film as it is a story about people and some core issues that the people of South Africa struggled with for so many years.
I think this film can be targeted to the person's throughout the world that do not really concern themselves with any issues dealing with people that are not in their immediate circle. This takes film and connects a mass audience to show you the issues on another scale. The core of discrimination and segregation are all the same, person's who are not deemed 'worthy' of our respect because of educational barriers or simply the color of their skin (or in this case DNA makeup) shall be treated like garbage. I think this film brings many different people's entertainment levels into one. Where one would not have found a story about an ordinary guy's shift from watching a fight to living the fight anywhere exciting, this movie brings you that entertainment aspect along with the dramatic story of how a world revolving around politics can be the greediest and most distrustful experience imaginable.
The X Files: I Want to Believe (2008)
What happened?
This series used to be one of my favorite shows. Although, I do still have a deep respect for the series I cannot allow myself to say that I enjoyed this movie.
Mulder was very good at bringing his character back to life, but unfortunately I cannot say the same for Scully. She was too strong minded and not enough of a believer for me in this film. There was just no conviction to her character and she irritated me just as much as she did Mulder. She wasn't even involved with the story. She was preoccupied with her story of the boy in the hospital and didn't actually add any insight ,okay okay except the dog tranquilizer note. There was absolutely no chemistry between her and Mulder (I could have sworn I felt some before, in the series *sarcastic voice*) I heard from a friend that you did not have to have watched the series to know what was going on or to enjoy this movie. That statement clearly was not true. There was no real details into what was going on until the end. I actually would have turned it off if I wasn't an excited fan of the series.
X files is supposed to deal with government conspiracies, extraterrestrial life and spirituality. There was no real issues in this movie other than the fact that the Russians had moved their experiments (actual pioneering 1950s studies) to the US. These experiments are known already and are not speculation, but horrible, cruel truths that maybe the writers of X-Files thought the world should remember or know about. Yeah okay they did touch on spirituality, with the whole horrible priest stumbling upon these physic powers that may or may have not been given by god through the thoughts of his former victim.
I really wasn't overly impressed with the story and would have liked to see some more action with the government hiding aliens in their secret labs, which to me is far more entertaining. It is always very interestingly freaky to wonder what the government is hiding in their closet.
BUT I WOULD have to say that this brings truths to the light for all to know and be aware of. I am not sure how many people will take the time to research the information or take it as cheap story. But if it is one thing that X-Files does do is keep us wondering. It should at least spark your interests in order to get up and get reading and educate yourself on all the information around us that we just don't seem to take the time to see.
I will close my comment on that positive note, regardless, I am still a fan of the truth.
Lars and the Real Girl (2007)
Excellent flick
This film was extraordinary in the sense that it gave you are wonderful look at 'real' people without the 'reality TV'. More films like this should be produced so people can have a better understanding out what people truly go through. This was a film about love expressed in a non-sexual manner along with the deep understanding of a person's core feelings. It helped me to see beyond people's exterior and to remember that everyone is a person and everyone deals with different situations in life differently.
People need to be more caring for their neighbors and show compassion on a deeper level. I hope that people realized that Lars had a shrink, but she never prescribed him any drugs she was simply there for him when he seemed to need it the most. She listened and gave him the opportunity to work through his own issues. This should be remembered when you see children on Ritalin and Zoloft at such a young age because no one has the patience to help them to cope with their issues or show them how to concentrate. This film inspired me to be a better person and to take more time to think of maybe the way a person feels and why.
Another inspiring and deeply moving film recommendation - Sybil 1976 with Sally Field.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Truly enjoyed this flick
I am by no means a mass fan of the Batman series but I am a true movie buff who can spot quality when I see it. This movie left me on the edge of my seat yearning for more and more. I would have liked to see some more action with the two face, but all in all we have to understand that he was not a true villain, but a depiction of man at its core.
I believe the storyline was well thought through in bringing all the characters together in a way that left you thinking, "What else could the joker possibly do?" There are many movies being made lately that are not the normal good guy bad guy, but really trying to bring you a true plot with a moral and something to learn from. Batman is a raw movie about just how corrupt the world can be and is in some sense, but it can show you hope and any movie that promotes hope among people will get a hand from me. I can appreciate a movie thats soul purpose is not to simply have you entertained, but reach down and have you thinking at the end. I think that people that are making negative comments about the movie are the people that are missing the story as a whole. Will you be willing to spend your millions on saving people that don't care to be saved? I think we all should learn a little something about this movie and stop being so critical because there were some extra-ordinary unbelievable moments reflected in the scenes that everyone at some point believes they are capable of. It is a fantasy movie so treat it like one and look deeper.
