Kingdom Hearts (2002)
More then it seems
While sitting on the computer upstairs, with the tv on, on cartoon network, I wasn't expecting to hear such a great song all of a sudden, it immediately caught my ears, I ran to the tv and watched what seemed to be the most amazing cg graphics ever. And that was only the commercial. I thought it would be like final fantasy, accept with Disney characters, I didn't think too much on it, I always knew Disney was trying to get into Japan's pockets and get their anime, but my god I didn't expect them to make a game like this, of course square did all the planning, but the fact that Disney was with them, doesn't change. This is definitely a high budget game, I know Disney supplied the money, and square worked their magic, the graphics are amazing. If anyone has played Xenosaga, you would know that as you watch the cut scenes, you clearly can see pixels, and misplaced characters, and stuff like that. That doesn't happen here, everything is like it should be, and everything is perfect. The opening is worth the time alone. The Disney characters didn't seem to be out of place either, sure it was slightly weird, but I had fun playing in the nightmare town, and the Neverland was pure fun.
Some spoilers might be presented in the next paragraphs. Even though because of Disney, the game was rated E, it still holds a deep plot, and is a rather challenging game. Getting everything in the game just to see the secret movie at the end is well worth it, and if you have a high speed connection, download deep dive, which is another secret movie that comes with the special edition of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, the video is a masterpiece of its own, the graphics are insane. The mysteries it opens up, the new unknown characters, if I knew Japanese I would definitely get Final Mix as well. Many final fantasy characters made an intro, characters like Cloud, Squall, and the infamous Sephiroth (who is btw one hell of a cookie to beat) even the fact that Lance Bass, from NSYNC did his voice doesn't matter, he was still great. A lot of old Disney classics, like Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Nightmare before Christmas made appearances, and it was all great. The game play was good too, I'm glad they didn't do the usual final fantasy like battle sequences; I hate them greatly, for they take up time of play and you get attacked practically every 5 seconds, or once an hour when you need to be attacked, very bad system if you ask me. But here it was all great. Some battles are challenging, like Kurt Zisa, took me 5 tries to figure out that summoning Tinker Bell was my only chance, and good god did it help. Sephiroth was a killer, I've tried x amount of times, and he's just too hard to kill, every time I got him to pink he started using sin harvest, very VERY big mistake in the game, it's hard to get away from that attack, none the less, people have beaten him, which means it's possible, and that makes the game great. If I spent a little more time on it, I would beat him too. The ending really got us, it was a cliff hanger like no other, but keeping us waiting, hoping for a sequel.
I loved every second played of this game, if Final Mix was available, I would be all over it as well. The ending once again, was a twist, no one was expecting that. The fact that Kairi and Sora were separated made a lot of people angry, but that only shows that you guys know nothing about square and final fantasy, ff series doesn't have happy ending, be happy that Sora or Kairi didn't die at the end, that is what happened to main character in Spirits Within, and I appreciate that, it shows that not always happy ending apply. One of the main problems I had was killing Ursula, she was one tough cookie, the big one that is, I finally figured out a way to beat her, just swim around and try to not get hit, and wait for your companions to kill her until she has 1 hp left (you have to deliver the final blow on all bosses). Overall this game is beauty at its best that you can control with your ps2, and don't be surprised if Kingdom Hearts comes around. Or KH3, 4, and 5 for that matter, square has a neck for sequels. This game definitely gets 9.9/10, only because there was slightness I didn't enjoy. I recommend to all, young, old, stupid, smart, American, not American. Enjoy :p *runs off to get band aids for his fingers from typing so much*
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
fantastic, yet lacking
I like many other rabid fans, have been waiting for this movie for a long long long time, I even got my tickets a week before the movie came out, I can clearly say I got my money's worth, and I'd see it again any time if I don't directly have to pay. I loved the effects, they were incredible, just wow. The plot however was somewhat missing, but I have serious hopes that the third movie will make up for that. The rave scene was totally unnecessary; we did not need to see Keanu Reeves' ass. The whole scene had nothing to do with the movie. The action was of course superb. Keanu once again showed little emotion, and trinity didn't look nearly as good this time as in the first movie, she slightly looked like an old lady. Overall the movie succeeded in its original purpose. mad special effects, and I like it mostly for that, but it fail in plot and characters. 7/10
Key: The Metal Idol (1994)
A true masterpiece
About 3-4 years ago, I've fallen for a new genre of cartoons, the anime, it automatically caught my eye. 2 years ago I stumbled upon this series, only 3rd eppy was in, so I rented to see how it was, it was the cover that really made me want to see it, the second the credits started rolling, I was in love with this series. They used the old story of Pinocchio as the plot; they succeeded greatly in the remake of the old fairy tale. The beautiful character design, the amazing art, the deep plot that makes you beg for more, and the mystery so deep you will have to watch it again and again to understand it. This kind of quality I have never seen in anime, it's truly magnificent. It has nudity in about every episode, some violence, and blood, it's not all too bad though, and a 10y/o could watch it. It is a must see series, regardless of age, and the fact that it's an anime (and I know how many Americans hate anime, think it's stupid, and pointless). I strongly recommend this series to all. 13.5 stars out of 10 :p
